PC Version Depth of Field?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 3:48 am

Oh, then I guess it is low after all if Pete said so. :blush2:

as you said PC is the smallest part of the fan base correct?

Why would he say something against the largest part of the fan-base 360/PS3 if such was not true?

~7 year old hardware will not perform anywhere near today's medium hardware the only thing the 360 and PS3 has decent in terms of hardware is CPU which 360 has tri core and PS3's devastates that but rarely utilized fully.

I hate DoF and Motion blur, both effects are terrible and I always turn them off. I especially hate motion blur, the mods that add motion blur always make the game look much worse to me and nauseating to play, even the much less obtrusive motion blur some game have already programmed in is annoying.

I can focus on something in the foreground or backround of the screen, I don't need the game to fake that(and thus prevent me from focusing on backround objects. Same with motion blur, games naturally blur anyway as I move the screen very fast, my eyes can't keep up.

As for distance views, a slight haze/fog is fine, but any kind of out of focus effect is not for me.

I am talking about the blur for far away objects.

I like it when far away mountains and trees are slightly blurred. It gives a 3d effects because things closer are in focus.

Things don't bur because they are farther away, they just get smaller and harder to resolve. It seems what you are describing is atmospheric haze, which varies depending on weather and environmental conditions or polution. Heat distortions on hot days can also limit distant viewing.

I like a slight DoF that masks jaggy distant models.

I also like a classy, per-object motion blur. See; Crysis, Metro 2033, and Battlefield 3. Full screen motion blur is a horrible console effect used to hide poor-quality textures.

Xbox will be about medium settings, they both use DX10. When the DX11 patch comes out for PC's, then you will see a massive improvement. Until then, Todd's initial statement is right.

As far as DoF, It isn't really there on XBOX. All things are in focus all the time, they called it micro and macro focus. Slight blurring here and there for things at the edge of rendering distance. That was my experience seeing the demo at Quakecon this year.

I doubt very much that the PC will have the lowest sales. The PS3 will likely have the lowest sales, the Pc will come in second andthe xbox will come in first. That's pretty much the story on most multi-plats.

If you are going to challenge this, bring mroe than VG charts numbers, BTW.

Lol, what? The xbox does not use DX 10. Don't know where you heard that.

And it's been REPEATEDLY said already that one of the devs point blank said that you CANNOT go lower than console settings on the PC, therefore low on PC = console.

Jeebus.

Also DX 11 will not bring "massive grpahics improvements". Bethesda did not include any of that API's graphics enhacing features. Instead it will just be used ot improve performance.

The HUGE difference between console and PC will come from:

- 1080p + resolutions
- Higher resolution TExtures
- Proper AA and AF
- Larger view distance - object fade, level of detail.
- 60+ FPS

I really don't care for DoF and usually turn it off because it is a big load on the GPU.

Just adding that I believe Pete over Todd. Pete's info has historically been true more often than Todd's.

Haters gonna hate. Don't like it? Stop playing on console.

Stop playing on console. Really? Are you going to give me money to get a new gaming computer? Eh? What? Ah, didn't think so. Why PC users feel the need to brag all the time or belittle console users is beyond me.

I'll stick to my humble and inferior console.

I really hope Depth of Field isn't in Skyrim... why would I want to decrease the quality of graphics outside a tiny radius in the center of my screen?
I like being able to actually see what I'm looking at, instead of seeing just a blur if it's not in the center of my screen.
