What's with all of the hype and facination?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 11:22 pm

What is all this hype and fascination with and about Elder Scrolls Online anyway? What’s the big deal? Why do people PtP just to chase a flag in most MMO’s? Going from one map to another: Getting killed countless times at your spawning points, because some player wants to stake his or her points? How is ECO going to be any different? Are people going to PtP and have to pay extra to upgrade their swords, shields and armor: or, for certain spells if you are playing battlemage? I really don’t understand the fascination?

I love playing video games on PC where I can add mods to it, to my liking. How are you going to add mods to an MMO? You can’t as far as I know! And, judging from the screenshot that is available what about High resolution textures in the game? You can’t have that in an MMO either!? Moreover, what about character creation? So far it just doesn’t appeal to me at all.

Its just a matter of taste. Some people like it, and enjoy it. Some people dont.

There is no hype and fascination. Just a very poorly planned game. Pretty sure 90% of the people on here would agree

Some people like MMOs. And since it's and ES, it's even better. Not everyone likes adding mods to a game. A lot of people hate it.

Pretty sure that's not accurate. No where close to 90 %. A lot of people want this game to succeed, and if you guys don't like it, then don't stick around to watch.

Yes i agree with your view.

1) Done by a studio whom the fans had no contact with since 2007, with no other
projects done in the Elder Scrolls universe to show what they can provide for the franchise.
ESO was practically shoved in our faces basically saying "There, we're done with it whether you're happy or not"

2) Releasing yet another MMO into today's overly saturated MMO market, against the competition's more
highly anticipated and hyped names like GW2 and Blizzard's own Titan Project looming in the horizon

3) Releasing screenshots that look even worse then my modded Morrowind.

Its a recipe for disaster.
Im gonna sit here and see how badly its gonna crash and burn.

I don't get where people get this entitled mentality. It's not shoved in your faces, you don't have to play it or pay attention to it. Lol, modded Morrowind still isn't amazing, especially the character models.

I havent played much MMO's, but isnt being able to get killed at the very point you spawn not the definition of terrible game design?
What game does that?

I believe that WoW has that on servers where you spawn in a player versus player server.

This service is provided by other players who think it appropriate and fun (?) apparently.

I see.
Well, to me that doesnt make any sense.
How are you going to enjoy a game if you cant even play it because you die the moment you start?

Well I'm not an MMO aficionado - or even that much of a fan of what has become of most of them.

But I think it is that you could work on a character in a player versus environment server then port over. But I'm not certain.

Really only kids I've worked with play it - I don't get the whole noobs must die attitude. This was really worked over in the south park episode 'make love not warcraft' - you tube it.

True. So I was talking in other posts, it should be a moderated ROLE server to avoid those kind of people, and let the ones who want role play their characters enjoy doing it with other people.
Playing and TES game and reading someone telling "Die new player" would make me leave it, automatically.

You mean fan boys? I'm an Elder Scrolls fan but I don't care for a MMO, with an ES logo slapped on it or not.

Judging from the first screenshot I was immediately turned off by it. I won't PtP for some cartoon graphics and an ill designed character creator. I won't pay extra for better armor or weapons or magic spells either. Moreover, I am not one who likes to play in a certain faction like it has been described. I have been playing Skyrim for some time now and with each new game I still play as a female Nord, but that's just me and what I enjoy playing. Moreover, unlike some players I enjoy playing a female character who is running around Skyrim scantly clad and kicking butt. I am not going to get that in any kind of MMO.

really? one of your main gripes is that its not directed at perverts? ooook then.

Skyrim is still going to be around a long time with mods and they haven't even released there first dlc yet, keep playing it. Skyrim is meant for you so you can play alone, not everybody wants to see some guy playing as a nvde woman running around there game. There WILL be other TES games it'd make no sense for there not to be. I don't understand why everybody is having a fit about this just dont get on the forums? just dont look for every scrap of information you can get so you can complain some more. I followed Fable for so long I was so hyped and i personally thought it was total trash. Did i go on the forums and complain the whole way through the process of fable 3? No I did not i merely ignored it.

I hardly ever post on forums I just like to read for news on things I like, but on this forum it's almost impossible for me to find anything good about the game because its just full of whiners who feel like there entitled to exactly what they want. If this game is not for you then don't buy it, it's not even being made by bethesda so wait for the next TES. Honestly I would understand if it took time out of a new fallout and TES game but it doesn't there seperate teams so what is it to you? I will still buy this game and so will plenty others.

This is basically a rant, and i never rant. Im just generally annoyed at the people who come to a forum about a game they hardly know anything about just to be debbie downers and try and force there negative opinions on people who are actually looking forwards to the game. This is the one time i must say.. get a life.. seriously a game should never offend you, there easily avoidable theres not that much news about TESO unless you actively look it up, it definitely is not shoved in your face. Stop being miserable and whiney go look at things you like and just be happy.

Just so you understand --if you are capable-- I AM NOT A PERVERT. You are totally out of of line with your snide accusation and should be banned from this forum.

Not all people like mods.. I enjoy modding and spend 99% of my "gaming time" creating mods, but I never actually play a modded game, so it's non-inclusion in TESO does not bother me.

Also, just because you don't find it to your liking, many others might. MMOs serve well when it comes to attracting players who just want some digital entertainment they can enjoy with their friends. Not everyone likes to pretend they live in another world, etc etc

You are right of course. I used to play Battlefield 2142 and belonged to the West Coast Killaz clan. But I got tired of being killed every time I would respawn. That and having to run miles to get back into the game, because of being respawn too far back. It just got really old.

I love MMOs with a good design, a game that remember that a story is something that a lot of players want to see. a dynamic world that let player's action mean something.
I dont know how ESO will be but i'm hoping that it will not be kill 10 wolves in order to save the village the wolves are there doing nothing.

The main problem with an MMO based on a single player is that in most times after releasing an MMO the single player disappear, the best example is The warcraft universe after Blizzard released WoW warcraft RTS disappeared.
The warcraft series was very successful and Warcraft 3 was a brilliant game, WoW changed everything lore wise. a deep RTS became a very shallow MMO I hope it will not be the future of TES after the release of ESO.
