Where is the degradation?

Take your character's clothes off and run through the city while jumping around in circles.

That ought to be enough degradation for ya.

Also the "it wasn't fun" comments baffle me, does everything need to be fun and provide instant gratification? Seriously, what have we come to? Dying isn't fun, so let's take that out as well, no?

Its a game, its purpose is to be fun. The possibility of dying adds to the challenge, and thus the fun.

The inevitability of having to lug multiple weapons and sets of armor on adventures does not add challenge, and is tedious and lame.

I'm perfectly fine without weapon degradation i hated it in oblivion . Smithing is a huge improvement.

Considering it's been terrible in every single TES game, as well as Fallout 3 and New Vegas, yes, it's much preferable to have it taken out rather than another try at it and Bethesda probably screwing it up again.

No, not really. And it has been far from terrible. I have never understood why people said that. The hammer thing might not make sense, but maintaining your weapon and armor does.

Then we fundamentally disagree about what the purpose of a game is. I'd like to see it as more than just fun and entertainment.

That's not fun, that's tedious and takes you out of the experience.

And that doesn't describe the combat system?

The difference being that there's actually some degree of challenge to the combat system. Armorer was clicking.

Yup, repairing wasn't fun, just a chore. Upgrading items however, IS fun :).
This is how I feel, although it does feel strange. We will get used to it though and love this new system :)

Did Bethesda ever say that your improved weapons would revert back to their non-improved state after a period of use? 'Cause I just thought that was just what some people were assuming was going to happen. Though I wasn't really keeping up with Skyrim news so I don't really know for sure.

Perhaps true. But I really don't consider "it's not fun" an argument.

Since I still have a smithing system that lets me feel connected to the processes involved in care of my weapon (upgrades and weapon creation) I feel that I don't miss weapon degrading.

It as mindless work where I clicked a hammer to avoid being naked in the future and sometimes felt like a chore instead of some awesome skill I can perform because I am awesome.

I've been playing TES games since daggerfall.

Bethesda want the money of the dumb kid who need auto regen health to kill a goblin and can't manage too many skill at the same time. And yet they cannot comprehend that the very content included in their games means their userbase/customers are advlts and young advlts.

Still weary about buying it. Only morrowind was good unmodded and I want to see how modabble this is first.

This is exactly why I was a little apprehensive about joining this Forum, seems to be overpopulated with PC elitist's.

Yes we get it, your smarter/ better than us console players in every way, the game may be good enough for consoles, but not for your precious PC.

So if the game is not good enough for you, and you don't even have it yet, why are you posting here? You have nothing constructive to contribute so why are you here?

How very aggressive of you!
I never implied any pc elitism anywhere in my post. Could you even point me where I wrote that pc player where inherently better than console players?
(pro tip I'm both).
This kind of game though IS too limited on a console mainly due to the lack of mod support(no insult mean to the beth dev, but modder outclass them by far), Especially when the TES serie is progressively mainstreamed bit by bit, shedding every time a little more of the depth of the game.
TES6 will have even less skill because they can get away with it.

You have no kind of authority to belittle me for being there and voicing my opinons, and discussing this games with people who own it.
Do you seriously think that you should have to be some kind of raving really devoted fan just to be awarded the honor of using the GENERAL board of skyrim nowaday?
Can't I just be on the fence looking for information? A forum is not a place where only one opinion is allowed, and it isn't detrimental to anyone that I voice mine as long as I don't insult anyone or speak aggresively to anyone...kinda like you just now.

It tells more about than me that you've felt that my post was insulting in any manners.

Not claiming victory, no claiming I'm the better man, it just doesn't feels right to see someone reast like that.
I have some doubt concerning the quality of this game, and fear they may be pushing it too far in the fps direction. Don't like my opinion? Oppose some though out argument not THAT.

Your flaming is a weak warmth on my dunmer skin, ye n'wah.

I honestly don't care, as long as I can tweak and forge my own weapons, which I can.

Skyrim is the best game I've ever played: it is even better than Morrowind was!!!!!

We obviously don't have the same opinion.

The fishy stick of course.

BTW, you deserve one for summing up my thoughts on the PC jerks here WITHOUT cursing.

Because maintaning and repairing your equipment is a chore and pause in the game.

There's really no challange sitting on your ass oiling your weapon, or having a blacksmith do it for you. It's just... bore.

?

There only was Repairing in the previous games, and it was fast.

And how about Lockpicking from Morrowind? In Oblivion, it was funner.
They could have made the same thing for repairing, if you like when there's interaction.
