I'm already a cranky, get off my lawn, "the old times were better in many ways," person, so I'm way ahead of schedule.

The older you get, the more you can laugh (or give a wry smile and nod sagely, it's nicer) at people who say 'hope I die before I get old'. Guess what? We know something you don't, life ...wait for it... can actually get loads better. The best bit, all that crap you worry about so much when you are young, it doesn't matter and it doesn't affect you anymore. Getting older might seem more restricting, but it's actually quite liberating. All that trying to be cool, wondering what people think of you, wanting to be popular. Try saying this instead, it will give a nasty old drop of perspective: 'I would rather die than get oldwiser'.

[@Pea, who cares if that's generic? Not kindly grandmas, that's for sure.]

Anyway, OT, the type of grandparent that can tire the kids out for you, because you are someone who is fun. That's all, and that's enough.

I take care of my health, so I'd like to remain healthy even at an old age. I'd like to be the kind of old person that can look back at his life with pride. I'd like to be independent too, both physically and emotionally. I don't want to be pushed around in a wheel chair or be a senile loon.

I guess I want to be the same as I am now, but just with a lot more experience under my belt. But mostly, I want to be able to tell myself, with conviction "I'm still the same man I was all those years ago, and I'm just as alive as I was back then."

I'm not becoming one of them cranky oldies, that's for sure. I hate how many old people believe it's their right to be rude to other people, and at the same time expect respect.

I'll probabably still be a gamer, on a PC. It'd be fun to boot up a TES from now and compare it to TES XV.

"It's my bloody right to be impolite, you impolite disrespectful youth". :lmao: That's what so awesome, like being a toddler all over again. I cannot count the number of old people I've seen cross verrrrrry slowly before my car, or that I've let pass before me in queues because they had few items to check, and who never gave me a single glance in return. Young people do give you a nod or say thank you much more, on average.

Haha, that's cool. I'd probably retain my current hobbies too.

"Grand pa, grand pa! Look, I'm finally riding a bike!"

"Shut up, I'm watching One Piece episode 456,326."

ha clearly you're not old. i've heard many old people say "svcks to get old" or "its tough to get old". many old people wish they can be young again as many old people suffer from some sort of age related pain or problems. there's a long list of ailments that generally only come with age and/or a life of unhealthy living.

i for one am dreading ever reaching old age, i suffer now from pains caused by a car accident and other crap in my life...the older i get the worse it gets so i know that unless theres some magical medical breakthroughs i will be a crippled miserable old man

old people who say old age is better then prime youth are fooling themselves to feel better about life. if i had a choice bewteen 21 or 65, it would be a no brainer and many would agree with me...just ask my 77 yr old grandfather who's been suffering in a hospital bed for the past 2 months

This thread reminded me of an interesting quote my father shared with me.

At 25, you worry what others think of you.

At 50, you no longer care what others think of you.

At 70, you realise they haven't been thinking of you at all.

It's only gross through a young person's eyes. Old folks feel differently about it I assure you so no worry.
For the record, I'm not bothered with the prospect of growing old. I was being deliberately facetious in my earlier comments, though you can be certain that I will enjoy my youth for as long as it lasts.

One also starts to realize that you never really knew anything. Like Hugh Laurie once said in an interview:

"My memory of how I was at the age of eighteen was that I knew absolutely everything there was to know. There were no subjects on which I didn't have a coherent and forceful opinion. And as the years go by, that has just fallen away. I feel like a baby now. I feel as if I have less and less technical expertise. I feel like I know nothing about anything. I suppose what's actually happening is that the arrogance of one's youth is just sort of disintegrating. And the truth is, I never knew anything."

So the moral of the story is that your fear of being ignored will finally be a confirmed reality by the time you're 70.

I hope to still be enjoying life, I don't want to sit around waiting to die (sad reality is that this is the case in many cases).

I don't want to be old period, 19 years is a long enough time to live. My childhood is so distant that the memories are no good, they practically belong to a different person, one who I am not. And to times that time by 3 or 4? No thanks. I don't know if I can put up with that much fight.

If I am still alive by that time, I'll probably still be playing video games and reading books. I'll be a recluse.

Play Video Games... or whatever they have been replaced with. By the time I'm a senior we will probably have something really cool that I cannot fathom. Like a mind-controlled Robot War League?

I agree. I feel the same already. I thought I knew everything when I was younger. At the ripe old age of 17 I realised I was wrong. And now the feeling grows every day.
