weight loss

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 9:04 pm

i started working out last week and eating better and guess what
im down 15 pounds

anyone else doing this or just have lost weight in general

I lost 18lb between August and November last year, mainly by running, watching my diet and cutting down on booze(!), but since then I've put about half of that back on.

I find it pretty easy to lose weight - but even easier to put it on. :hehe:

I'm always around the 11 stone (151 pounds, I'm also 5"11 in height), which is pretty average for my age. Only I do bugger all in my life. I do no sports or anything remotely active (except walking to and from school, and to and from lunch). My eating habits is rather fussy, so I imagine that's why I don't put any weight on. Can't say I'm not happy with my weight, but I wish I ate properly.

It's pretty easy for me to say this, but I don't believe in diets. They are short term plans that will become redundant after a month or two of stopping them.

I'm not overweight but I've been trying to get in better shape for a while now. Eating healthy, which I don't have much trouble doing, is only half the battle. The other, unfortunately, is exercise, and that's a battle that I can hardly fight, let alone win. If I have something to do that doubles as exercise, no problem, but actual workout routines are not gonna happen. I need some sort of task to focus on, music or TV just doesn't cut it.

The only exception is running, so when it's a bit warmer I hope to get out and around the block a few times every now and then.

I find a workout partner usually helps if I'm going through one of those phases where I just don't want to.

I could honestly never let myself get to an obese point. I look at myself all the time and see what "could be" or "should be" even being as thin as I am. I'm too "aware" of my status to actually let myself get that way. Seriously, not a single cookie goes unpunished with me.
Just want to point out - you don't always have that choice. If you develop a thyroid problem or have to go on medications that cause you to gain weight or.. I don't know... get over the age of 30 and have a metabolic change, you won't have the choice of whether you gain weight or not. Not everyone is overweight because they just "let themselves go". I was well underweight (5'9 and staying between 115 and 120) for yeeeeeeeaarrrrss and I ate whatever I wanted. Then I had to start a certain medication and I passed the 30 year mark... I'm not 120lbs anymore and no matter how I eat or exercise, I can't get rid of the weight I've gained.

And EVERYONE is different. Some people can cut down on carbs and lose weight, some can do 5 small meals and lose, I use to just watch my satruated fat intake and kept my weight down. What works for one person isn't going to always work for the next.

Btw, for those trying to gain weight - eat donuts and cheese. (Not together though, ack.) I swear, when I tried to gain weight, that's worked for me.

Congrats! I try to diet but it is so hard for me to cut back on the food. I quit pop almost 3 months ago and lost about 15 pounds. I started to cut back on food but then a while later started eating the fast food and junk food again. Any tips for sticking to it?

Donuts and cheese? Sounds healthy

I also struggled with motivation to work out when I started about 4 weeks ago. Now I'm almost dependent on it, it's really nice to have a goal and just gradually work towards it every day. I'd recommend having a body ideal, or weight to work towards. I always hated the gym when I just went there aimlessly.

Not entirely true. Muscles help to keep things... "perkier". But yeah, it doesn't matter nearly as much if you're a girl.

lol I didn't say it was the *healthy* way to gain weight. ;) But I tried the healthy way of increasing my calories and decreasing my exercise and I found that I was actually sick of eating. (You'd be surprised how hard it is to eat 3000 to 3500 calories in a day when you eat only low fat options. Its a LOT of food.) So my doc told me to stop eating healthy until I gained the weight... oh, it worked alright. lol

If you exercise enough, you can eat fast food every single day.

However, I barely move around at all. And moving around isn't even close to exercising. So well, let's just say I'm not trying to lose weight. I'm very, very slowly gaining weight though.

I just gained around 30 pounds in a few months from drinking and eating copious amounts of lasagna I'm assuming. lol

Gonna start gettin rid of that pronto

Edit: also I remember when I first started working out and lost ten pounds in a week.. and I didn't weight a lot to begin with. I find it easy to watch what I eat.. but not so easy to get off my ass.

lol.. I went a little crazy and barely ate while working out two hours a day. Not the healthiest approach, but I like fast results ;)

the time in which you measure yourself can greatly effect your weight reading, if your exhausted and partially dehydrated from a sweaty workout then your measuring yourself at a malnourished state. the next week you measure your weight you'll notice you didn't "lose" as much because you might still be in a malnourished state

Wow good job! Although I've heard that losing more than 2 pounds a week can be bad for you...

I bought a treadmill a few weeks ago as part of my New Year's resolution to get in better shape. I've been using it 5 days a week but haven't lost a pound. I think part of my problem is that I'm not overweight to begin with, so I really need to be working out a lot more in order to lose any weight (although that's not my main goal). My diet's pretty healthy except for sugar....I just can't give that up.
If you haven't been exercising normally, when you first start you might gain muscle (even from doing cardio only), which could make you gain a little weight at first.
