Werewolf, Vampire, or Neither?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:29 am

I was thinking about joining the companions, but i really wan't to become a werewolf unless I have to. What are the pros and cons of become a werewolf. From what I've heard being a vampire isn't all the great, and I got the vampirism disease in oblivion and it was a pain in the ass. So what should I do?

Spoiler
You have to become a werewolf in order to progress, but you can cure yourself by bringing a head of a certain creature to a certain tomb. I don't want to completely spoil the ending by telling you exactly what to do.
And vampirism is not that good in my opinion.

Is the "Quest" to cure yourself really long and boring like the one to cure vampirism in Oblivion?

Eh.. Just stay as Werewolf. You will most likely never use your Wolf Form and you will have an immunity to diseases. Who cares about sleep bonuses... Only time I slept was for Dark Brotherhood to kidnap me. But then again, that's just me.

I'm more concerned about the afterlife thing.

Spoiler
It can be done simply and shortly, while doing the final quest, but if you complete that quest before curing yourself, you'll have to do a quest to help cure your friends before you can cure yourself. You might want to check the UESP for more info, I just ain't got the heart to post major spoilers here.

I'm more concerned about the afterlife thing.

I'm concerned because of the fact that Noctunal said I'm going to be her's. And the fact that Lucien mentions that I will serve Sithis like he does now. And the fact that I, being Dragonborn, have all rights to go to the Hall of Valor in the Nord's Land of the Dead. And the fact of being a Werewolf means Hircine can claim me.... Seriously, what's going to happen to me?

There isn't really a bad thing about it, except you don't get sleeping bonuses. That, and NPCs that see you transform will become hostile. (except for your spouse, other werewolves, and the DB members I think)

Actually, any NPCs who likes you enough wont attack you if they see you transform. Anyone if any of the guilds you are in will count. Almost anyone you done a quest for. (I transformed in Whiterun and the Companions, Grey-Manes, and few NPCs in town was helping me fight the Guards... )

werewolf is fairly optional, i don't think you have to be in werewolf state more than once or twice, plus it give disease immunity, the only down side is you lose sleep bonus

edit: optional in that you don't have to transform

You can hide from Hircine :)

Anyway, I would go with vampire if they added in vampire lord since I modeled my newest character after Marcus from Underworld Evolution (who is a Nord, as my semi-newest one was modelled after me, but being a Breton Dovahkiin is a little weird to me.) Werebear is the most devastating looking though. Hope they add that one too

Pretty much. I mean that is hardly a downside though

Well considering you put down the son of the most powerful being in Mundus (Akatosh's firstborn, Alduin), you will be able to take down a Daedric Prince no problem I think. If Hircine or Nocturnal come after you, you could probably rip them a new one. Plus Akatosh is the most powerful being in Mundus, so he will get the final say of what happens to his champion

I didn't know that, it's actually pretty awesome. I think I might start using Beast Form more now.

when you die, you will reload the most recent save spot. problem solved. and I can't remember the last time i died (I just do hircine's quest, and she loses her hold on my afterlife)

Hm... I personal would pick either Hircine's Realm or the Hall of Valor... Kinda depends.. Noctunal can go shoot herself in the knee. I never returned her skeleton key.

Remember that they have to see you. You turn into your wolf form somewhere else then go to them; they'll attack thinking you are just some random werewolf.

I think I'm just going to wait a while, see what happens, and then when I get bored and want to do something, i'll become a werewolf. If I get vampirism, then i'll change into a werewolf, but i have a neckless that gives me 100% disease immunity so that shouldn't happen anytime soon.

Werewolf:

Bad thing: Accidentally hitting the 'change into a werewolf' button when you actually meant to jump down the stairs into the market at Whiterun.

Good thing: Changing into the wolfman and chasing that little snot gobbler around Solitude who says to you "I thought adventurers were supposed to look tough" (okay, requires loading a save game, but it is sooooooo satisfying).

Being a werewolf was not at all my thing. I couldn't get cured fast enough. It was just a novelty that wore off very fast. Vamps on the other hand are a lot better to RP. Especially if you play at a Stage 4 all the time. No feeding until you get the Cannibal perk. Then feeding actually helps you instead of making you weaker.
