Voice acting!

How do you guys feel about the voice acting in this game? I myself feel it's very inconsistent some people are great such as Jarl Balgruff but Farengar is just bad...how do you guys feel?

Could be better, but could be so much worse for this type of game *cough* Two Worlds II *cough* Gothic.

It's definitely spotty, but for the most part it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't say anyone was particularly excellent, though. They seemed to squander Max von Sydow and Christopher Plummer.

With all that being said, Belethor's "Doooo come backkk" is a complete atrocity.

It was a much improvement from Oblivion, some of the VO reminded me of Resident Evil "Jill don't open that door". At least the beggars voices don't randomly change when speaking to them.

I think it's fine and dandy. However I'm sure at some point I'll get sick of the same voices, just like I did with other Bethesda games.

Well, I certainly couldn't have done it better, I keep telling myself. Some are, of course, better than others. Max von Sydow and Christopher Plummer are both quite good, as well as Joan Allen (though I don't much like her character). "Love" how the imperials sound American and the elves English. The most laughable voice has to be the Scandinavian guard - seriously, they must have hired a real Swede to do that terrible english accent, 'cause you just can't fake it.

(If you don't know which one it is - it's, for instance, the one that greets you when coming to Whiterun for the first time. "Halt! City's closed with the dragons about...")

They got it the right way round at least, with Elves being superior and all......

Before you start flaming that was a joke (kind of)

The only voice I consider outright bad is the guy that does Farengar. Sounds like a robot lol.

For sure but the main character's voice in Two Worlds 2 is very good and I'm pretty sure it's the same guy who does the voice to Adam Jensen in Deux EX HR.

It's a significant improvement over Oblivion. However....

It would have been better if each of your companions, house jarls, etc. had voice acting totally unique to them. Total immersion killer to have every other Nord women sound exactly like Mjoll, especially when they are both yapping at you at the same time! Really though its less about the sound of their voices and more about what's written and HOW it is being used for them to say. Too many characters have too few lines they are given to speak in the first place, they've no real personality because they aren't close to being believable as they spout the same two lines at you each moment you are within hearing distance.

In Skyrim, I became a big fan of Popeye V aka Popeye Vogelsang. He does a great job as a Nord voicing Argis The Bulwark, Farkas and others. In Fallout New Vegas, I became a big fan of Jason Marsden who voices Boone. He's also voicing in Skyrim as Sven, the Courier and others. Does anyone know who voices Lydia? Great voice and I'd like to know who it is. I'm happy with the voices in Skyrim, even the voice that sounds like Ahhnold. :D :tes:

It's perfectly fine for the most part.
A couple iffy ones like the aforementioned Farengar, but over all it's delicious.

However, the Belethor voice makes me want to shoot myself up the ass with an air rifle...

Oh, you've heard of Belethor? I work for him, at the general goods store.

The voice actor who voices Farengar and many other NPC's is just awful. No offence to him, but you can sorta tell English isn't his first language.

Some of it is absolutely fantastic (Balgruff- however you spell it-, the generic Nords- male and female- who have that vaguely Scandinavian accent). Of course, best in the game is Esbern (Max von Sydow... I mean, c'mon). Sheogorath, of course, is great too. Delphine, I guess, was played by a famous actress and is memorable. Paarthurnax is good, for a less humanoid voice (Paarthurnax, IMO, has the best dialogue in the game). Oh, and JARL ULFRIC has an AWESOME VOICE. Or, an Arngeir/Christopher Plumer.

Alright, I guess, are some of the less important characters- fine voices, but not memorable.

The only *bad* voices I could think of were Farengar (I excused it because it didn't reappear- at least not frequently) and... the children, maybe? Tullius took me a while to get used to, but I adjusted and ended up thinking he was well-acted.

Now, I didn't buy Oblivion, but I've played it and seen a fair amount of gameplay. The Emperor and Martin Septim (Sean Bean) were excellent, but it didn't seem like most of the rest of the "generic" characters were very good.

I'd rate Skyrim's voice acting pretty highly; there are a few "meh" characters (Farengar) but most (Arngeir, Ulfric, Esbern, Delphine, Guards, Balgruff) are excellent.

Nope, English IS his first language. Here's the guy:

But I do agree, he is bad in this.

Well-played, good sir.

I felt that most of the "villains" had generic, villain-y voices that I didn't really remember; I hardly remember Alduin's voice (well, Alduin at all, but that's because I fast-traveled and never did side quests on my main character... trying to re-experience the main quest line on a no-fast-travel, no-HUD alt). Molag Bal and most of the other Daedra (Sheogorath excepted, of course) have the generic "I'm a demon" voice.

That's a trait of many videogames and fiction. I do find that some pure-villains (Lich King, from WoW - Witch King/Nazgul, from LOTR, etc.) have memorable voices that fit the "pure evil" description while also being incredibly well-done. This tends not to matter for villains that are memorable in other ways (ex: The Balrog, from LOTR)... but it's kind of disappointing that I can't call to mind, say, Alduin's voice (and Alduin, while looking pretty cool, is ultimately "just another dragon" in my memory).

It's alright. The good voices make up for the ones I have a problem with. A few are just downright annoying, but I'm sure that's intended. Overall, a step up from Oblivion.
