What is your experience like? (buggy, bug-free, minor issues

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 10:52 am

Okay, we've all noticed that people are posting bugreports, the forums are ablaze, the world is keeling over..

And every now and then, folks post in "I'm perfectly fine".

Now, I do not know about you guys - maybe a topic titled 'crashing' is considered a decent overview - but I doubt it. The focus of this thread is to, basically, get a semi-decent overview on how the game is doing, and what are the sore areas - and for how large a part of the community they apply. Sure, initially this will be a non-applicable statistic for proper measures, but I do hope it picks up speed soon. I wouldn't have bothered making this, if, in fact, there was a viable alternative. There isn't.

So who knows, maybe for the majority of players, there is no end of the world, and the game is actually better than the current topics indicate? Or maybe it's even worse than it seems..

TL;DR: Please, tell us of your game experience so we can get an overview on how the game is doing on the community's systems.

lol was just about to post this thread. I haven't got the game so would like to know how bad it is or whether the people who suffer no problems aren't posting (why would they? They have nothing to complain about)

On 360, Ive been playing well over an hour or so, and only encountered a couple visual bugs(gecko went through a rock, animation hiccup while jumping)... but so far, runs almost exactly as FO3 does, which is a good thing... Im impressed so far and having fun.

Huge save game bugs on PC side, also, serious FPS drops during NPC dialogue.

Fixed the first answer's text.
By the way, I'm not putting up a "Don't have the game yet" option, as it wouldn't really say anything for this particular issue :) Do vote once you get the game, though.

I have been running on xbox for 12 hours. Some scorpians caught in the sand (and falling through the map after death) and a few stiff arms on my character. The biggest problem i have noticed is the lag in switching into VATS. Sometimes it goes directly to targeting and sometimes i get mauled. Saving frequently!

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but it doesnt seem like it is something that should happen.

i finished the stuff in the starting town. was killing some thugs in an area just outside of town when i found some paper that told me to go north or something. so i go north for about 5 minutes when i see a red blip on my compass. it's one of those mutant mole rat things so i kill it. almost imediately i get jumped by three guys who are trying to gun me down so i kill them too. no sooner had i killed the 3 randomly attacking dudes, i get a message saying i am now hated by the NCR faction. WTF?!

i was unaware that NCR was a group of such zealous enviromentalists. did they keep this mole rat as a pet? if so why was it a red blip on the compass? i find out later that this all took place near some mining complex and one of the guys had a unique name. the other two were simply "Quarry workers".

were these important NPCs for some NCR quest? am i now screwed? is there a way to fix it or should i reload my earlier save from about 2 hours ago?

forgot to mention im on PS3 if that matters.

besides that ive also gotten a gecko getting stuck in a boulder and clipping in and out of it.

I guess reloading would be safest - though it's hard to say without knowing the quests of the game. Maybe a misplaced faction assignment/hook.

I'm on PC and running what could be considered and archaic rig compared to most: Core2Duo @2.66, 4 Gig o' RAM, 9600 GSO (768Mb), 1900x1200 (26 incher). I have settings at high (what auto detect came up with, except resolution, I bumped that) and, knock on wood, I have only had one issue so far. When I am at any creation screen (fire, workbench, etc.) if the cursor gets anywhere near the ingredient name (that's on the required list) there is a seriously annoying high pitched squeal.

I expect to probably have to drop res of settings when things start to get hairy, but I am doing pretty good for now.

Only put 2 hours in (will put 6 more in when I get home). On first boot, when game got INTO actual world, NV app window came up on screen in maximized window (not fullscreen like it should be) and I could see my desktop background through it. Restarted game and got all the way in, fullscreen and played 2 hours before heading to work.

Specs:

Windows 7 Pro x64
2.67GHz i7920
12GB DDR3
BFG GTX285 OC 1GB
32" Sony KDL32EX400 1920x1080 LCD TV
Dual 1TB 7200RPM 32MB HDDs

Playing at High Settings and getting smooth 60FPS+ rates, even with lots of action (don't know actual FPS since I have vsync on)

Thanks for the thread. Games running well are probably underreported since those folks are less likely to be on the forums :D, but it's good to get a bit of perspective.

I think he meant, PS3 or Slim PS3, maybe he didn't know what to call the slim.

At least that is how I saw it because he says xbox slim elite something.

My game is freezing every 5 minutes and if I leave the disk in the 360 and power the system on it freezes automatically. Never had an issue with another game. Pretty upset and I hope it gets fixed right quick.

Ok, a couple more hours in and I just had a knightkin standing frozen. I walked up and punched him and he animated...and died shortly there after. Still really enjoying the game.

So far I've frozen six times. Three of them were in a row. I'm a huge Fallout fan, but I'm not going to put up with this. I've had enemies glitch into walls, seen them continue to run into rocks and walls, and now apparently I have to start completely over because of where my save is. I load it up, move an inch, and it freezes. I'll give it a couple more tries, then I'm getting another copy if it keeps it up. So far, I'm not impressed.

Save frequently is pretty much the best advice in this thread. I'm comparing the game to FO3, and to be frank, its falling short. On a PC. With a Nvidia card, I had to turn off the water multisampling thingie just to make the game playable in areas with more then four NPCs. Which is complete bull, because I have 1gig of video memory, along with 4 of ram, and 2.26ghz of processor power. FO3 ran great, Obsidian apparently didn't account for Nvidia cards.

Also, Ive had NUMEROUS glitches involving the AI. Stuff that is just wtf. Ive had an NCR guy perk up right after my conversation, run a good two miles into the desert, and then get decimated by a pack of geckos. Why was he leaving his post to chase after some random enemy two miles away? (He srsly ran from like, Primm, WAAAAAAY past good springs into the desert.) Then, I looked thru the gate into Primm, and two enemies ran thru a bus hull, and attacked. Fine, I can deal with that, THEN I killed one, and the other got stuck in his fleeing animation in the BUS. Two NCR troopers magically teleported on top of the bus, and killed him after about fifteen minutes of me exploring the rest of the town. (My bullets wouldn't effect the enemy for some reason. O_O)

Next, I go into Primm, and
Spoiler
the convict leader with the Flamer, puts his flamethrower AWAY, to attack me with a knife.

The game is even glitchier then FO3 on release. Its laughable really. I don't mean to be rude, but Obsidian pushed this out too fast.

*EDIT* Add my first crash to that list. Christ, did you guys even play it out side of interviews Obsidian?

It's all great so far on my PS3. The only thing I had a problem with was the Pre-order code for the Classic Pack not working but then it worked so that was fixed. No problems in gameplay to this point. I'm getting a Gecko hunting lesson..still very early. :)

EDITED: Now I'm running into more problem. Freezing, a quest-important body submerged into the road; that kind of stuff. I also tried modding my pre-order weapon and it messed up the game. I wish it had given an error message to me that this weapon is not mod-able.

2 hours, no crashes on PC: Phenom IIx3, GTX260, 4GB. Autodetect selected ultrahigh settings, but there has been some stutter so I think I'll try high settings.

And if we sum up the major and game-breaking issues, that makes close to two fifths of all players. With another two being minor bugginess.

Not looking so good, at the moment, to be honest.

I think the results will be skewed because those who are running smoothly are likely playing their games and not on this forum seeking help. :P
