You can only build in in falkreath hold, hjaalmarch, and I forgot the third hold. My favourite would probably be falkreath hold, in the nice forests.

With my luck they will set out on a perilous journey up the 7,000 steps, fighting off yeti's and giant spiders just to offer me a "once in a life time" deal.

Since I wander around the Rift alot just for sightseeing, that is definitely where I would love to build.

Of the actual places available I am guessing Falkreath. Not sure about the Pale. I would have to see the location. The Hjalmarch home looks to be located right where a Chaurus Reaper spawns. It will be interesting to see what they do about that. Those svckers bite hard!

Well, consider who your character is, for RP purposes...

A Thieves' Guild player might want a home in a centralized location. Having restored the Thieves' Guild to prominence in Riften, the next step is to establish chapters in the other holds. I'd say Hjaalmarch.
A mage would want to be near Winterhold, and the College, to check in on their colleagues more conveniently. The Pale is closest, I think.
A Dark Brotherhood type would want to be near the Falkreath HQ, so a house in that hold would be best.
Consider that after the Civil War, whoever wins, there will be resentment in the vanquished holds. If you favor the Empire, Falkreath is friendly to it. If you prefer Ulfric, go with the Pale. Hjaalmarch seems neutral.
Also, which hold do you like becoming thane of? You might have to do that, you know.

Well, the known 3 so far are The Rift, Falkreath and The Pale. Personally they all sound nice. So all 3! I have the septims! The Rift with it's beautiful autumn trees, Falkreath with misty pine forests, and The Pale for that wonderful feeling of coming inside while it's snowing hard and warming up by the fire :D

And run to the guards to learn even more about their life.

Fixed.

It would be nice to be able to report crimes.

Heh. What Skyrim weapons would he use? Or weapons from mods if you're on PC.

Well I would like to build a little cabin in the woods on a mountain side where I could bake pies and serve them and coffee or ale to passe-rbys while we swapped a few lies.

But I guess I'll have to check out the locations offered and select my favorite spot among them. Land is sometimes hard to come by and they aren't making anymore. Sort of like it is when you buy land in real life. Gotta sometimes settle.

I guess I'd like to see a variety of options but I like the forest near Riften or somewhere with lots of snow like Dawnstar or Windhelm seems kind of nice. As long as we get options. I don't even know how getting a plot of land works.

Buying it from specific characters in the holds available for building I guess.

Even though we don't exactly know everything about Hearthfire yet, where in the land of Skyrim would you want your house (or houses) to be at?

I want one of mine in the forest by Riften and another one by the College of Winterhold.
I dont think you can build it anywhere you want,There are preset locations where you can build. I think..
