For me its Japanese just because it sounds really cool, and German because dad's family is originally from Germany. What about you?

Russian and German would be the most useful to learn for me.

And your avatar describes me in mornings perfectly :hehe:

Spanish and French, the two most useful languages after English (to me anyway). Also, Sindarin. :P

I am a Japanese man. (not really, I just want to learn Japanese) I know some, but as soon as I get my phone fixed/replaced I'm going to get an app and continue with it.

I also want to learn Thai, since I fight Muay Thai. I can count to ten in Thai, but don't know a lot else.

I also want to learn Arabic, since it's a language I was around when I was young but never learned to speak it.

Espanol. I never had any of it in school. Also some other languages, like Chinese, Korean, and German. Maybe French too.

Japanese or Arabic would be interesting to learn. I'm taking French in the fall so we'll see how that goes.

I'd like to learn some northern European languages: German because I have family from there, others like Swedish and the (notoriously impenetrable) Finnish because they're interesting; and some of the older languages of Britain such as Old English and Gaelic.

Shame I have absolutely no aptitude for languages whatsoever.

I'd like to learn Russian, and Arabic, and some more Chinese. Then some romanic language like Italian just to laugh at how easy it is in comparison.

I tend to interact with a lot of Germans online, so I'd like to learn that language one day.

Then you are what they call a [censored].

EDIT: It seems "w e e a b o o" is now considered a swear by the language filter on this forum. :/

German, because it sounds awesome, they're my neighbours and if I'll continue with a PhD it'll be very useful. I actually started learning German again about a month ago (got a few years of high school German, but I didn't learn much and forgot most of what I did pick up in the following years).

I'm playing Nehrim, reading Der kleine Hobbit and watching the German dubs of X-Men: the Animated Series and the first season of Lost. It's working well so far.

Spanish, because it's probably the next most common language here besides English so it would be useful. But I probably won't ever get around to it, because I can barely keep track of one language.

yes it is, so don't use it and don't bypass the auto-censor either.

I actually stopped learning Japanese because I was getting sick of people calling me that.

Japanese for the game shows and Mandarin because of all the Chinese tourists here, everywhere in the world there is a local who sepaks English, so I think it's only fair to try and learn enough to give directions. Probably should learn my Australian Aboriginal dialect as well, sadly many of them are dying out.

I'd like to polish my English, I still have to learn a lot, especially grammar. Besides that, I would like to learn Russian, it shouldn't be that hard considering that it's quite similar to my native language, Polish.

it's annoying when you can't say that you speak Japanese without people immediately assuming that you're one of those people who are obsessed with Japan, use Japanese slang irl and watch anime all day. <_<

I'm not one to complain about trivial things like this but let's face it, it's a rather offensive term these days. or at least it's often used as one.

You make it sound like watching anime all day is a bad thing.

Still, that description is fairly accurate for a pretty large part of European and American teenagers and young advlts that are learning Japanese, so you can't really blame them. Hadn't heard the term before though, censoring it seems a bit over the top to me.

I'd like to learn Russian. Just because it's badass. I don't have any practical uses for it. I just really like the way it sound, which is badass.

Hey, if you can speak Japanese and/or you have a legitimate interest in their culture, that's fine.

The, ahem, people I was talking about are those who have a weird infatuation with stereotypical Japanese interests and behavior. :)
