Very Early DLC idea

Post » Thu Jan 06, 2011 11:46 am

I know it's a bit early for talk of DLC but I just had an idea and I cannot save it for later!

Vault 157 (completely made up for now of course)
A vault located in Vancouver, Washington designed to be a breeding ground for an endangered animal to be voted by the population of people in the vault, the black-footed ferret was chosen. After years of living with minor radiation the humans finally snapped and left, the ferrets remaining seemingly unchanged by the mutations. after the years these ferrets were left alone they began to form a semi-sentient society within the now humanless vault. this Vault was made larger than usual to support humans and ferrets, though it is now overrun with super-intelligent Ferrets who have learned by accessing terminals, much like Fawkes. These ferrets live much longer than normal ones before the war and are slightly larger with more articulate hands. This vault spans the entire underground of the town while nothing but a Raider camp makes up the above-ground section.

The Courier, hero of New Vegas, has been called to a nearby plateau. on top he finds a man who wants to take him to Lehighton, otherwise known as the Ferret Underground, in a shiny new Vertibird.

I do not have too many ideas for exclusive things for this but among them would be
-an exclusive follower (one of the ferrets with no more story behind him than this so far)
-ferret-developed weapons (mostly melee, made larger especially for you)

This will be open to more discussion and I will edit this a lot, I may have an impact on the future of this game (or not, but it's an adventure.)

Credit to http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showuser=597410 for the idea of placing this in Washington instead of Pennsylvania.

New Vegas is in Nevada, why would we go to Pensylvania?

I did say it was a very early DLC idea, didn't I?

why go anywhere? I didn't say it was set in stone, the vault can be wherever they want, this is just my idea.

Thats like saying why did we go to the Pitt

That's like 200 mile's from the DC right.

I'm not sure distance from las vegas to Pensylvania but if the lone wanderer can make it

i'm sure the courier can make that kind off a distance.

Correct me if im wrong though

If anything DLC should go back to areas from Fallout 1 and 2. A third trip to Mariposa with you having to blow it up (yet again) would be awesome.

Beastmaster, Ferrets, nice one.

I thought of this in an RP for fallout and I added more to it into what you see.

You went from Virginia to Pennsylvania through a train tunnel on a handcart. Pennsylvania is on the other side of the country from Nevada. A country full of mutants and raider. Corrected.

RocknRolla, please stop quoting long message, it stretches the page and is overall annoying...

who said Vertibirds wouldn't be accessible by somebody who would be willing to take the Courier to PA?
wait... that's good, that could be the way he gets there!

So, make it in Washington state or Oregon or Arizona (could give us a reason to go look at meteor crater). I loved to have a ferret follower. It should be a total stealth and thief skills type. Could hide in your back pack (assuming something like a back pack makes into the game) during fights.

I have to leave for now but I will check on this shortly and update the plan as often as possible!
This just might have a chance to grab the Developer's attention!

Pioneers did long treks, course not through irradiated countryside or being chased by deathclaws. But hey, they didn't have power armor and miniguns. I think people in the FO universe would travel -- Americans have "itchy", traveling feet.

I'm on a regular role of bursting bubbles tonight. Sorry lol

Ok this in distance wouldn't be possible. In short 200 miles is nothing compared to 2500 as is the approximate distance from this idea. Aside from that. Your idea actually already took place. But with the um....ah crud....the big lizard thinga ma bobs...ya know. the leap at you with the big claws and the "OY don't hurt me please mister big angry pissed off lizard stature !"

DEATHCLAWS ! thats what they are =)

Yeah anyway. They held a vault to thmselves and you could even do stuff for them like help them stay safe etc. Think that was part 2.

Now that i know the distance i highly doubt it would be possible.

But not impossible.

Yes, I do want to dismember mutated ferrets. And the new follower thing is cool, but i hate followers, they screw EVERYTHING up.

@Tieche and WackaMacka: the location has been changed to Vancouver, Washington.
@Camoufrage: this would be a stealth/melee based follower you know.

Reno, Nevada.

Hurp durp.

Anyway, no offense to the OP but this whole idea is pretty juvenile... Ferrets? Really? And ferret-made weapons?

Second, as someone already said there's already been something similar with deathclaws.

Third, (referencing the fact that the OP scolded someone for quoting a post) that was not a long post. It was 8 lines. Get a bigger screen, this is 2010.

Fourth, if the developers were going to bother with more DLCs that send you out-of-state, as it were, why not go somewhere.. I don't know.. interesting. Might be fun to go to California or Oregon. Could even visit Vault 13. Something to tie the newest Fallout title into the first 2 (which I almost guarantee is going to happen, given the proximity of Vegas to southern Cali). Or any place with a football or baseball stadium. There are interesting possibilities with that, as well. Not randomly go to Washington to see some frickin' Ferrets. The only reason to go to Washington would be to visit Forks and stake some damn Vampires (Twilighters, feel free to rage).

And honestly, there's so much to do in Vegas (since from the teaser it looks like it's in pretty good shape), they might not even make us leave Nevada at all for most of the DLCs.

But this is Bethesda we're talking about. If you really want to see mutant ferrets so much, you'll probably be able to mod them in to your wee little heart's content.

Well, since we're in agreement...
I mean...The location for one...The DLC should at least be a state in distance away, no more (As much as I direly wanted the climix of Broken Steel to take place in the Statue of Liberty).
Two...Ferrets? I'm sorry, I don't want to be rude, but Ferrets? That's like something you'd read in a Penny Arcade comic.

But let's go with this idea...okay, here's a story for the DLC...

The Ferrets need help, a new breed of intelligent Radioactive Gecko's have banded together to wage war of the more priveleged furry critters. So they send out a frequency that's picked up by the Courier via his Pip Boy, only he doesn't understand the Ferrets language, but he investigates anyway, and he arrives and becomes indocturnated in Ferret society, indeed, once the Overlord Gecko lays dead, will be seen in the eyes of the Ferrets as a Ferret himself, even learning their language.

-The Ferret Tongue Perk: Confuse and baffle people by talking in Ferret Tongue (adds gibberish speach options)
-Dingo, the Mercenary Ferret: During the DLC, the Courier will help a Ferret named Dingo rescue his den brothers from enslavement from a Gecko camp, and will join forces with the Courier after the assault on the Overlord Gecko's lair. Dingo is skilled in Heavy Weapons, Lockpicking, and Explosives. And likes to chain smoke. And wears a necktie stolen from a drawer in the Vault as a Bandana.
-Special Weapon: The Ferinator! Launch Ferrety Wrath upon your foes as it fires REAL LIVE FERRETS! Armed with Knives and baseball bats!
