What Happened to this Forum?

And you're doubly right about the forum demographics. While the average gamer is older, they're certainly a sort of "silent majority."

That's true. Everyone I knew was really into gaming back in the day (I'm 44, fwiw) and many still are, but they're extremely reluctant to go online for some reason: a few are becoming active on the likes of Facebook but it's very unusual to see them on forums, even the people I know from the computing course I took at university. No idea why, I do try to get them involved now and again but they're stubborn buggers. I feel quite unusual amongst my peer group as I'm one of the few who's actually quite active online.

gamesas.com has some pretty intellectual discussions, I hear.
That tgl1992, she may be a good looking Israeli woman but he has made some interesting posts! :teehee:

I am not a Israeli woman, in case you took me seriously...

I remember your name popping up quite frequently prior to Skyrim's release. I don't frequent the Skyrim boards as much as I used to, I think I've mostly moved on to the CD.

I wonder what the forums were like back in the late 90s? I wonder what kind of dumb topics were circulating?
I guess you can say Skyrim factored to 95% of my 10k posts then. Not now, though.

Also, I think the forums pre-Oblivion was such a small community, that everyone knew each other and there was fun topics. One of the reasons I wish I was around during Morrowind's golden days :(

The general topics I see are:

EF topics (yes these are their own category)
'Terrible News' posts so everyone can reply "oh that's so terrible". Someone will eventually try to be edgy and post something against the grain 'for the good of humanity', 'they deserved it', etc..
Girl Threads (these will start when school starts)
"Official" threads which can sometimes contain some useful information (Mainly the reason why I still log on)
Opinion topics where there are only 2 distinct opinions, (Ex: Social Networking topic, Steam topic) so after the first 2 pages it's just everyone saying the same thing over and over

I feel like I am missing a final category but I can't put my finger on it.

I'm pretty sure the forums have always been this way for the last 6 years, you just notice trends more over that time. Biggest difference is most of the funny people have left [voluntarily or otherwise] over the years and so far it doesn't seem like they have been replaced by any new users.

I'm sorry TheRippaMan but unfortunately discussions about one's underwear and failed/failing relationships are all the rage these days. Then there's EpicFail  ....

To be fair, the Underwear thread was just a joke because of EF . But you are right about the relationship threads...

You are the new big members. 2006 seems like archeotech from a lost age to new people. What wonders there are to behold. So how does it feel to be an elf as opposed to the men of the forums? Having seen it change over countless years. Or not, in this case. Hahaha.

I'm not sure what to make of being an elf. I think Sten said something about excelling at poverty. I'm not quite that bad, but I excel at being unable to save.

I suspect one of the main problems is that there aren't enough topics about shoes.

Skyrim Age 2010+ Commen Men
Not sure if I should be considered from the Skyrim age since I joined before Skyrim, before the info leaks even!

Yeah, I don't think the Skyrim flooding started until early 2011. Around maybe January or February.

That too actually, Skyrim was announced 21 days before the 2011 year.

I demand a re-haul of these titles!
