White Wii vs black Wii?

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 8:51 am

What's the difference between the original white Wii and the newer black one? I'm trying to buy a Wii on ebay, trying to keep it under $60, however usually in the last ten minutes the bid for just an original white Wii (no games or accessories) jumps to around $100 for some apparent reason. The black Wii at the Bx is $150 and includes a game...So is there really so little difference between an old white Wii and a new one? So many people are outbidding me and paying $100 for a Wii that's used and several years old....

Maybe I should just get a Kinect, idk. I was thinking of trying to grab a Wii to have it around to play while drinking with people....

They looks different. That's it, the hardware in them is the same.

Gotcha. So an older Wii has WiFi and can use the motion + and all the newer Wii stuff just the same?

eBay pro-tip: don't bid until the last 10 seconds of the auction, then max-bid. Bidding wars raise the prices of things. Sniping is the way to go, IMO.

Yep. I have the original white Wii and all the same games and accessories work. I don't think there's any difference except the color of the plastic.

Yeah I'm probably going to lose. I'm the high bidder with about 5 minutes left. Losers always screw me at the end :<. $60 for a Wii, likely to happen? Lol we'll see but I don't want to pay much more.

The new one doesn't have gamecube compatibility.

Woo, won it for $61.01 +$10 shipping. Not bad. I'll just use GameFly for games. I had my max at $60 and someone pushed to $61.01 for some reason so I jumped to 68 and they never bit back.

So it comes with yellow white and red cables. Can you do any sort of HD with the Wii? Component cables maybe? I know nothing about the Wii....

Yesterday I was bored so I just bid on random stuff all night just to raise the price for people. It was fun until I won an auction for a pen and pencil set for $10...hahaha. And then I read the description and the seller notes the pen doesn't even have ink.....laaaaaame. I like to think I helped the economy by getting sellers a few extra bucks on a bunch of random stuff... Some may call it trolling though

The new one can jump higher and gets stopped by police more often.

Nope. That's a common point of criticism, actually. Wii games look like crap on HD TVs.

Great. Well it may look like crap, but good thing it'll be mostly used with 'beer goggles' on :)

Anything else I should get? Should I get the motion plus right off?

If you want. It lets you play select amount of titles that you couldn't without the remote, and gives you increased accuracy when playing regular games. Isn't required though; a regular remote will work just fine.

Instead of just using it for beer/party time, try picking up a couple excellent Nintendo exclusives. There actually really good, and you'll find yourself having just as much fun with them sober as you would with any standard AAA game.

Recommendations;

-The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
-Super Mario Galaxy
-Super Mario Galaxy 2
-Xenoblade
-Pikmin 2
-Super Smash Bros' Brawl

A couple off the top of my head.

You can make it a little better by getting a component video cable. In my experience they can make the output less fuzzy...composite video pretty much svcks. ;)

For a Zelda game, Skyward Sword honestly svcked. I don't know why it received as much critical praise as it did as I just couldn't find any fun in it at all. Fi is ten times worse than Navi ever was.

Smash Bros is an awesome game to play with a few friends when you're less-than-sober, though.

Huh, I thought Skyward Sword was pretty good and I usually hate the 3D Zelda games.

Meh, tend to hate platformer games, so that rules out all Mario and Zelda games... I see no point in collecting stars or hearts and jumping on stuff.

I forsee a broken TV if you get Wii sports, because of your drinking and stuff.

Zelda isn't a platformer, it is an adventury puzzle solving dungeon thingy.

Alright so my Wii arrived in the mail today and apparently it was from a pawn shop. Anyway the previous owner has content on the Wii and I was wondering if there's an easy way to reset it. Like there's all kinds of personal pictures on the 'wii photo message board' and all kinds of other stuff... Kind of creepy...I mean just that it's filled with all kinds of family photos, including the kids who I assume probably miss the Wii that got sold to the pawn shop...

Anyway... Yeah I don't have a manual or antying, just wondering if I can wipe it clean. They have some downloaded games on it it looks like, is there a way to keep those? I hope it's not tied to a credit card or something in their name still...

EDIT: Okay I formatted the memory, so hopefully there's nothing left behind...

I had to call Nintendo to get them to unlock the parental controls that were set on the darn thing. Luckily once I answered like 42 questions through the automated system the customer representative helped me out pretty quickly (though she asked my age.. Like I really sound like a kid....). She spoke American English too, definitely a plus...

Why would you buy a nintendo based device and dislike Zelda or Mario. :stare:

Good luck trying to enjoy the Wii...

Question about Virtual Arcade or whatever it's called.

First of all, before I even put my credit card info in I had 500 Wii Points (after formatting the console), is that normal? Anyway I bought 1,000 more.

So if I bought a N64 game can I control that with the Wii remote, or is it recommended that you get the Wii gamepad I saw in the store? Would it be hard to play say Mario 64 with the Wii remote and nunchuck?
