What exactly is this game about?

The best games are a seamless melding of genres. Games that seem difficult to shoe-horn into any existing structure. The description makes me think of Deus Ex, which was a FPSRPG Adventure immersive sim.

Sounds like Splinter Cell, but with a sand box feel to it?

In an Australian edition of GI, i remember them saying that their next game was to be a mixture of Deus Ex, Ultima Underworld and (i think) Arx Fatalis.

Never played any of these games so i'm not sure what to expect.

You'll have plenty to digest this month between the GI cover story and the online coverage they'll have.

I think you'll be impressed.
I'll be waiting for the mail to come then.

a quasi-linear game with open mission structure where you can step off the critical path to cook a rat over a barrel-fire, or find more information about the current situation, but not enough that you can just [censored] off and ignore the plot(s) forever, like you can in a Bethesda game. possibly hub-based, with a wide variety of sidequests, some or most of which will likely have consequences down the line.

probably mostly first-person, if not entirely.

I'm intrigued...but can't you at least specify the genre...?

" It's a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone."

the genre is....

Peaceful Assassination stealth Shooter Action RPG, or PASSARPG as I like to call it.

No-one has the balls to stray too far from straight and linear games.

I have to admit that i only look at the "Extra" games on this forum to see if somone is doing something different.
