[SPOILER] What's your opinion on the game ending?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:35 am

Well. I think despite all technical issues the game is great!

But I was a little disappointed with the ending. I expected Capital to be epic city where I have to work under cover or something. But it turned out that all you get are few corridors. Ok I took it like it is and expected epic battle to happen. It turned out to be one of the easiest missions. I haven't spent a 1\4 of my ammo, not mentioning special items. I was saving BFG ammo some mega battle, but it all ended after killing a couple of dozens of "digital-mutans" and outro after it.

I also thought the game will be longer. I have to check my game time.

What's your opinion?

I like those type of climates, post apocalyptic worlds and such. But game ending is the worst part of this game... RAGE should have been longer, with more secret areas and such, but right now you can end the game just by pressing forward, there is no challenge in this...

I've checked my game time. 11 hours... to complete the game.
It includes stalling somewhere while doing a tea etc. And I'm medium-paced player - exploring everything, trying to loot all the items.

I've just played to make sure I did everything and now game time is 15 hours. I've made every single optional, all races, knocked all the flying things on the road. It also included included sewer cleaning missions, pointless wondering around while trying to find something interesting (there's NOTHING interesting you can't find ANY surprise), stalling while eating dinner, killing ~100 government cars, exploring every single corner of Wastelands, shooting ~50 cars, rocketing every chaingun tower and so on.

Rage is disappointingly short and linear.

Image doing Rage screenshot contest. Everybody would send the same pictures.

Why I post it? I hope they will collect opinions and will do better in a future. And will NOT SPOIL DOOM4!!
I think it would be interesting to make like 10-15 question poll to gather opinions.

its great game despite the ending

Agreed. Also, they give me the best gun and I get to use it for a whole ten minutes on the last mission?

The ending credits last long than the last level. You can do it all with a shotgun and pops, and the odd wing just to change it up.

I have to agree with most of you. A very short, anemic, anti-climactic ending, that pretty much leaves you saying "is that it? :meh:

It ended when I thought the real game was starting! Seriously I thought we'd be damaging the Authority now here and there, more bad ass mutants but instead it ENDED! :S awesome game but a [censored] ending :\

Yes, the ending was pretty unspectacular in terms of length, map design and graphics. Especially after having played the wonderful Jackal Canyon before.

My opinion is that Rage's first scenario (Hagar settlement/Wellspring) is larger and more interesting than that ugly metro station later on.
Should have swapped them starting underground and then moving to Wellspring later. Maybe they developed this game chronologically and had to cut the ending to make it fit all specs of the three target platforms.

Through the whole game i had the feeling of to head for a big showdown and i felt confirmed by fights against the big ugly mutants. Even if these fights were too easy.
But THAT ending was the most disappointing cliffhanger ever to me. i often felt angry by a game′s end but this...and now there is not even a news if there will be DLCs or whatever in the future ... so overall i liked Rage but was very disappointed by it′s end and therefore am disappointed by ID.

HORRIBLY DISAPPOINTED

Way too short, all missions felt the same, buggy combat was SO overblown, weapons and customization was OK at best. The only cool things were the environments and the story itself. The opening cinematic was AWESOME. The ending to this game was bad and left me saying, "Where the [censored] is the rest of the game?!"

2 disc installation... really? How on god's green earth was RAGE at all worth 2 discs alone.

Maybe I'm bitter, but I just felt like I got taken advantage of and ripped the [censored] off. Don't even bother making a sequel id, unless you guys can all dive into the Creativity Pool and make a better game.

I mean really: You wake up in an Ark 100+ years in the future, get chased through said Ark, picked up by a strange man with John Goodman's voice, and then said man simply sticks a gun in your hand and says "Oh ya, I know you don't have even have the slightest inkling of a clue about where you are and what's happening, but uhh, could you go into the bandit hide-out and wipe-out ohh... 45+ guys. Thanks man! Oh what's that? You'd like some information about current events and where exactly we are? Sorry, I'm just a guy with a gun, and apparently nobody in this god-forsaken land knows ANYTHING about what happened, other that a crazy scientist and your Arch enemy.

Also! The whole time playing the game, I was getting MASSIVE flashbacks of Borderlands.

umm what happened? I kept waiting for something big to happen, it never did, thoughout the game you were taught before each mission to ammo yourself up, I almost ran out of ammo and pressed the last button.... cutscene WTF?! Never used the weapon Portman gave me, was waiting for a reason to use it.

The ending was the buildup to a potential sequel.

Have any of you played it on nightmare?

I only have 1/3 of all achievements finished for teh ps3

I enjoyed the crap out of the game. I played it on Eyefinity 5760X1080 with a Radeon 6970, and after the initial tweak file, the game ran great.

The ending was really, really weak though. Like most of us, I never fired the BFG. I never even switched to specialized ammo, of which I had a lot, for any gun. I finished the last stage with regular shotgun rounds.

The game is AWESOME and it's the first time I've ever enjoyed a racing game (Super Mario Kart notwithstanding) but, yeah, I expected the final confrontation to at least have a purpose.

ok I just finished this game after taking my sweet time and doing everything and I mean everything. with the exception of the online/co-op achievements I got every achievement in this game, found every Easter egg,all secret rooms, everything looted, side quests done yatayatayata. I didn't want this game to end I was having so much fun and then I get the BFG for the last quest. OH MAN!!!! I went back to disc one and played bash tv for a lil while got max cash and then loaded up on all my ammo, had spare parts for all my bots and turrets and rc cars, and had 20 of each already built. I was set to go. so I enter capital prime and pop my adrenaline and my faster regen and pull out my shoty....I booked it through there like a mad man killing everything in my path, didn't even bother to pull out the BFG because I just KNEW I was guna be fighting something BIG and needed to save it for the epic end game battle with cross...............well 15min later(if that) the game ends after the damn quest was just starting to build up to something I didn't even get to use the BFG or the 100 BFG alt rounds I bought. Hell I didnt even get to face the [censored] bad guy that has been the bane of my existence since I stepped out of the ark, and to top it off the end video was only 30secounds long and with NO free roam after the credits, just done and over with. I immediately got on my computer and came to the official site and registered just so I could say !!!!!!WTF!!!!!! Heres my question to anyone who can answer it(the dev's especially). Why do you give us the kewlest most amazing gun in the game on the LAST mission and then only have that mission consist of 20 enforcers and MAYBE 60 authority mutants? Didn't it ever dawn on you guys that oh I don't know maybe a confrontation with cross you know the big bad guy that's running the place we just broke into might be a good idea? Hhhhmmm maybe even some mission after this to go help the ark survivors work together, or even some destruction to the authority in the form of a few more quests destroying their [censored] and what not. Hell you could have kept everything as is and just added a few more corridors and then a big area with a face off of like 4 krakens 2 large mutants one giant mutant and endless authority mutants until you killed all the bigger guys and managed to get past them and send out the signal to the rest of the arks with your last dieing breath. Then you could have mad a 5 MINUTE video with the same thing u had at the beginning and then little clips of the resistance grouping up the ark survivors and fighting the authority to the bitter end and end it with marshal standing over crosses dead body or something. At least then we would feel like the game truly ended,AND more then .000000000001% of the ppl who bought the game would have pulled out there BFG and got to USE it. I don't know about you guys but I'm guna go back to the auto save when you enter capital prime and replay the whole mission with nothing but the BFG just so I can at least say I got to use the damn thing.

Anyway this is getting long so thats it I'm done, and to clear up any confusion I loved this game. It was really really fun, but the ending was THE most disappointing ending to a game that I have EVER seen!!!!!!!!!!!

Have to agree, definatly the worst ending to a game ever! I stocked up on plenty of high powered ammo and like others I kept the bfg ammo expecting an epic battle but never even used it plus the last level was probably one of the easiest & most boring levels in the game. Seems like they just had enough of making the game and just stopped it right there, very dissapointing! At the very least you should have been returned to subway town and been able to continue any unfinished job board missions, mutant bash tv, races etc. That aside it was a straightforward & enjoyable game but can't help thinking it could have been so much more!

I just finished the game and even knowing that EVERYONE has been saying the ending is sudden and poor, I was still surprised at how bad it was. Where was Cross? Where was any kind of epic showdown? What about the arks that emerged? I think I've been left more satisfied completing Sega Master Systems games that simply said Game Over after a final boss fight.

Carmack said the worst mistake they made with this game was making it too console friendly. He wanted to get 60fps on consoles so they didn't put as many monsters in it as they should have making it too easy to beat even on nightmare level. In the original Doom, for example, nightmare level has all the monsters respawn as soon as you kill them and just keep coming.

It also seems to me the game starts going downhill as soon as you join the resistance. You get long boring dialogues and more powerful weapons that make it way too easy and just beg for more monsters. Between the spider bots and pop rocks and advanced wing sticks the challenge is completely gone. When you get to the last level and its just plain steel corridors and not even a new boss monster its as though they gave up even the pretense of trying to make it interesting much less challenging and decided to just get it over with and end the game. After six years I guess they were tired of dealing with the thing and ready to move on. Hopefully they'll come out with a DLC or somebody will come out with a mod that kicks the action into high gear for at least PC gamers.

I was disappointed in the ending as well and agree that maybe after 6 years they just wanted to get it over with.

I'm wondering if the ending is the opening act for RAGE 2?

Seems pretty obvious doesn't it. They struck the first serious blow against the authority, but now the real fight begins. Of course, that means new upgrades for all the ark survivors!

Just finished the game after 41 hours of gameplay! Some of you guys are being melodramatic about how bad the ending is. Sure Capital Prime could have been a much bigger level than it was. Sure it could have included an epic boss battle (yeah I too was hoarding the BFG rounds). Sure it could have given you the option to keep playing w/o starting over. That being said, I don't know about you, but it played out pretty much how I expected it to...raise the arks and game over. Maybe a better description instead of "worst ending ever" would be "not the most epic ending ever".

The lead up/last level itself was a shocker and extreme letdown, the ending itself was pretty much expected.

Awesome game with a horrible ending.

I DON'T dislike the ending, I HATE THE FACT THE CUTSCENE IS SO SHORT!!!!!

It was like what? A few seconds? Not rewarding at all, doesn't give you that feeling... that you get when you beat an epic game. Doesn't give you that feeling at all.

But see, that's just the ending. I don't think anyone likes the ending.

Haven't made it to the ending yet but i have a question when the "main quest" ends is the game over completely like fallout 3 or is it like Oblivion and Skyrim where you can still go around and do sidequests etc. Please answer so i know if i need to get some side achievements before i end it
