Werewolf: The Mists of Death - Day 7

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 9:33 pm

November 8th, 1850 - Continued

It may just be my imagination, but it seems the mists may be clearing a bit. If things were otherwise, I might consider that a sign of hope, but as it is now, not even a bit of sunshine could warm my heart. But let me not get ahead of myself.

We decided it would be most prudent, after the screams of last night, to search the saloon. The interior was much changed since the evening when we had played cards before this all started. All the lamps were out and the windows had been broken, allowing the mists to flow inside, which even the light of a burning torch did little to dispel. Several of the tables were toppled over, and there were broken bottles everywhere.

Bernard Black (Exorince) noticed a trail of blood droplets leading to the cellar. Desperately needing a clue of some sort, we all trooped down to see where the trail led. As we did, it occured to me that there was once a time that we would not all fit in such a small space, but the beasts have taken care of that difficulty for us. What we found when we had brought sufficient light into the cellar was a horrifying tableau. Painted on the ground was a large pentagram, a partly melted candle at each point, and in the center some knotted rope, frayed and bloody as if someone had tried desperately to escape its bonds. Certainly we have found the cause of those terrible screams of anguish we heard last night. It is a wonder that any mere mortal could have survived down there.

With that grisly scene fresh in our minds, we headed out to the tree, where Jim Jackson (I Do Not Know) was awaiting his fate. He struggled not as the noose was put around his neck, only smirked as if at the irony of this happenstance. The hangman about to be hanged, if he were to be believed. Jim did not need anyone to kick the stool for him, he jumped of his own accord. He hit the end of the rope so hard that his neck snapped immediately. The crowd gathered round waited with bated breath for some glimpse, some sign that we had chosen wisely. No sign, however, was given; Jim had not lied.

This turn of events is most dispiriting. With the wolves no doubt prepared to reduce our numbers further tonight, I fear we must catch one of these beasts tomorrow, or perish. The dark spectre of death hovers over all of us.

November 9th, 1850

Death visited us in the night again, as expected. This time, he reached out his long hand and snatched away Consuela Salvadore (Mr.E), who has been for us these past days a voice of reason. When she did not appear this morning, we went looking for her, and found her lying in her bed. She was arrayed peacefully, with her eyes closed and her hands clasped to her bosom, but when we came close we could see that she had been shot through the heart. A small cross was painted on her forehead with her own blood. On the floor under the bed we found a paper on which the words 'negro' and 'innocente' were scrawled. She must have written them very shortly before she died.

I have gathered some things together. I'm prepared if things go ill tonight. Someone must get word of what happened here to the outside world. The mists and what devils they contain be damned, I shall pass through them if I must. Here come the others, it is time to decide what to do.

Drop_Dead

Name: Sir Henry Chandler The III
Age: 35
Gender: Male

Occupation: Gentlemen and Entrepreneur
Possessions: A deck of cards, a Colt .45, some ammunition, and his trusty heirloom Chandler cane.
Personality: Witty, clever, and charming. He is an excellent card shark and rarely leaves the table, unless it is to become more well acquainted with one of his many lady friends. He tends to joke around when under extreme amounts of stress, and most people respect him for his ability to both win thousands of dollars in one game of cards, then joke about losing it all in one night and begin fresh once more.

History: Henry was born into nobility. His family name was known quite well throughout America, as mostly every heir to the Chandler throne was a politician of some sort. Thus, they had strong amounts of pull in the American government. Growing up, his parents tried to give Henry was their's could, or would, not. They gave him choice; He was free to do as he pleased, and thus, ended up the worst thing the family could every dream one of their own becoming; A slacker. Or, at least their terms. While Henry grew up, he sharpened his skills by challenging nearby noble boys to a game of gold fish; The winner earning the others toys. Fast forward about twenty five years later, and hes still doing the same thing. Only now, hes playing poker, and instead of toys, he earns himself a fair bit of coin and wench's as far as the eye can see.

Exorince

Name: Bernard Black
Age: 38
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Physical Description: 179cm with greasy black hair and a rather unpleasant permanent expression on his face. He's wearing dark trousers and a dirty old coat.
Occupation: Bookshop owner
Possessions: some money,a bag of tobacco, an old smoking pipe, the little book of calm and a few delicious coasters.
Personality: Grumpy and pessimistic, Bernard is rather misanthropic man who would like nothing more than to be left alone with his books. His neurotic behaviour and foul mood makes him come off as anti-social but in fact he really likes a lot of people. Like people who sell tobacco and alcohol.
History: Bernard grew up in England where he ran a very successful bookshop until he decided one day to take a vacation and he eventually ended up in America. Unsure how or why he was there he decided that it was too much work to go back to England so he wandered around until he accidentally stumbled into an abandoned building in Crayon. A few years have passed since then and Bernard is still not quite sure how he got there but he's very pleased that the local population has very little interest in books.

Gamgee

Name: Clyde Obannion
Age: 35
Gender: Male
Physical Description: 6 feet precisely. Ratty and starved looking Native American, though this belies his agility and precise blows.
Occupation: Refugee/Outlaw/Sharpshooter
Possessions: 1816 Musket, Colt Walker (US Army Revolver), broken minature dream catcher (slightly larger than a coin), and a self converted native american knife that can be used as a bayonett.
Personality: A loner by nature, he doesn't like to talk to people. He has a big problem with US law officials, doesn't trust them. Having to survive on his own and evade capture means he's a good thinker no matter what pressure.
History: In 1830 he was forced out of his home to be relocated to another reserve. Due to the political machinations of the US government to put pressure on their chief many of his people died because they weren't traded any food, medicine, or supplies they needed. The last of his family and particular village he decided to teach the US Inspectors a lesson when they arrived the next spring to see if they were going to sign the treaty. He set an ambush for the worker and his small retinue, claiming one of the muskets as his own. One of the soldiers survived to tell the tale, and from then on he's been a drifer avoiding the law. His travels took him south at the rumors of a war, he was hoping no one would notice him there. Or know who he is due to the distance, maybe work as a soldier for hire. A texas ranger recognized him from a really old out of date wanted poster, he killed the man and took his revolver. Disposing of the body and the poster, so far it's been years and no one is any the wiser. He did make some cash during the war as a mercenary, and now he was almost ready to leave and wander somewhere else. Residents around the town know him as the silent person who likes to keep trouble makers out of town, though it's only a matter of time until he's gone one day. He swears by his old musket, and given his impressive track record during the war his superiors couldn't care he used such an antiquated rifle design. Though some had suspicions of its illiegal aquisition.

Indicator

Name: Llewelyn Moreau
Age: 42
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Around 5’9” and quite skinny Llewelyn doesn’t stand out very much. His hair is beginning to grey and his clothing seems a bit dated but otherwise there is nothing terribly remarkable about him.
Occupation: Farmer
Possessions: His father’s bible and cross, a shovel he never seems to part with, some seeds in his pocket and a small amount of money.
Personality: Isolationist, Llewelyn does not work well with others. He has a short fuse and little patience for doing things any way other than his own. When interacting with others he does his best to keep communication to a minimum and quickly becomes chippy if forced to engage socially with others for extended periods of time.
History: The son of one of the Jesuit missionaries, Llewelyn never adapted well to his father’s life. He instead became a farmer and has spent most of his life in privacy. He doesn’t bother his fellow villagers and for the most part they afford him the same respect. It is whispered by some that he is a bit strange, as he has no family and any man so isolationist is bound to gather a few rumors in a village so small. He is also a bogey man figure to the few children of the village. If he is aware of the way the village sees him he is either good at pretending to be oblivious or doesn’t particularly care about it.

Xrayman

Name: Martin Westbrooke
Age: 49
Gender: Male

Occupation: Traveling salesman

Personality: Boisterous and somewhat lewd (what one would expect from a salesman), however mostly kind-hearted. He handles pressure and crowds well; as a salesman, he has become accustomed to dealing with large, frantic gatherings of people
History: As a child, Martin was fairly secluded. Due to the dangerous nature of the area in which he lived, his well-meaning (although overprotective) parents kept him under a watchful eye. However, for much of his childhood he wanted to be a gunslinger from the many stories that he had heard. As he grew up, he realized that not only was this very dangerous, though due to his stature he really couldn't have done it anyway. He soon became enraptured by the methods used by traveling salesman to sell their otherwise ineffective product, and after toiling for many weeks, he brewed what he deemed a fairly tasty beverage that he decided he could sell as a cure-all. He purchased horses and a covered wagon, and spent many years traveling. Prior to the events of this game, he was traveling through the desert when a rattlesnake startled his horses and threw him from his wagon. With nothing more than what he had on him (aside from a small canteen of water, which he soon finished), he wandered for many days until he stumbled across a small town called Crayton.

Wow, just wow. I can't believe I was wrong. I can't believe Jim wasn't a wolf. Someone's leading us onto people, and I just can't figure it out. But since I was wrong and there's no way I can prove me being innocent, I shall accept my fate. All I ask is you guys kill a wolf with me. Don't let my death be in vain. Does someone have a drink?

You'll get no satisfaction of taking an innocent with you. Time to die, Ellington.

"Negro innocente." My Spanish may be a bit rusty, but I think we should assume that Bernard Black isn't a wolf.

She has been protected by an angel for the last few nights. Yep, nobody protected her last night and we find her with a cross on her? Looks like Mr. Angel got converted. Charles is obviously (or was) an angel. He must be the final convert. That leaves us with the first convert and the final original.

Why search where a wolf tells us to; do you honestly think that we'll find anything there? The only person staying there is Dawson, and I'm almost positive that he's innocent. I suggest we try to search the Mission. We tried searching it once before, however couldn't get enough votes. Keep in mind that after it burned down, everybody who was originally in the Flophouse stayed in the Mission. This was the same night as the second conversion; the chances of either of the converts having stayed at the Flophouse/Mission is quite good, not to mention that there may be another original staying there who we aren't aware of. Additionally, if (God forgive us) Ellingtion actually is innocent, we'd have more evidence.

By the way Rusk, how can you be so sure that Consuela has been protected for many nights? We know she was saved on Day 5, however aside from the Angel's failure to protect anybody else, we have no way of knowing if he was only protecting her. Also keep in mind that Consuela was very religious; the cross on her head could have been due more to that irony than anything else.

Sir Henry Chandler The III

Henry has his hat hanging low, leaning against the front of the Saloon playing with his cards, seemingly frustrated

Fate.. Cruel, Cruel Fate..

He attempts to play with the cards once more, but they will not bend to his will

Curse you cards to damnation!

The cards scatter everywhere, leaving Henry's side to rejoin the wind. He sighs

I fear the time is upon us, my fellow gentlemen. Alexander, I hope your death will come swift and still if you are innocent, and long and painful if you are a traitorous wolf. If it turns out were wrong tonight, at least have comfort that your death will be the least painful; No telling what the wolf's have planned for the rest of us..

Henry sighs, watching his cards drift off in the wind

Please, make sure we get someone with me. I accept my fate, but please, someone get a wolf! If you guys don't I'm afraid you all might die. I wish you all good luck on finding the wolfs. You aren't going to get one tonight by killing me.

Wait, I have a case to put out there. Not to prove me being innocent, but to prove another guilty.

The man I'm accusing is Sam Rusk. Based on the evidence he seems like a wolf. Whether he's a convert or original I can't tell. Sam is religious, which can lead him to placing a cross on Consuela's body. May she rest in peace. He's violent which can lead him to getting out of hand. He has rope, how much we don't know. Which may have lead another wolf to get more rope. He has a bowie knife, which may have produced the wound on the victim earlier. I seem to have forgotten who that was, I'm sorry. He doesn't like taking orders according to his history. By his war crimes. Which may have lead to the uncoordinated attacks. During the war he was brutal and ruthless. He has a pistol, which he used during the war I presume. Which makes him good with it because he surivialed the war didn't he? Those are the points I bring up, and I'm sorry if you just throw them aside. I wish you all good luck and I'll be watching you from the afterlife.

Drinks whiskey and passes back to Aces Thanks for granting a innocent man's last wish.

Wow... you've managed to take traits from all four known wolves and throw them at me as if they all belong to the same wolf.

I formed a case against the wolf we caught and then voted for him first two days in a row. I could have easily switched my vote to Glenn and that would have saved a wolf. Yet, I remained firm against him. Thus, I cannot be an original. However, I will gladly refute your case point by point.

Sam is religious, which can lead him to placing a cross on Consuela's body.

I do not deny my religion. However, why would I do something so stupid and create evidence against myself? Think about. She was protected by an angel. Yet, where was the angel last night? She was the obvious main target, but the angel did not show. The reason is obvious, our angel is the convert and the cross was an attempt to repent and allow her poor soul to rest. Charles was an angel. Charles is now a wolf. The only other option is if the second angel is now a wolf, but he watched over me last night. Thus, he must still be innocent.

He's violent which can lead him to getting out of hand

Okay. Your point? The murder last night was rather merciful. The murder before that was quiet. The wolves in the failed attack did not even try to attack the angel. I would have fought the angel. The murder before that was done by Jebidiah.

He has rope, how much we don't know. Which may have lead another wolf to get more rope.

So did Jim. He was innocent. Me havin' rope hurts your case.

He has a bowie knife, which may have produced the wound on the victim earlier.

That was Jebidiah... the guy I went after for three days.

He doesn't like taking orders according to his history

We have yet to have a wolf that does not like orders. Though I have nothing against orders. My opposition to Mexican authority was that it was unjust. You could say that I dislike Mexicans because of that, but that would go against your theory that I killed the senorita. She died peacefully. I would have torn her to shreds.

By his war crimes. Which may have lead to the uncoordinated attacks

Huh? I participated in the war and therefore I cannot coordinate an attack? That makes no sense.

He has a pistol, which he used during the war I presume. Which makes him good with it because he surivialed the war didn't he?

You are right. I am good with a pistol... I am also good with one when I'm bein' shot at. Thus, I cannot be the original because he took two shots and still failed to land a kill. I would only need one. Two would be generous.

If you all are calling Charlies and I wolfs, then why aren't you trying for a double? Someone please explain that one to me? Getting two wolfs in one go would sound good to me. Yes, I just called myself a wolf, as there is no point to try and change your minds. But I warn you, when I hang from that rope, all you will see is a innocent man who accepted his fate and smiled on his way out.

Because all you have to do is remove your vote with a minute left and he will live. If enough people vote for Charles than I will add my vote to make it a double, but right now I'd rather have one confirmed wolf than attempt a double when I know both wolves can mess it up.

I just figured out another point against Charles: She died in her sleep. She must have felt safe when she went to bed and she knew she has an angel watching. Once she went to bed the angel turned into a wolf, shot her, and then did the cross. Charles has a history of religion, even without his angelic powers.

Rusk, why are you so sure that Charles is the angel in question? We know from Consuela that there are at least 2 angels, however you were extremely quick to jump on Charles prior to building your case against him, and seemed to ignore the fact that there is indeed at least one other angel. Why you jumped on Charles (and how you seem to know that he's an angel) escapes me. Additionally, Ellington was very quick to jump on Charles after you made the case against him. I highly doubt that they are both wolves; Ellington wouldn't be so selfish as to try to save his own skin at the cost of one of his comrades.

I suggest we look into Bernard Black. Consuela never said that he wasn't one of the angels, and she was under the impression that he was innocent. I don't know why it would have occurred to her to mention Black specifically in her note, however I would assume that she had written it because he was important to her (e.g. an angel). He then used that trust to betray her after he was converted.

I realize that the religion prospect doesn't apply to him, however it may be that the wolf (regardless of his own religious standing) painted the cross on Consuela to protect her; we know that she was religious, and the wolf may have regretted what he needed to do, so tried to ensure her safe passage.

I know the identity of the second angel. He has been outside my door during the last few nights.

I like your case against Black. I had not thought of that.

It's not that I don't trust you, but I find it a little hard to believe that the angel would make himself so obvious to you...especially considering he himself couldn't even be sure that the person he's protecting is innocent. Is there any way you can tell us a little more specifically (removing anything that might indicate who the angel is) about how you found out his identity?

However, you still haven't answered my question; how do you know that Charles is the first angel? I'm not doubting you, but in case someone said something I missed, I don't remember him ever being outed.

By the way, I still suggest we search the Mission. It's the best lead we have to go on at this point.
