This all depends on what the perks are/do. 15 less than utile perks are worse than 5 good ones, but sometimes quantity has a quality all its own. A bunch of small boost perks may need 15-20 per game to make a difference, while 5 really big boosting perks may be overpowering. For example: If all perks were like the skill boosting perks from FO3, you'd need a lot of them to make a major impact. But if all perks were like Grim Reaper's Sprint, all you'd need is one. So it really depends on the perk design and how they are balbancing them with other aspects of gameplay. Will perk be all combat focused or mostly tailored to help roleplayability? Maybe a mix of both? We'll really just have to wait and see since so few perks have been revealed.

I think they're cutting out those lousy +5 skill perks and just having better ones.

Since I am new to Fallout 3 GOTY I misread so many perks, I always thought that those "3 extra skill points per level" perks meant that I got 3 extra per level. I hope they coming out with better than those perks.

And I need to check that Bloody mess perk, if it shreds up super mutants then that is worth looking into. I also hope there is a "scrounger" perk because I am more of a energy weapon freak.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ0NRm7lSTk acts like this - you shoot them in the pinky and the whole body blows up. Good for those who like excessive and comical violence.

15 is more than enough. You finish Fallout 1 with like 5 perks.

bethesda brought the series back to life in a major way with FO3 and even though it had lots of flaws like too many skill points etc, it was still a much better game than fallout 1, and new vegas will prob be better than fallout 3 and fallout 4 will have improvements over FO3 and NV ,thats how i see the game going, but i wouldn't use fallout 1 as the Gold Standard. 5 perks is fine if there is only 10 or 15 to choose from, but there's gonna be 30 or 40 to choose from probably, so 5 would be kinda low, i think 15 is a good amount of perks, it just all depends how effective the perks are, they're gonna try to balance the game and hopefully it will be improved over FO3. but just because something was or wasn't in fallout 1 doesn't mean it should be exactly the same in new vegas, 5 perks sounds kinda low actually, i'm glad fallout 3 had more than 5 perks.

There's also going to be traits which provide a bonus to your character but almost always have a negative effect. There have been two perks revealed Comprehension is where you get an additonal skill point for every skill book you read. and Terrifying Presence where you can intimidate foes through dialogue; closing dialogue results in the foe fleeing for 5 seconds. and there are companion perks, such as Regular Maintenence but is only available to a specific character. Oh and by the way, every two levels you select a perk this time.

thats rubbish about the perk every 2 levels

In what way? Do you not like it? Did you find info that changes it?

I for one wish it went back to every three but two is in the middle so it's a compromis. I hope Skilled is back so I can make it every three :fallout:

it would be okay if the perks had much more effect instead of more health then it would be ok

I think that is the deal. Less perks but they do more. FO3 had way to many uselss perks mixed with super powered perks. The Original fallouts have a better character building system with perks every three levels so we don't become super human way to fast. New Vegas should be the good middle ground.

Wow, nice for resurrecting a dead thread. I am sure that if you lived in Morrowind the natives would take care of you

The perks are supposed to be more effective to make the choice important, and there won't be any more skill raising perks that add 5/10 points to a skill. I'm hoping to get stuff like Cyborg and Wired Reflexes back. Strong Back is a definite must have.
