Be warned - This DLC is a mess

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 7:41 am

^This exactly. Now it's time for me to go home and track down some straw so I can build my Apiary. Heck, I don't even have a bed yet in my small cottage. Just a chest. Mind you, I've started a new game after downloading all patches/updates/DLC/Add-ons, so that may be why I'm not having any difficulties as yet. But I'm going to re-play several of my chars. from the beginning anyway, as if they came into Skyrim for the first time with all this crazy stuff to do. I'll probably skip the MQ altogether, just live various different lifestyles in Skyrim.

That being said, sorry you're having trouble dude :(

The problems occur when you fully annex and furnish your house. The fact you've yet to get a bed means you haven't fully expanded your house, never mind fully furnished it. I never had a single problem before i fully furnished the entire house. Like i said, the freezing issues don't occur until you have a fully furnished mansion.

I've just built the Dawnstar house and that too is running without any issues whatsoever as i haven't turned it into a mansion or fully furnished it yet. No one is quite sure what's causing the freezing. It could be the greenhouse (fully furnished), the bard or the wall mounts.

Been some posts in other threads about greenhouse seems to be causing problems...save in between upgrades/add ons and see if you can isolate what's causing you the problems

One person not having an issue doesn't mean that the game is perfectly fine, you know. Don't be jumping on hardware yet - no developer is flawless, and that goes double for the developer of such an expansive game.

Half the complaints I've seen on here, I haven't had either, but I've had enough of the problems mentioned on the board to know that they're likely real.

My daughter's been playing almost nonstop (barring school and sleep) without any problems whatsoever, so, not just one person. I'll say the same thing I say to all XBox-ers. Make sure the unit is out in the open, sitting horizontally, in an air-conditioned room. If you haven't cleaned it in a while, get out the shop vac. Never jump, slam, bang, anything around the unit while it's spinning a disc. And never leave it on when you're not using it, especially not with a disc in it. May not be the HW, but those things I've said don't hurt as common practice in whether it is HW or not.

Only with the new xbox's though. If you have one of the older models keep it on it's side or it'll be really likely to ring your discs.

Edit - Wait, I got Horizontal and Vertical mixed up. He was right.

If you're getting a persistant bug, find the "Bugs" topic. And add it. Bethesda is undoubtedly had at work on patches, and I expect they spend lots of time in this forum.

I didn't have any of these problems. My biggest problem was that I wasn't buying the right bed/container setup to allow a character to adopt. Figured it out though.

My houses (Lakeview and... and... the one I can't spell up near Dawnstar) are just fine. The only "bug" I ran into was with Lakeview, over the Bedroom wing (exterior), I bought *one* bench and it came with a Snowberry bush but no planter - so the bush was just kinda hangin' there in the air. Fixed it by just buying the other benches.

Oh, and it's so nice to see that the "We're Just Beta Testers!!!" bandwagon hasn't crashed into something and exploded in flames yet. And by "so nice to see" I really mean: "too bad"

A lot of people think this sadly. I've had about 7 long term characters since release and on each one I've had bugs that I never experienced on any other character.

restarted the game and this time I'm not touching the greenhouse as that or the bard seems to be the things most people have in common when the houses continuously freeze.

Sorry but mine is working fine.

I'm actually really surprised by how much fun it is.

I love how you don't just instantly "Poof" have a house.

You've got to plan and build.

For the first time in a long time, my character just stripped their heavy armour off and changed into some recreational clothes and started building.

Pleasantly surprised and no regrets on purchasing this content.

Pretty much the same for me, apart from I can't buy land in Falkreath.

Ditto. At least 2 out of my 3 characters can't even bring up the topic of Falkreath's land with anyone. Extremely disappointing considering Falkreath is the only hold I wanted to have a house in anyway...

Haven't tried with my Stormcloak original character, but if it works for him because he sided wth them, that's just terrible design/glitching for a DLC. Bethesda knows people will be playing this with old character saves, so their testing should have at least covered characters that sided with the Imperials! If they can't patch it so I can actually use the missing 1/3 of my DLC, I will become very "unpleasant".

Some people run into glitches soon after a release; world ends, dreams are shattered, puppies slaughtered and kittens stomped.

most of the problems I have seen and have heard from are with people are are using a pre-existing save. I have done 3 new games and have ran into absolutely no issues with anything with Hearthfire yet.

Isn't that a problem though. Some people only have one character - and should it really get messed up with previous save games?

I've gotten freezes in Lakeview Manor before I fully furnished the house. I had it fully built up, but it was lacking about 70% of the potential furniture that you can get for it. When I leave the house, the game sometimes just freezes on the loading screen. I'm playing on a pre-existing character, though.

Also, one fairly minor glitch I've noticed is that I never seem to be able to get a second wall sconce to display in the basemant of that house. Leaves a corner of the room pretty dark. It's one of the sets of two sconces you can craft- only one appears.
