What would you call a character skilled in Alteration?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 9:39 am

A shaper? A modeler? I'm working on an alchemy mod and amongst other things I'm renaming the vanilla potions. Any ideas?

An abjurist. But a traditional abjurist would have some control over the planes too so it's a bit tricky typecasting in Skyrim.

An Alternator?

Abjurist sounds a bit too extreme to me. I'd go for Shaper but it sounds too mechanical.

Hmm. It is tricky! Alteration is about modifying the environment or your physical nature so anything that hints toward those characteristics. Shaper sounds OK to me, but it does hint at Dwemer Lore so maybe not? How about something quantum? Atomist or something like that?

Yeah that works, but what about the transmute spells in alteration? Won't it introduce confusion?

Hm. You're right. Does Shaper really sounds ok? If so, might be a decent solution.

A genius! I've yet to ever level Alteration higher then 30 or so. An Alternator sounds about right - if only because it made me giggle :D

It sounds OK to me and it is a valid synonym. How about Mutator?

Mutator reminds me of a bad B-movie from the 80's :D

Ok it's Shaper then.

 Yeah I started thinking along those lines right after I hit post. Mutator sounds like it belongs in Fallout.

Alteration: The School of Alteration involves the manipulation of the physical world and its natural properties.

Shaper would sound appropriate IMO.

Someone sad that no matter how skilled they are, they can't walk on water, lock, unlock, feather or burden anymore :(

Wasn't a major loss, but would have been nice to have the ability to walk on water brought back. After all, the Sea of Ghosts is mighty cold!
