Be warned - This DLC is a mess

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 9:25 am

People unable to buy land deeds, houses (Lakeview freezes up within seconds each and every time i use it and seems to be a common problem) become unusable once fully kitted out, housecarls going missing, followers disappearing, upgrades reappearing as not purchased once purchased, stewards not upgrading house properly and adoptions seem to be hit n miss. This is also ignoring the display issue - the one where a 1 min task turns into a chore.

Now, don't get me wrong, the display issue has been around since the game was released, but if you're gonna make a DLC where displaying your items is done on a grand scale, at least make it more user friendly.

It's obvious Beth simply done what had to be done to get this out, which considering the houses (at least two of them) become unusable after awhile - the whole point to the DLC - it's a complete farce this was ever released in this state.

Glitches and bugs i can live with, but when i can't use an entire DLC, regardless of how much it cost, it kind of pisses me off that i parted with my cash.

If you're gonna use us as beta testers, Beth, at least have the decency to be upfront about it. After all, you need our custom more than we need your products.

Sorry but mine is working fine.

I'm actually really surprised by how much fun it is.

I love how you don't just instantly "Poof" have a house.

You've got to plan and build.

For the first time in a long time, my character just stripped their heavy armour off and changed into some recreational clothes and started building.

Pleasantly surprised and no regrets on purchasing this content.

Some people run into glitches soon after a release; world ends, dreams are shattered, puppies slaughtered and kittens stomped.

Have you fully extended and fully furnished your house? Mine worked perfectly, as did most peoples, until i had fully decked the house out. In fact, i was pleasantly surprised how smooth it was running. Now, though, i can't enter the house as it freezes within seconds when i do so.

Been working fine for me too, only bug I have encountered is with purchasing furnishing from the steward. I have to agree with the comment on the grab/drop placement issue. I would have thought they would have addressed this issue prior to this DLC release. Not sure which patch actually made it worse. Now things rotate upside down, lol.

With that said it is well worth the $5 to me. I am looking forward to incorporating this dlc in my next new playthrough as that is where it will add the most role playing value to me.

That's excactly how it worked for me as well. Was fine up until I only had basically the bear heads and stuff to put on walls and now it freezes every time I enter the house.

Mate, these are very common problems. Missing stewards i can live with, but there's absolutely nothing you can do when the game freezes.

I only ran into an issue where after i got the Falkreath house i could no longer use the drafting tables, most of the problems I have seen and have heard from are with people are are using a pre-existing save. I have done 3 new games and have ran into absolutely no issues with anything with Hearthfire yet.

Exactly how common though? I know my initial comment was throwaway and rude, so I'll try to be a little more helpful: have you tried deleting and redownloading?

I'm currently doing up the Dawnstar one as some people have stated that house is ok. Will also ditch the greenhouse and armoury this time around. Here's hoping this one pans out ok.

Or when you're glitched out of building a house. I'm essentially missing a full third of the content I paid for.

Oh I stomped those kittens alright! I stomped them good! But that was just for kicks my games 90% bug free.

Not sure what all these complains about bugs are though, mines fine at the mo minus the odd little thing. I still stand by that to many ppl must be rubbing faeces into there xbox either that or I've just had the most ridiculous luck from MW OB FO NV and SR I've put in like hmm let's think like 3000 plus hours and my games never made me grab a pitch fork and come looking for Bethesda employees...

Have you tried clearing your system cache and reinstalling the updates. I had some freezing issues but did this and it seems to have stopped for the most part.

Ah come on. I might be skeptical about how prolific these problems really are, but to say 'mines fine, everyone elses must be fine too' . Thats just bad form, no matter how funny the faeces comment was.

Haha no worries. I'm big enough and ugly enough to delve it out too, so it's only fair i take some back. I've began a new save, cleared the cache (both system and LB,RB and 'X' caches), deleted and redownloaded. Nowt works. Trying the dawnstar house now as that's meant to be the most stable out the 3.

Sounds like an Ozzy concert.

Maybe 40 odd years ago. Nowadays its more old bloke who physically ruined himself shuffling around the stage, still singing well (although understandably at a lower pitch) and hopefully deciding to not let his daughter jump all over his legacy in order to try and launch her career.

Hey, you know, could be worse. At least it's not entirely game breaking. And I'm sure they'll patch it. At least you don't like..go to load up a character after building a house with them and it says it can't load cause the file is corrupted or something.

Edit - That being said, the glitches and bugs to svck but well worth 5 dollars imo, and the glitches can't go too long without being fixed. Least not with how many people are reporting them.

Sorry yeah it was just a joke XD
I was denighing the problems just saying people need to forgive and forget. Bursting blood vessels won't help anyone...(unless it's kittens then stomp away lol)
I know it must be upsetting but ppl need to chill a little I'd care more about the bugs in beths games if I could name a game like tes that hasn't got it share of bugs.
All I was saying is ppl know the games prown to glitches, care should be taken to not strain the system, don't rush actions so they stack up and can't resolve in over properly, don't collect and half finish a bazillion quests, don't drop items and move items all over the place, put stuff in containers, back on bodys or sell what you don't want to keep, keep saves tidy and dont save over all the time, dont let bugs stack up try and reload and resolve them, clear your cache regularly so that the less you lag the game the less likly bugs will form. Obviously some are unavoidable, and they well be delt with by beths if and when they can be.
Sorry to anyone ones who took offence just try and look on the bright side and play the game as best you can with out straining it.

^This exactly. Now it's time for me to go home and track down some straw so I can build my Apiary. Heck, I don't even have a bed yet in my small cottage. Just a chest. Mind you, I've started a new game after downloading all patches/updates/DLC/Add-ons, so that may be why I'm not having any difficulties as yet. But I'm going to re-play several of my chars. from the beginning anyway, as if they came into Skyrim for the first time with all this crazy stuff to do. I'll probably skip the MQ altogether, just live various different lifestyles in Skyrim.

That being said, sorry you're having trouble dude :(

I've only had an adoption glitch which upsets me, but I'm getting ready to start a new account. As long as I don't have any glitches with that one, then I'm fine.
