What will be your moral stance?

Post » Mon May 07, 2012 12:48 am

I'd like to kind of, hopefully, get back to geeking out about the game before release instead of nitpicking things. On that note I'd like to start things off by asking what type of moral stance are you going to take in the game?

Are you going to be relentless and kill people just for stairing at your wrong? will you gamble? will you participate in bar fights?
Or are you going to join the military?

I know I want to join the dark brotherhood but I'm thinking I'll be sort of a neutral evil type of character. Not completely  where I will go around slaughting whole families for no reason but If someone steals from me, for instance, I will kill them.

Yeah...everyone has worries about a game they have for the most part been anticipating for years. Not a surprise. For instance I do not approve of how the racial abilities and skill bonuses do not accurately depict the culture or natural affinities each race is known for. Essentially they broke with lore a bit. Will it stop me from enjoying the game? Nope. Not one bit.

I will be for the most part a 'do what needs to be done' kind of guy. I will rise through the Dark Brotherhood and gut the organization from the inside in the name of the Morag Tong. I will join the Stormcloaks because the Imperials got their asses kicked and banned Talos worship.

I understand it has a lot of weight on it. When the game is released though...well...just watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nsKYkwcmwg.

So you will be, in a sense, completely neutral? I'm unsure what to really catagorize that. I guess you could be lawful evil since you are doing evil deeds. To rise through the dark brotherhood you will have to kill innocent people, especially if its in the name of the morag tong.

Once you destroy the dark brotherhood (which I am wholly against, FOR THE NIGHT MOTHER!   )
Will you continue killing innocent people?

OT, my first character will be a loner hunter, she will only kill in self defence, she will steal to survive and has no interest in the factions petty political squabbles.

Its like pre-wedding day in here. Relax. You have married the right game. :tes:

haha loved the anology you did :P I totally support your effort in keeping this place a bit more sane.

It might have been a good idea to have started your thread with just this, folk will pick on the worst points.

OT, my first character will be a loner hunter, she will only kill in self defence, she will steal to survive and has no interest in the factions petty political squabbles.

Yeah..your probably right. If people start being all picky about something I said I'll edit it.
I really just want to talk about things people are going to do in the game though.

Thats pretty cool, so will you have a negative disposition toward factions or just pretty much avoidance? What will you do in say this situation:
You are in a town to restock and an imperial guard catches you stealing. You run but are outnumbered in the woods. As you are fighting back the rebels (Or stormcloaks I believe they are called) come to aid you. They kill off all of the guards for you.

Would you do them something they asked in return? or is the motto to stay out of all faction related things in general?

Anyways after some thought I think I should probably be more lawful evil. I'd like to portray a kind of calculative character that only kills when he KNOWS he will get away with it. Thinks about every variable. Which killing someone over stealing my sword might kind of conflict with. I may just have to punch them in the face and plan a very long series of events that leads to that persons horrible end a year later.

I'd talk more about the game itself but I'm not much of playstyle speculator...even after I get the game I'm mostly a 'help people w/their game questions' sort.
But my in-game morals tend to initially be my own, I just can't help it, heh. So that might be considered to be somewhere between Chaotic Good & True Neutral. It isn't until later playthrus that I'll start straying from being "me" to explore the other content.

For some reason I always veer towards the same moral compass. It's heavily influenced by one of my favorite fantasy characters of all time: Raistlin Majure from the Dragon Lance novels. I always see my character as the mysterious robed figure that is surprisingly skilled and calculatingly evil.

Not the type of character that will stab you right when you push him over in a bar. More the type that will glance at you after you do and plot your death over a series of carefully placed events. He will be very touchy over his hand-crafted bows though. He is also more of a loner so there is a small chance I'll have any companions following me around and getting in the way.

I may follow a Rastlin type of path though and try to corrupt a good character/ bring him into the dark brotherhood or something.

I plan to be a true hero. Fighting for good for it's own sake. Whenever I have a choice to make I'll do what is morally right. Then for my next playthrough I'll probably just hack people up with a rusty battleaxe for no reason at all.

Stormcloaks. If the dragons are native to skyrim then I hope to get more fights with them.
With or against.

All those who 'nit pick' any of Bethesda's games should ask themselves "If Bethesda didn't exist, who else would bother to make these huge sprawling worlds where I can be who I want, do whatever I want and go anywhere I please?" Plus they should also try and remember just how hard it must be to check every part of such a huge game for glitches. Getting stuck between some rocks? Yes, we've all done that in a Beth game, but how hard would it be to eradicate every 'stuck' situation? The game would simply never launch because it would take years to check everything! Guy falling through a chair? Was it quest breaking? Did it cause a crash? Beth simply can't check every little thing in this type of 'open world' game as they can't possibly foresee what any one of us are going to do at any time can they?

Some gamers just want to nit pick for the sake of it in my humble opinion.

I wanted to change the title almost immediately after I posted... kind of realized how misleading and derailing it was a few minutes later.

Hopefully we can get some more interesting posts now.

Neutral good.

I don't think there will be any hard decisions in Skyrim at all. The hard decisions I had to make are in Witcher 2, where there is no clear-cut good or bad way. And even after finishing the game, I'm not sure what is the best way.

I agree. As a budding programmer and extremely small time game designer (only in spare time of course) I do have a very basic and shallow understanding of the scope and difficulty this game presents.

In fact just looking at one city itself is staggering. One HOUSE is staggering under this level of graphical detail, physics on all characters living there, agendas and radiant A.I. on each character, models on each item, dispositions and morals and preferences for each character, voice work for each character, interior house design,..there are just so many variables to any one thing.

Not only that but the seem to always impress and deliver. I've never been disappointed with a Bethesda game.

But anyways, what morals are you gonna adopt in game good friend?

I will be exploring all the varieties of evil on my first two characters. Outlawry, banditry, murder, theft, deceit, thirst for power, ambition, unpredictable bouts of violence and of course extortion.

One will be a orc using 2her maybe destro magic completely ruthless and power hungry. Another will be a human(nord?) thief/assasin/archer that is into more simple forms of outlawry but also a skilled manipulator.

Chaotic neutral in D&D terms, but borderline to chaotic good. Just like in real life.

Its more about how your character acts then deciding in the next few seconds entire arks. I don't mean to ask will your character beat the dragons or join them, I mean more like: you spot a man being robbed in the woods. You know that if you intervene this man will likely try to kill you (as well as whatever shady organization he may be affiliated with). At the very least he will mark you for death with his friends if you try to intervene. Do you not get involved? Do you kill the robber and then rob the man yourself? Do you rob the robber and save the man? Do you just kill the robber and walk away? Do you beat him with your fists into submission? Cast a charm spell to artificially convince him to go home? Cast a fury spell that has been infused with a strength enhancement on the peasant so that he has the will and ability to fight back?

What is your unique reaction to a specific in game event?
