Welcome to Las vegas sign

The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign was created in 1959, which is almost right before the divergence. It's also shown to be modified to replace "Las" with "New" in the marketing ad with the NCR Ranger in the front. But the question is, since the sign supposed to be at the south entrance of the strip, has it been replaced with this?

The real world sign hasn't been shown in any in-game screenshots other than one ad so is it possible that it won't appear in-game? I've always thought of the real world sign as a symbol of Las Vegas anytime you saw it on TV or something. Does New Vegas need the real world sign?

EDIT: I can only find an example of the modified real world sign ad in a gameinformer mag right now so I can't link it.

I looked it up on the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas and it doesnt say anything about the sign. I think it's just for title purposes and this is a retro futuristic game world so 'new' might just be infering the technological advances. But I'm pretty sure it's just because it sounds cooler than Fallout: Las Vegas. Maybe it has backing from the previous two titles though.

In some concept art I saw the old sign with new "new" letters replacing the lost "las" letters so it might be like that in game.

The E3 Booth had the fallout version of the 'Welcome' sign, so I assume it will look this way in-game.

It's pretty iconic, so I'd expect it to be in... But yeah, it's outside the city limits on the highway, not where the gates to the Strip likely are.

Iconic - that was the word I was looking for. Well I'm glad I'm wrong about its location but it's funny how there isn't at least a screenshot of it yet.

Well the E is on the original A of the Las Vegas sign, and since the E is of a bright yellow, the A could end up being more noticeable for some. Still, I like the style.

Oh I know, I noticed the E, just the A stands out a lot more in the lighting than the E. And I just found it funny with Dinky in the background and it [appearing to] spell out "Naw" like "gnaw".

I hope it's in.

As someone else said, it's a very iconic sign, and the Wikipedia article states it has been around since 1959, so it fits in with the period Obsidian are trying to mirror.

I can't remember the source, but I'm willing to put 5 NCR dollars on there being a sniper on the sign. I saw it somewhere.

It isn't in Las Vegas, thats for sure:

The sign is located in the median at 5100 Las Vegas Boulevard South, north of the historic stone pillars of the old McCarran Airport on the east side, and across from the Bali Hai Golf Club and the (closed) Klondike Hotel & Casino on the west side. Some consider the sign to be the official southern end of the Las Vegas Strip. The sign, like most of the strip, sits in the town of Paradise and is located roughly four miles south of the actual city limits of Las Vegas. (Such distinctions are usually ignored by both locals and tourists, who refer to the entire metro area as "Las Vegas".)

Chris (Obsidian): Vegas is Fallout Vegas, not real-world Vegas. While there are some hooks to the Vegas we know and love (Vegas Vic, Wayne Newton, the classic Vegas sign)

I could be wrong, but I could swear I saw it VERY briefly near that place outside the strip (Kind of like Freeside but a different district.)

I live in Las Vegas.

It's off Fremont St. Just a mile or so from the Strip proper.

If they show it in the Ad, it will likely be in the game. I'll also note that it's in the opening sequence as well. The shot in the add where the NCR ranger shoots the raider in the head with the AMR? Yeah, that's also in the opening movie.

I doubt they'd show an area and a sign that doesn't exist in the opening movie.
Remember in Fallout 3 the opening movie (and early ads) showed the washington monument. Yes, that was in the game in case you forgot.

It was in some bonus footage from PS3's "Qore".
