Very Hard with hardcoe

Post » Thu Dec 09, 2010 8:13 pm

I read a post by someone on another forum talking about him knowing a person who has the game already, and the guy said hardcoe mode is not available on the first playthrough; that you have to unlock it or something.

As I'm sure (and hope) this isn't true, I just had to confirm this with you guys.

It's not true...

Anywho don't like very hard though. Hard is good enough for me.

Alright good.

As for the topic on hand, I'm with most others above; I'll increase the difficulty is it doesn't mean enemies are bullet sponges; if so, I'll be playing on normal.

Found FO3's very hard difficulty was pretty ordinary. I would end up some what handi-capping my character with things like deliberate low barter skills and trying not to carry more than 10 stim packs with me to force a harder game. I found trying to live off of irradiated water (with the help of lead belly) and eating animals plus having to constantly scavenge to make enough caps made the game far more interesting in a survivalist sense.

Anyway, I'll be looking forward to the hard core settings and will give it a go on very hard, if it's like FO3 +hardcoe settings then I'm looking forward to the challenge :D

I will play hard core mode, but on normal difficulty setting. I hate bullet sponges. I find normal a good level for me.

Hard and hardcoe for the first play-though. I salute all those that do VH+H. :mohawk:

Salute away then! The harder the better imo.

I play on very hard just to level up fast, so I can start a new character.

I actually wish you leveled up slower on very hard... Would make the harder...

I'm going start with HC/Normal, though I may slide the difficulty towards hard or very hard later on, depending on how easy/difficult it is to obtain, carry and manage ammo...

I was just wondering, in the final day before Fallout: New Vegas releases, will anybody else be exploring the wastes on very hard with hardcoe mode on? I will be, and I am super excited for it. :gun:
My hats off to you for your bravery.. or is it just insanity? :nuke:

Normal + hardcoe.

My FO3 game was modded with Basic Needs/Real Injuries,
As well as food/drink changed not to heal, but would give rads (only to satisfy hunger requirement)
Stims heal over time and can not heal crippled limbs etc
Also added weight to everything, and realistic weight carry modifications, making backpacks quite useful.

True, it makes the game much more challenging. But also much more rewarding IMHO, and how the game should have always been.

It may not be everyones cup of tea, but certainly is for me.
It really makes the Role Playing aspect of the game much more immersive.

One of the things I love about Bethesdas games. You can easily mod it to suit your own personal preference.

I haven't read anything yet to suggest the levelling is as fast as Fallout 3. Meaning if you're killing dudes on Normal you won't be, or probably shouldn't be anywhere near level 30 before you even get anywhere near the end. I'm definitely starting with hardcoe Mode on, but I'll be on Normal. If I find I'm levelling too quickly, or it's all too easy, I'll be nudging that slider up me thinks. :vaultboy:

Edit: I'll be keeping my Stim uses to a bare minumum as well, regardless of whether it's easy or not. That stat is gonna be below 20 when I reach the end, or I'll stand naked in a shop window on a busy high street.

Im doing N0ormal+hardcoe think ill have fun anyway then mybe after ill move on to a harder mode. That saying Very Hard+hardcoe will be over the top hard lol you would watse nearly all you ammo on one enemie and have to keep running back and forth to get more stimpacks and ammo after each fight thats if you even live to get more lol but good luck I will will most probably try it at a later date.

Probably not i've never liked the difficulty setting in bethesda games so i usually just leave it on normal.

hardcoe isnt a difficulty level. Its a mode ;)

Probably not. Shooting 3 magazines into an opponents head isnt hard, its just time consuming. I wish the difficulty options actually changed the games difficulty and not just change a multiplier to damage done and recieved.

Hello no.

If it is anything like Fallout 3, then Very Hard=bullet sponge enemies who can take multiple shotgun rounds to the head and deal a crapload of damage. With hardcoe, you are going to have to use ammo tactically. I do not want to waste all my ammo on one encounter.

Well, I will be,

I mean, not for the bullet sponging, but to prove my manliness..

And the bonus EXPERIENCE POINTS

Otherwise, have fun just leveling up the .... normal way

Playing on very hard only proves that you're patient, not manly.

Already completed FO3 with very hard etc. And hardcoe just improves the roleplaying mechanics (stimpaks doesn't heal crippled limbs, weighed ammo etc etc..)

So yes. Will play with very hard and hardcoe :)

agreed.

I just hope more difficulty means more enemies and NOT tougher enemies... it just breaks immersion sitting there shooting at the same guy in the face for a long while. (I'm sure they feel the same about me,.. )

if its more enemies, that'll actually turn it into a huge gameplay mechanic to create some interesting battles.
I remember mods on Oblivion that introduced a "Chance of More enemies" option. So you had to play smarter, and Fallout has many ways to play smarter, more so than Oblivion did anyhow. (More enemies? alright, FIREBALL! ha, I hit you all!... [censored], THEIR CHASING ME! and no frag mines to stop them :( )

When I played Fallout 3, I played it with a realism mod. This is what I wanted, but knew we probably wouldn't get from this hardcoe mode, but was in my mod:

A shot to the head = dead (race did apply, so supermutants took 2-3 depending on rank)

In the beginning of the game my char was HORRIBLE. I mean so bad that VATS did nothing for my ranged weapons outside of melee range, and I had to baseball bat enemies down (no VATS) for the first 5 or so levels. Quick-save was my friend.

At the end of the game I was pretty beastly, but the levels took FOREVER to gain. XP required went up exponentially. Seriously, I didn't hit level 30 til about 80% of all side quests were done, including DLC.
Equipment could be repaired using scrap metal if the item was metal of sorts. Though I guess they fixed that issue with repair kits.

SPECIAL stats where much harder on you. They did more, but also less at the same time. I guess you could say they worked exponentially as well.

That's all I can think of at the moment.
