What's Your Ideal Party Composition?

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:10 am

Using the classes that have been in prior TES games (let's leave it at hard classes, no customizing them), create your ideal party composition that is comprised of say... six characters and why.

Acrobat
Witchhunter
Healer
Nightblade
Assassin
Spellsword

While I have little in the way of ranged attacks, aside from what the Witchhunter and Spellsword can do, and have no real "tank," I like to comprise my party to kill extremely quickly, hitting from all possible angles at every possible chance, hence why I have the Acrobat, Nightblade and Assassin.

What's your ideal group for the upcoming MMO, providing it keeps these classes.

Healer. (keeps people alive and unhindered)

Or

I don't like such big groups, to be honest. It's more difficult to keep track of everything, and you are bound to fall prey to the bystander-effect, where you as an individual just aren't that important because somebody else can do your job just as well. So you don't feel obliged to act when you could, and it just becomes a boring hack and slay fest.

So, ideally, I'd have a Healer and a Rogue, and maybe a third to protect the healer - doesn't really matter what class.

If I had to pick 6, I'd try to keep it as diverse as possible to let everyone have a role.
Healer, Rogue, Archer, Bard, Sorcerer, Knight. Something like that.

Warrior
Warrior
Warrior
Warrior
Warrior
Healer

The warriors have their own choice of subbing archer or being a Spellsword. This is simply to be effective at long range. The party works most effectively when everyone charges into the battle, with secondary concern of protecting the healer.

Only substitution I would consider is one warrior for a thief - just to get past locked doors if they were an issue.

Nightblade - Provide burst DPS/Control, brings utility to the party by way of sneak/security. Allowing them to progress through locked doors/traps.
Spellsword - Provide a steady DPS with high bursts spread throughout. Can kite enemies, or pull back into ranged if needed.
Warrior - Able to negate damage, and provide a healthy amount of DPS
Witch Hunter - DPS/Light healing/control
or Mage - Ranged DPS, provides buffs and a moderate amount of healing.
Necromance - Provides the main "Tank" of the party via minions, and locks down enemies with conditions. Can also heal the party via life-drain.

Mix of Nightblades, Thieves, Assassins, Sneaky Archers. Nothing beats the thrill of Stealth Wars.

In PvP, I can see this party working wonders if they flank around to the enemy siege points. They might do well against unsuspecting or weaker foes, but wouldn't stand up to a straight smash-n-bash melee squad.

"Let's run...hide...the Highland Way."

"No...we'll make spears...lot's of 'em"

a Nord Barbarian
a Dunmer Barbarian
and an Argonian Barbarian.

The first shouts DEATH OR SOVNGARDE!
The second one shouts FOR NEREVAR!
The third one shouts HIST GUIDE ME!

and then they all die gloriously because they have no Healer.

As a DAoC vet, I used to run in a stealth only group. It was quite fun. In fact, there was normal rvr/pvp and then there was stealth rvr/pvp. It was like a separate "war" compared with the normal grouping, thus why I call it Stealth Wars. (Incidently, it was so fun that I actually made an Oblivion mod to try and mimic it.) We'd have whole groups solely for the purpose of hunting other stealthers and vice versa against us.

Each sorc specializes in 1 magic school plus conjuration. Let the undead/daedra tank until they die, then summon another.

Would be interesting to see teams made to assault forts and the like. Something akin to units. Stealth unit will go around the back looking for secret entrances. Siege units will unleash hell in one area only primarily as a distraction,(let us minimize what we will need to rebuild eh?). Seeing as how levitation is no longer outlawed. A team of mages will cast levitation on several units and send them soaring over the walls, while other mages summon flying Daedra to assist and a team of archers and mages rain covering fire down on the enemy so those flying will not become pincushions. Have the Heavy Infantry/even cavalry (mounts confirmed. Do any MMO's allow mounted combat?) be held in reserve till an opening is found and push them right into the gap.

Did anything like this ever occur in DAoC. I really doubt anything like that will ever occur except maybe in the RP server. Too many people will rush in to be the hero and through sheer numbers likely take the forts eventually...

Might be interesting if there was some kind of device that could be set up that caused respawns to occur in the area for all who died in the area. The idea being it uses only those corrupted by Molag Bal and set up to only summon certain races. Might get messy though.

Btw, most people kind of ignored the OP lol. Hard classes only be damned.

Ahhh.....amazing! i wanna play THAT game! Coordinated attacks are so much more effective, agreed, people should use their brains more.

Where did you see levitation confirmed in the game, though? That's fantastic! Also, the 'real time' combat actions like block, run, and duck are the only ones confirmed...we don't even know if jumping or diving/rolling made it past the cut yet.

I never saw Levitation confirmed lol. it was speculation based on Lore and what I would think tactics would be like in that kind of situation. Levitation was banned in the 3rd Era. It was perfectly effing legal in the 2nd era and most of the 3rd Era! It was also usable in certain conditions in the 4th Era. I am assuming levitation is allowed in the military because it happened in Lord of Souls against the floating city of Umbriel. The damned Imperial Battlemages put 2000+ Legionaries in the air against it! Flying actually more than levitation though. Or at least that is how I pictured it.

I am well aware of what has/has not been shown yet but that was merely a thought. Obviously the idea would be very watered down. Eventually people will know where all the secret passages are and defend them anyways. Real world warfare cannot work in a situation where people can learn things as they die. Everyone becomes a damned Sun Tzu!
