Violence and Gore

I think dismemberment might be a bit much, and it definitely shouldn't have the sometimes ridiculous gore of FO, but cuts, slashes, bruises, blood, I'm all for that.

I don't mind it so long as it's not over the top. I don't want to see peoplel exploding unless you're using explosives. If I swing at someone with an axe and I hit their head/neck, I expect it to come off within the next three hits!

I'd like to be able to cut someone's arm off with a sword, and a little bit more blood. No corpse explosion perks.......well unless it's a spell maybe?

Well daggerfall was very gory. I mean bodies were covered in blood, there were crucified bodies in dungeons etc. I think it would really add to realism.

But really, why am I worried. If there won't be any gore, a mod will surely fix that.

I'd like to see some dismemberment, but more low key. Say, have to kill them with a power attack to do it, with physics kinda like Dark Messiah.

Limbs and heads should come off at random and with final blows and special moves. Unless you are using arrows, daggers, or maces. The game needs more gore than Oblivion for sure...

I'd definitely like to be able to chop limbs off. I think it would very much so add to the gameplay.

I don't really find the need for gore in the game to be honest.
Although I certainly wouldn't mind the option to have it, as long as its not overly easy to achieve dismemberment and not as ridiculous as Fallout 3.

swords are essentially giant knives
they are very violent weapons- as far as i understand, its usually limbs and blood all over the place
and if you're trying to avoid arms getting cut off and faces getting stabbed, then you're looking for tennis or racing

pretty sure elder scrolls prides itself on realism and tribute to knights and swords and all that great stuff, so we should expect something a bit more harsh
but i don't expect bethesda to include decapitations and limb removal
i have a sense of humor and i really appreciated it in fallout, but i dont play elder scrolls to have a laugh

i guess it would be pretty cool though, now that im thinking about it..

and of course there should be an option to turn it off

Gameplay? Don't you mean your inner sadist? :P That's the case for me, at least.

The Oblivion level of blood and gore is what Skyrim should have I think. I don't I want to see disememberment though, the TES series isn't that kind of game.

Yes I'd like gore and violence. Dismembering with swords and axes. Bashing skulls with blunt weapons. Swords have a small chance to crush a skull, axes have a much high chance, and blunt weapons have a good chance. However, no blunt weapon should be able to dismember a limb(technically same goes for daggers but that's not a big problem for me) Make gore a much rarer occurrence than in Fallout 3.

If we go in-depth maybe weight of a weapon could determine the likeliness of gore. Obviously a heavy 50lb hammer will do more damage than an 2lb one. That would also take care of the small problem of daggers and arrows sending arms and brain flying.

Gore while it doesn't do much for actual gameplay, is fun when one goes on a rampage. If there are body parts and blood strewn about then the player knows he was successful. Still though, if done properly, is a nice touch.

If you thought the gore of Fallout 3 DETRACTED from the game, then you're drawing away from the spirit of the franchise. Fallout has always been a gory, bloody game. For crying out loud, the VATS system allowed you to aim at your enemy's eyes and crotch! You could specifically kill little kids by taking out their knee caps with a hammer. So the fact that Bethesda cut BACK on the choices was a big deal. They had to include that or else it simply would not be fully Fallout.

I personally do not feel that the spirit of Elder Scrolls is excessive gore. It's focus is meant to be an epic fantasy - not a place for people to knock off heads and gorge themselves in blood and limbs. Then again, this is a look at the world of the Nords, and Nordic culture in the real world were very violent people, so exploring hacked limbs would be interesting. The trouble is that it'd need to be a guaranteed lethal hit - else you'd have the possibilities of NPCs walking around without their arms or legs, and that'd just get ridiculous.

i concur 100%
if it is put in anyway, please let there be a toggle switch, im not a fan of gore in games, and i like the elder scrolls right where it is on my fav. games list (dominating the top 5)

I don't mind an option for it, but if I can't turn it off I don't want it.

The same goes for nudity, which I actually do not mind. It doesn't need to be there, and if it's in it should be able to be turned off. Since Bethesda dislikes the idea of nudity in their games though, that is not a concern.

Note that this is different from mature themes. I do not mind darker themes or sixual themes (provided they aren't all encompassing). I just think if anything more graphic is involved there should be options.

There was gore in Oblivion? Did I miss something? I imagine a place that has seven foot Nords hitting each other with broadswords to be a pretty gorey place. Red blood on virgin snow.

I want the gore factor to be like Dark Messiah, so that your killing blow would sever a limb.

Last time, Beth went for a T rating, and it ended up getting an M rating anyway after release.

This time, I think they are just saying heck with it, and shooting for an M rating. But I don't expect Fallout style limb removal. Beth themselves said that Fallout's violence was very tongue-in-cheek. The Elder Scrolls is a bit more serious than that.

I would hope they make the martial combat more robust and add crippling/disabling effects to attacks before removing limbs.
