What happened to the cool Nord Legionnaire?

What I hope is that there is no "good" and "bad" side.
I think that there isn't. Both sides seem to have their own degree of moral degeneracy.

You can choose to follow either him or Rolaf. Choosing Rolaf will cause you to fight Imperials while going with Hadvar, the loyalist Nord, will have you fighting Stormcloaks most likely. It's possible that the one you choose not to follow will die, can't know for certain yet. I'm thinking if you follow Hadvar you'll meet with General Tullius instead of Ulric.
is it really confirmed that we can chose sides in the beginning? or are people assuming.

The quest stated you must follow either Rolaf or Hadvar into the Keep. The first one being a Stormcloak, the second a Imperial Soldier

If you follow Rolaf, the Imperial Soldiers will attack you on sight, screaming "Stormcloaks, attack!"

Hmm I really hope that the Imperial guys are not evil, because I plan to join them and I always play a good guy.

Stormcloaks are rebels, which is cool, but they are focused on magic or atleast thats what I heard. I am not much in to magic stuff, so I don't think my place is with them. :)
