If we assume that the Imperials aren't perverts, I'd just like to point out that the Romans did use animal intestine for fortune-telling and, IIRC, weather forecasting. So maybe the soldier just wanted to know about the outcome of the war. Or if it's going to be sunny tomorrow. :P
