So, what does everyone do with all their gold?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:04 am

Some good ideas in this thread.

I can't recall any (linear) RPG where I didn't have a ton of unused gold at the end of the game but, it didn't seem as noticeable as it does in the open world "no ending" of Skyrim.

I like the invest in a fort and/or rebuild Helgen idea.

Would be interesting to be able to start your own community with its own economy based on whatever the natural resources around the town might be.

I spend some on food, mead/wine and rooms in inns. I like to have one house for my characters, and when they're in other towns they'll just stay in inns.
I also spend it on training, soul gems, ingredients and general items, particularly ones with new enchantments on them for me to learn.
If you find you have too much gold, try restricting your looting. Recently I've started 'roleplaying' so I prevent myself from looting tons of armour and swords. There's no way my bosmer would be able to carry all of that, PLUS his usual equipment!

Good question. I love the whole fort idea, but what about something like Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, in which you could invest in the various factions. Thus, you would increase the presence of whichever factions you invest in. Buying out various businesses would be cool. What about the ability to form an actual following of people as opposed to single followers? Kinda like throw away weak followers who can create a distraction or hold up enemies so that the player can make an escape? Maybe I'm making too many references to Assassin's Creed, but I never see myself as having too much money in that game, so they obviously did something right.

Yeah there needs to be more options for higher level characters that's why I started this thread.

Would be cool to have the ability to sponsor guilds you join, especially the thieves guild. It's kinda ironic when you as the guild master walk The Ragged Flagon with quarter one million in your pocket and hear constant whining about not having money and having to take on jobs, especially from Vex.
The female beggar in Windhelm is pretty silly too. I must have given her at least 70 000 for pickpocket training and she is still homeless and begs for a single coin... She could have bought a palace for the money I gave her, or at least normal clothes... Why don't NPCs actually use the money we give them? It would be such a great feeling to see a beggar go buy some food, clothes or bed in the inn for the money you just gave them.

You have said a right word. I always thought about this too.

haven't done anything with mine yet. just save and plunder caves and what not lol

It seems buying a house + upgrades is the only thing worth using your gold cause everything else like cool enchanted stuff cost crazy amount of money and you'll likely to find something better looting

The same as always, bribed the big bad evil to postpone his world destruction plan a few hundred years

And if you think Skyrim gives you lots of money, i maxed out the counter yesterday in Mass Effect (1) Huh, should've tried hiring the Reapers as my own personal army :lmao:

The Skyrim economy seems to be tacked on rather than forming a part of the game world gold bars for instance are not even worth there weight in gold coin.

Well, i can guarantee you that i know beggars that are "rich" in real life and still continuing in their charity behavior  it's a life choice sometimes; or astuteness, which in fact would be even worse.

The game allows people to play the game how ever they want. My personal ruleset for this character is to never use any non-orc merchant, short of those that are quest essential... and yet his goal is to purchace and upgrade every house available to the player. I need to pinch every coin... and always on the look out for ways to get more. Right now, I'm furnishing my second house in Windhelm.

they should let us buy the next DLC for 100k gold. and the one after that for 200k gold.

That is the funniest idea I've heard on these forums

But really, you should be able to have huge parties with jarls and re-enact project X.

I remember a "homeless" woman who lived in the town I used to live in as a teenager, she was always sitting around, people giving her money and that, she never asked for the money but because the way she was dressed and was pretty depressed, people just threw coins at her feet as they walked by.

Turned out she was the wife of a very wealthy guy, but he died, and she just broke down and couldn't bare to live in that house anymore.
Tragic thing was, nobody really knew any of that til after she died and it was in the local papers. :/

Reverse pickpocket it on people. It's fun, at least more fun than giving a gold piece to one beggar per day.
