who gets dlc first?

Post » Thu Dec 23, 2010 4:48 am

Just look at it this way.. PC/360 players get the DLC first... and PS3 gets a polished version with bug fixes PC/360 players report. ;)

Not sure how they work on game releases but I believe I read somewhere porting a PC game to a 360 version is much easier compared to a PS3 version. That said it would make sense to port it first to 2 systems instead of 1. I hope for the PS3 people DLC will be released at the same moment on all systems.

Yes...and considering the fact that there has been no announcement of whether what platforms the DLC will arrive on first, and there's a little over a month left until the game releases, then surely it'll be on all three platforms at the same time. Who knows, Sony may have done a deal this time around so that the PS3 gets it first for a limited amount of time.

We just dont know, so I dont really see point of speculating until the game actually gets closer to release.

Please do not try to start a console war. And the correct term is X-bots (or Sony.....ponies?phoneys?)

Sony Saints, and as a sony saint I'm hoping we get dlc at the same time, but I know the ps3 is more advanced so it takes more time, I'll be ok as long as they don't pull a bethesda and announce the first dlc on the ps3 when the third dlc for xbox has already come out, Then they don't agree to the release date they stated before and release the first dlc three months after it was announced to be released.

No it isn't. What system is easier to program makes no difference to which will be released first, if they have the programming and optimisation finished from the base game then any subsequent DLC will be much easier to develop, even for the PS3. Stop trying to make up excuses as to why the 360/PC should get it first.

It will be easy to port it over to the PS3. The PS3 is the king of ported games. Its so advanced that games developers would rather make the game on the far superior xbox first and then just do a lazy port to the PS3 after.

The PS3 was a hard console for Bethesda to develop on. They "weren't caught up with the technology." Seriously only Bethesda had this problem. No other game is so bad on the PS3 compared to the 360. M$ thinks that they can win this "console war" by throwing crap load of money at non-exclusive games. No wonder they lost most of their exclusive developers.

Its M$ that is keeping the flame on the console wars. They better announce the plans of the dlcs before New Vegas is released.

Edit; Bethesda said that they never made any deal with M$. They just didn't want the dlcs on PS3 at first. That was Bethesda's fault. They could of at-least forced M$ to give em some $$$. Because M$ paid Rockstar $50million for their expansions.

With the FO3 DLC it was announced a considerable time before release that they would be released for XBox/GFWL as an exclusive. Everyone was aware of that (well those who bothered to read the information), and yes, there was a lot of unhappiness about it.

There has been no such announcement this time so we can only assume that if there are any DLCs they will be released for all platforms around the same time period.

So... technically that should clear up the whole assumption that the developers had difficulty programming for the PS3? I never read anything about an actual exclusivity deal, and whenever asked, Bethesda was hush hush on the whole thing and would never comment. A reference would be nice.

I agree that any planned DLC this time around will be released on all platforms the same time. However, as a precaution, I'm going with 360 and PC this time.

I have no reference, however, it was announced at E3 and probably somewhere in the Bethblog prior to the release of Fallout 3 that the DLC would be exclusive to GFW and the 360. I know no more than any other member regarding exclusivity of DLCs, I can only say what was announced. at that time.

It's well known that the PS3 is different to the other gaming platforms in terms of programming, it's pretty much all new and shiny whereas the others are like improved versions of older tech. As such a lot of people code for their products on the 360 or PC then port it over, it's as simple as them being unfamiliar with the stuff they're dealing with. Presumably this also explains the horrific bugs the PS3 got with F3's DLC...

However more devs are used to the PS3 now and some are favouring it over he 360 to work on. I can't see a fantastic reason for DLC to be delayed for the PS3 (Unless M$ decide to throw more money at it). Of course given the choice I think people should opt for PC, access to mods alone makes it worthwhile, otherwise there shouldn't be sods difference between the platforms...

I don't know about you guys, but it seems that for non-PS3 exclusives, game developers and publishers seem to favor the Xbox 360 and the PC.

This is assuming that Fallout NV wins Game of the Year? Remember, the game has to be good enough to actually win the award for them to release Game of the Year addition.

A game that includes the original and any DLC that may be subsequently released does not have to be called GOTY, if it doesn't gain that title it will have to be called something else.

Bashing any platforms is a bad idea, m'kay?

Doing so will earn a warning and posting ability suspension.

This used to be true about a year ago. Sony was pretty dumb charging $500/400 for their console. That all changed when they started selling the PS3 for $300. Look at the difference it made. The Wii started selling less, both the 360 & PS3 started selling much more. All the game developers started favoring the PS3 more then the others. The only company that still doesn't is Activision (Bethesda, & the remaining 360 exclusive developers) but thats because M$ is paying em $$$ for the add-ons to be released on the 360 one month earlier (Call of Duty).

Bethesda now hopefully knows the PS3 is a better place to develop so we PS3 users may not get screwed again by Bethesda.

Its just easier to develop on the 360, pretty much all multi platform game creators say that. Plus I read somewhere that they are prioritizing the 360 version.

I probably won't download the DLC, well in fact I won't, I don't really like doing it, its bit of a pain moving console and TV to connect to internet, so I'll wait for the disk release with extras, so it doesn't really matter which console get its first, I'm waiting anyway.
