[SPOILER] What's your opinion on the game ending?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:21 am

When it's over it is over. You have to start over to go back. In fact once you have the last quest assigned a lot of stuff is cut off. Don't worry though you can always replay on nightmare mode. :D

I think you can only get it on the first run through/first time you pass that area.

My brother who was watching me play the game was debating with me how the plot twist was going to go. Was the Authority going to be the good guys, was the head of the resistance going to be evil? but then the credits roll and we just look at each other going "was that the ending". Major disapointment in the ending of the game.

Anticlimactic. I thought you would have had to fight something boss like at the end. Or at the very least change it up so its not all mutants. But nope. Wave after wave of mutants. I mean it was exciting but i imagine thats only because i played it on nightmare. You can't even go back and finish the races.

I was loaded with MAX ammo on all high powered weapons but I completed the last mission using nothing but Smart Wingsticks. The only time I actually fired a weapon was at the very few heavily armored enforcers.
And the cut scene at the end should have been longer. Other than that, it's a great game with great graphics.

Look guys, yes the ending was short but isn't it completely obvious that the ending wasn't id's fault... it was the publisher's fault. After 5/6 years of development time the publisher (Bethesda) forced this game out into the market place for a holiday release. I am sure id has some grand epic final boss planned like they always do but it got scrapped. IMO RAGE was epic until the ending but after the credits scrolled I kept saying... I know id didn't have that planned initially.

Couldn't they just do a DLC with what they earned for a better ending?

I liked the ending (even though I thought it could be a little longer) because it was really open ended and leaves a lot of room an awesome continuation. I think the game was the right length but I agree with a lot of you that the end mission was a little short. After all I spent about four times that amount of time on the Jackals shortly before that. The bandits in the game seem more powerful than "the authority".

Disappointing..I was really enjoying the game..but there was no build up to end. It was just an abrupt stop. No boss battle of any kind.
I was a shame there was no main antagonist. A face to hate. Well they do say its not the destination but the journey so It was a great ride as long as it lasted.
Everything else was perfect, graphics (texture pop in isnt game breaking deal with it), rpg elements could be deeper but it was good enough and my god the shooting it fits like a glove.
:) Might replay it on hard again after awhile.

Would absolutely love some more DLC please.

I hear a lot of people complaining that the ending was a cliffhanger, or about the final cutscene. Personally, I don't mind the cliffhanger, and I love the final cutscene (short, sweet and dramatic). What was disappointing was (as the person above me said) the abruptness how the game ended. No mounting difficulty level, no extensive exploration, we never met General Cross. Just a few waves of enemies, then press a few buttons, then you're done...It feels like we only got the first act in what should have been a three act final mission.

A September release window that was pushed to an early October window is nowhere near enough to the magical date of 12/25 to be called a holiday release. I don't think Bethesda was putting any more pressure on id than they were already putting on themselves.

I am sure id has some grand epic final boss planned like they always do but it got scrapped. IMO RAGE was epic until the ending but after the credits scrolled I kept saying... I know id didn't have that planned initially.
That's a gut feeling, not a fact. id was under a tremendous amount of pressure at the time - they began hyping Rage way back in 2007, so by late 2011 they were already way off schedule. IMHO Rage's shoe-horned ending was the result of time constraints and mismanagement which spawned when id tripled its staff, joined BGS, and set down a definite release date.

But obviously since I don't work at id, I can't really know.

Ending was crap...

In general i didn't like the ending... Especially those muties everywhere, they were the stronger and bigger ones, I needed sentry bots, defibs and some bandages to complete it on nightmare... And the cutscene in the end was pretty dissapointing.. It should be longer, and should show how the Resistance beat the Authority... But maybe it's some kind of sign of RAGE 2 ? Looking forward to it XD

Yes, the ending svcks.

Games aren't developed in a linear/chronological manner. You don't start at the first map, then move to the second, and so on in order until the last, following which you release. Maps may be built in any fairly random jumbled-up order. They're like movies in that sense.

Unfortunately that means there's no conspiracy theory about the game being rushed out. Unfortunately that means that the ending as it stands has a very high probability of being intentional.

The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that id were aiming for a moody atmospheric and down-played set-piece, perhaps as a deliberate contrast to some of their earlier blood-and-thunder endings, but completely failed to pull it off.

The developers didn't have an idea for ending, though. Honestly I didn't even understand a lot from it.. I was thinking that the ending cinematic shows the beginning of the game XD

Well considering there will be a Rage2, I don't think it's that big a deal anymore if the first one had a crappy ending. In fact it's not even that bad when you look at it for what it is. It's just the last bit of gameplay that really svcks.

Most games are made with an ending that could well the the absolute end to the story, and then the developers find some way to make a sequel emerge. For Rage, on the other hand, I believe they made the ending so that it'd be obvious there would be a sequel because they knew they couldn't keep working on a game that would keep getting larger and larger, 25gigs is enough.

Anywayz the ending really isn't as random or open-ended as thought by some, nor is it hard to understand. The arks emerge, all of them, so it makes sense to assume that Rage2 will show the real revolution from the Resistence, and so on

I wonder why so many people are wasting their time with playing the cut game and writing those threads... I know the game was cut, just for me. and I'm angry, 'cause noone tells me how to unlock the full game. But I will be a rich man in one or two years

bye bye
