What exactly is this game about?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 5:56 am

I have read this passage several times and I still have no idea what this game is about.

"Dishonored is the antithesis of a edge-of-your-seat roller-coaster ride. It's a game about assassination where you don't have to kill anyone. It's a game about infiltration where you can set up traps and slaughter the entire garrison of an aristocrat's mansion rather than sneak in. It's a game about brutal violence where you can slip in and out of a fortified barracks with nobody ever knowing you were there. It's a game about morality and player choice where the world you create is based on your actions, not navigating conversation trees.

Dishonored is a game we can't wait to tell you more about."

Kudos to Pete and the PR team for writing this tantalizing description, but it is so mysterious that I can't even figure out what genre the game is.

anyone else have a better understanding than me?

No idea, but the artwork is strange. For some reason it reminds me of a old batman anime show.

You'll have plenty to digest this month between the GI cover story and the online coverage they'll have.

I think you'll be impressed.

Leak it in spoilers! No one will ever find out! :whistling:

...But on a serious note (yeah, right), I think this game will be awesome, no matter what type of game it is, as Arkane always makes so atmospheric games! :)

I loved Arx Fatalis, I personally believe that it was robbed of its potential by all of the other high profile games released around the same time. Morrowind anyone?

They make decent games, I'll give this one a try. Hopefully it won't be a total piece of crap like the last game gamesas published though. *cough*Brink*cough*

I think this is in the genre more fitting for a gamesas Release than Brink was, so I got my hopes up. ;)

From what I've read, which is very little, the game has interested me. I want to know more about this whole "world based on your actions", as many games have promised this before but in my eyes, none have delivered it really well.

Such a vague description. . . I have no idea. But consider my interest piqued, Arkane.

A first-person - stealth shooter - sounds good to me.

Well from the first the part, were it says "you can assassinate someone without killing," probably means you can talk someone into killing them or you can use something but not in a normal means, also I have to say I been waiting for splinter cell type game and out of speculation it also seems it's may be a open world. cant wait to learn more about it

"immersive sim". that it'll be first-person and that there will be a strong focus on emergent gameplay are the only things we can reasonably assume with any degree of accuracy - everything else is up in the air.

anybody curious to know Arkane's stance on games in general and to sort of get a rough idea of what kind of things they like to see and try in games should check out http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/07/09/dark-futures-part-4-raphael-harvey-arkane/.
