What (if any) hobbies do you have

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 5:36 pm

I was just wondering, what the fine folk here on the forum do for a pass time. The only thing I currently have is gaming on my PS3 or PC and was looking for something else to get into.

I was looking at getting a motorcycle, as the local shop has brand new Honda Rebel 250's for $2,600 out the door and $100 in store credit. Financing would be 3% and $80 monthly. Something I could ride to work and back and enjoy on nice days. I would need the gear but can finance that into the payment.

Anyway, I was hoping to find something besides gaming to get into (and maybe get my wife into it as well) that won't cost a lot.

If I can't find anything ill end up with a bike or a project car, but I am trying to avoid spending that kind of money as we just paid off all the debt we have besides the truck payment.

So, what do you all do for fun? Or as a pass time?

Thanks for posting!

Edit.
I would like to have a forge (like a black smith) but don't have the room or money.

I like reading, watching movies and hanging out with friends... so I guess that's it for hobbies. Don't really build bottled boats, toothpick buildings or anything.

I also practice Taekwondo Songahm, if sports count as hobbies  Brown belt here... three times a week, on average, keeps my time plenty occupied, summing up to schoolwork!

I enjoy gaming, painting, carving wood, hiking, fishing, gardening, cooking, baking, canning, picking berries, trap shooting, reading, building, and quilting. Just to name a few.

I used to be in the Air cadets. (they stopped doing fun stuff so I quit)
I am planning on learning the guitar. Just need to buy a book and a tuner.
VNs are awesome.
I did some hill walking with the cadets, really enjoyed it. Would do it again, and hopefully learn to ration water, I drank an unhealthy amount, atleast 6 litres...
I would do archery, but dont know where I can find a place around here.
Same as above, but sword fencing.

Edit: Oh and cooking, well learning to cook anyway. I only know a few things, so wont include it.

Some good ideas so far, I was looking at model cars, but I have limited room in my current house at this time. And my hand is not too steady when it comes to paint.
I really want to try and build or make things, or work on things. Thats why I was looking at a bike or project car.

I used to have a traditional bow, I enjoyed it but overall I got bored with it as the meets cost me $15 every Sunday plus the long drive.

Assuming you kknew the basics, and lived in rural areas. Why couldnt you jsut get a bow and some arrows, and make (buy if possible) a target. Saves $15 and a drive.

I paint and model Battletech miniatures...

While wargaming and PnP RPGs might be too close of "gaming", it is a lot of fun.

I could have, but at that time I was not married and living with mom and dad, no room for that sort of thing. But now if I bought a new bow I would have plenty of room to do so.
I just like shooting bullets more than shooting arrows, but arrows are cheaper.

That sounds fun, but no one in my area carries the miniatures or players. Me and my wife play MTG though at times.

I drink only the blood of my enemies!

And I like to make distubing noises with my guitar... It sounds like a cat being [censored].
I thought about trying to learn to play, but its not something my wife and I could do together and have room for it.

She could, but we just don;t have the room for it right now. Its a limited space issue. I only have three rooms in my current house and too much stuff already.

I sometimes participate in ritual black magick reluctantly with my brother, who, against my own advice, continues to pursue his hobby as a black magician.

I used to do the same thing. I also collected just about every board game, computer game and graphic novel based on Battletech that came out. I eventually stopped collecting when the return of the Clans came to a conclusion. I was a big Wolf Dragoons and Grey Death Legion fan. Then i stuck to the computer games like Ralph Reed's MechForce and Fasa's Mechwarrior series. Unfortunately i had to get rid of the minitures and boardgame related stuff since i moved into a community residency setting where there was no way all that stuff would fit in a studio apartment.

Current hobbies are-
Watching horror and sci-fi movies
Writing articles for a newsletter
Collecting used music and anything that catches my eye at Thrift stores
Collecting headphones
Collecting computer graphics from the internet from places like DeviantArt
Using mods and music to enhance my game playing on the computer
Collecting model figures based on horror movies and comic books. Pretty toned down collection since am trying to keep clutter down.
Cooking
Going to museums and social gatherings when am able to fight off my hermit mood
Listening to all sorts of different music almost constantly when am not playing games or watching movies or just plain busy.

My six year old son would then be the warboss. His hobby is thinking up crazy strategies that usually gets everyone killed.., and complaining that he wants more trukks.

I am Bat....man? Which imposter took my thunder this time round :shifty: :batman:
I chase the buses, usually around 7:30 - 7:40AM and 4:00 - 4:30PM, they never realise just staying still is so much easier and fun.
Besides work and during the little time I have I; game, eat, shower, talk to friends or strangers, watch movies from my childhood onwards (most recently trying to find the old video player to watch the first Pokemon movie and the old Die Hards)
I'm usually only split between 3, maybe four games at the moment because I've overplayed the rest and can't RP in games were dialogue is given to me already, those games are Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim and Minecraft - sometimes I pop in Fallout 1.
At the weekend I do the same but add in a night out on the booze for Saturday and Friday.

Don't get to see much of anyone these days though because of our different work schedules and times, I'd hate be working weekends.

Modern Warfare 3

Yeah, I have been getting back into that game lately myself. It seems they finally made Infection a real playlist, and it is a blast to play with friends.

I stopped playing it for a while, along with all the xbox games, during my run up to an exam. Went back to it on Sunday night there, 125ping - terrible connection and managed a 23 for 2 K/D spread, I do well with lack connections but can't with good ones it's beyond strange.

I've yet to play infection but I have tried Juggernaut in a 1v1 private match - oh the horror.

*I used to paint before getting into my gaming more, and before my brother put his boot through one of my finished canvas' - not picked up a brush since but have done little sketches and cartoons.
