So, what does everyone do with all their gold?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 11:49 pm

It's pretty useless besides buying potions and all the homes/furnishing. If they got rid of fast travel maybe I would of been using the carriages. It's really irritating that gold is pretty much always the reward for any quest.

It's just sitting there...

Would be fun if we could invest in a Blacksmith, for example. Something akin to Fable 2.

Train train And train some more...in the upper levels it gets very expensive, it's a good way to burn some gold

I spend it on training/gearing out my followers with the best armor and enchants I can cook up.

When I've done that, I just buy and sell enchatned weapon/armors back to the blacksmith until I have only like 5k. Walking around with tens of thousands of Septims makes me feel uncomfortable.

I train like crazy beacause otherwise its pretty hard to get up to high levels especially if you have a focused build and theres nothing else to spend money on. I remember in morrowind blowing silly amounts of gold on enchantments but theres nothing like that in this game. I wouldn't mind being able to start a town or rebuild helgen and become the jarl being a DLC as a way to get rid of massive gold reserves.

I've been planning on turning one of my houses into a little fortknox, haven't tested it yet but if you drop 10k in gold on the floor or you house will it look like 10k in gold or just a silly little pile of gold?

be careful though, i had the prowlers profit perk, and thought it would be cool to create a pile of thousands of gems in the TG cistern. Turns out they glitched the whole cell and made it impossible to enter the TG again. Just saying...

Suddenly got an idea, if the Dev could make some gold sinking service for players.

For example, you can pay the jarl and build some building either to help the hold defense / honor yourself / show off your money / help the poor / improve the temple / improve guards equipment... you name it...

this do nothing to your questing, but it does contribute to your personality and reputation in game, it also help gold sinking...

Go on a massive killing spree that would result in more deaths in the civil war itself, then pay a fine and walk away

Hmmm, I wonder what 250,000 gold would look like, when 'dropped' on the floor of Breezehome.... hmmm.... that could take an awful lot of picking up.... nevermind.

I use it to buy potions and to train, and the rest of it just sits in my inventory.

I just throw it in the safe and leave it for future generations in my family.

but here is an idea for a gold sink:

My idea was for the dlc to offer us the ability to buy the forts and fix them up and turn them basically into your own little city, or a big castle house, or somewhere to put troops.

And then you could easily drop thousands into this just rebuilding it, fortifying the place, paying monthly for guards(could be imperials/legion/stormcloack/mages/thieves guild/DB/whoever)

I mean this could be cool for someone who likes the DB and wants to try to rebuild their numbers... starting a little safe haven for your new recruits to train.

Or you could hostmatches like in oblivion where you'd fight in the arena, except you'd pay for wolves/trolls/rabbits(LOL) etc.

And then you could do the same for any guild you wanted. I personally want to be a vigilant of stendar(DLC ??) and starting my own place for them. Then ya got the orc version, khajiit, argonian, elves, etc.

I personally would love to have this and then it could be attacked and partially or wholly destroyed if left unattended.

any opinions on this?

I like that rebuilding the forts idea. Since theres a ton of them. I remember that game jam vid where you were able to build your own house. That would of been a great use for gold.

sounds fun, i hope they include this in an expansion. maybe we get the chance to fix up helgan and the jarl puts us in charge, we get all sorts of options to work with that will allow us to make it home, then the rest of the expansion could be about cyrodill, since helgan is onthe way to cyrodill

Yeah, this is something they need to improve on. In all past TES games I've had too much gold just sitting around with nothing to spend it on.

If they eliminated fast travel, made it so we have to repair our equipment again and allowed us to own shops (Bookseller, Pawnbroker, Blacksmith/Armorer...) and train apprentices, I'd be happy.
