What's with all of the hype and facination?

Believe it or not, some people don't judge a game from a miniscule amount of information and actually wait before judging it! Crazy, isn't it? Oh, a large number of those people also want the game to succeed. So strange.

This is not free for all pvp. You're not going to die the instant you spawn...

You will have open world pvp in the cyrodiil zone, and probably instances battlegrounds for pvp. I don't understand what the confusion is here. If you don't want to pvp don't enter cyrodiil and don't go into the instances. You will still have the rest of Tamriel to kill monsters, raid dungeons, etc. all the stuff that entails in pve.

Kudos to them. We'll just have to see won't we? One thing is for certain, I won't pre-order it. I have made that mistake too many times with games.

Indeed, some people also take into account their experience and current trends in the industry.

1. It is not fair to compare MMO game texture with Single-player game texture. The requirements for MMO with hundreds of people in the same screen is many many times higher. Even if they release an MMO with 4092x4092 textures, your computer can't handle it. Even if you have a 10K machine that can handle it, 99.9% of the other people don't.

2. There has never been an MMORPG with mods. Well except for private servers.

3. PVP is a valid end game activity. In fact I would say, the only valid end-game activity in most MMORPG because Boss Raids are mostly just fake difficulty or gear checks while (good) PVP takes skills.

There are valid reasons against the mechanics/gameplay/lore/appearance of TESO which remain unaddressed, but the ones listed by OP is simply not valid.

90% of their audience don't use mods.

90% of their audience don't use mods.

This is incorrect, because we know their audience are PC gamers. PC gamers do not suffer low textures, unfixed bugs and underwear.

So two thirds of their audience don't use mods. OP makes it sound like TESO won't be Elder Scrolls to him because of no mods or high res texture packs. I guess two thirds of their audience aren't play Elder Scrolls.

PvP is boring and mostly just a cluster****. Personally I'd prefer rich PvE endgame content. Yes, it is a level check and a gear check, but if you don't know what you're doing you won't succeed. The same can be said for PvP as well.

People who are scared about PvP are scared of change and just want Elder Scrolls to stay stuck in its stale single player form. Yawn.

I'm not sure if you're addressing me at all. The PvP for this game sounds exciting, I'm just not big on PvP personally.

I have addressed the OP's arguements and I agree that they are unreasonable.

That been said, 90% or even 66% is a gross over-estimate as TESO is targeted at PC gamers only.

Then again, PC gamers know that MMOs are almost always non-moddable except for maybe the UI.

Yes i agree with your view.

1) Done by a studio whom the fans had no contact with since 2007, with no other
projects done in the Elder Scrolls universe to show what they can provide for the franchise.
ESO was practically shoved in our faces basically saying "There, we're done with it whether you're happy or not"

2) Releasing yet another MMO into today's overly saturated MMO market, against the competition's more
highly anticipated and hyped names like GW2 and Blizzard's own Titan Project looming in the horizon

3) Releasing screenshots that look even worse then my modded Morrowind.

Its a recipe for disaster.
Im gonna sit here and see how badly its gonna crash and burn.

i wish you were wrong but i feel youre going to be right

This. If Zenimax Online had actually communicated with fans, even if it was just a little, I think the game would have been much better recieved. I mean, what's the worst that could happen? Another studio might bring out their own MMO to compete? What are the odds of that happening? ;)

You can't just do whatever the marketing department tells you and bring out a TES game that bears only a superficial resemblance to other games in the series and NOT expect a backlash.

Thats right, 90% of Skyrim players don't use mods because two thirds can't and a lot of people who play on PC don't use mods. I would say about 30% of PC players use any mods AT MOST. There are millions of PC Skyrim players and not nearly that many mod downloads (maybe that many because a lot of people download multiple mods). Nobody could come up with a proper mod for an MMO. How would it work? Everone on the server would have to be using the same mod, and as all mod users know, mods are often highly personal. Plus if there were mods half would be advlt only.

I personally am excited for TESO but am also prepared for a disaster/mediocre game. I think that if all goes well I should be able to play ESO as an Elder Scrolls game first and as an MMO second. I expect to be able to do everything I could in Morrowind but with friends.

Why Morrowind?

Not too many features to be unviable such as Daggerfall and not too many features cut to make it boring like Oblivion and Skyrim.
Its the perfect game, really.

Morrowind is highly overrated in many respects but there were some things about it that I liked better than Oblivion, no quest markers for example. However, alchemy was better in Oblivion than in Morrowind. Combining long and short blade into just blade made sense while getting rid of the enchanting skill really didn't.

No doubt you are right. What I stated was just my experience in playing MMO's and thus my opinion; good, bad or indifferent. Perhaps I should have just kept it to myself. My mistake.

Nah, the complaining would have just started earlier.

But they would have been able to adjust it. I mean, 6 years of communicating with fans and creating the best damn TES MMO they could, or 1 year of saying "here's what we've been making for the last 5 years! It's too late to change anything!"

I know which one I'd pick.
