What's your fastest Steam download?

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:23 am

Decided to make this thread after I picked my jaw up off of the ground...
I bought Dead Island a couple minutes ago and started downloading it while playing Warband. I minimize it to see I am downloading near 10(TEN)mb/s. Never, ever seen it that high.

Anyone else?

PS, this is on a college network too...

My home internet connection is throttled to 20 Mb/s, so mine are pretty consistently around 2.5 MB/s. 10 MB/s is pretty darn fast.

I don't think I've ever seen any files go higher than 2.8 MB/s or so. Usually it's around 1.5 - 2.5

~3.0MB/s is also the highest I've seen with 2.0-2.5MB/s being common.

God, where do you guys live to get such fast internet? I'm so damn jelly.

My PDR is only 690KB/S, which is the fastest I've ever had. Though I do live in a fairly rural area, so my options are pretty limited (between what I have now and Dish, but whatever Verizon offers is supposed to be moving out this way, so perhaps I'll look into that).

Wideband is available in my area but don't want to pay 99.99 a month for it..

Same here. The fastest I've seen is 400KB/s. :brokencomputer: :swear: AT&T and their refusal to upgrade the DSL lines in my area (while simultaneously holding a monopoly over high speed internet in the region)...

They are pretty much refusing to upgrade DSL everywhere, and are planning on pulling DSL offerings in places that have U-Verse.

You need that kind of speed with those 9GB patches.

Saw almost 900 KB/s yesterday. I didn't know data can be transfered that fast :P

New Vegas tried that one me. Stopping it and verifying the game cache reduced it to 300MB :hehe:

500 KB/s :brokencomputer:

Ditto, that's probably the fastest I've seen. (It's not terribly consistent, either)

Needless to say, the idea of downloading full PC games (not just indie stuff) isn't something I generally consider.

i get no more than 600 KB/s on a very good day when nobody else is using the internet. i am supposed to get 8 Mbits/sec, but it never happened... (for the less tech savvy- 8 Mbits/s = 1MByte/s)

Bit is lowercase
Eg. Mb

Byte -Uppercase
Eg. MB

NOW YOU KNOW!

Did you change your settings to connect with your closest server. There is a server in Pittsburgh, PA. The one in Washington DC is good.. OH! And there is a Comcast one now, hmm...

I probably top at around 1.2 to 1.5mbps with my 10mbps connection. Though when downloading multiple items it's a straightup pain because it splits my connection up which drops it to around 500 to 600 kbps per item. Think the fastest download I ever had was Borderlands at around 1.4mbps maybe 1.6 if I was lucky on that particular day. Tempted to call up Brighthouse and ask em to drop a 40mbps line since i'm making videos, but the price tag is a bit steep.

Ooh, nice tip. Yeah, I was set to Chicago. Guess I'll see how it goes next time I try something (got a Deus Ex code with my new GPU, so there's something I need to download. :D)
