I only remember one truly insensitive thing I've said that I will never forget - and it taught me a big lesson. I said a racist word when I was in high school within earshot of one of the few people of that race in my almost all white high school. I was embarrassed beyond belief and it served me right. I was 16 at the time and should have known better. Looking back I can't even believe I said it even jokingly (never mind its tossed around among young guys of that race to each other).

I think the stupid thing I've ever said, and do it consitently is "I'm fine" oh no it's just a flesh wound I'm fine! it's okay I'm bleeding everywhere but I'm fine! You just ripped out my heart and asked how I am, no it's okay I'm fine!. Feh.
