Who is Irileth, really?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 12:19 pm

Mephala is the demon of murder, six, and secrets. All of these possess subtle aspects and violent ones (assassination/ genocide, courtship/orgy, tact/ poetic truths); Mephala was meant to embody those dichotomies, and this made it (Mephala is hermaphroditic) a difficult deity to understand. It is no surprise that Vivec exploits the more popular characteristics of his progenitor: combat and art.
- Approaching Vivec

Lilith is the closest person to King Balgruuf. She's been with him for years, since the two met in war. She's obviously stayed for the loving, but Lilith's also deft with steel swords. Now, if someone needed a mole and last resort knife, in the court of Skyrim's pivotal kingdom, who better than the king's lover and tactician - who better than a Morag Tong assassin?

Something to think about.

I take it her paranoia and lack of hesitance to gut you at the slightest hint of being a threat to Balgruuf slipped past you?

He's her mark, and her cover needs to be perfect. Use your head.

Irileth/Lilith, whatever popped out of the fantasy name generator. They all sound alike.

Okay. So this is based off of her past association with the Morag Tong, and the Morag Tong's association with Mephala...

Using you head is presenting and comparing evidence. This is just insinuation/speculation. Speculation is good though. I'm not prolific enough to ever come up with my own speculations.

Yeah and it looks like you replied to my statement more or less saying "think" with...Think...I said she was ready at a moments notice to gut the player and you're telling me its a Cover. In game representation > speculation.

No problem with speculation, and you did good with the connections, but the Morag tong have been in decline for a time, and theirs next to no mention of them in Skyrim....and barring events 200 years later, the Morag tong operated only in Morrowind...which is overun and a fancy sauna save for the time they pwnt Versidu Shae (spelling) on the Imperial throne.

Minor Nit-pick: They did his kid, Savirien-Chorak, in. Versidu-Shaie became the Chevalier Renald (under the instruction of a pig, if the Remanada is to be taken at face value)

Who is she? Now that's an interesting question. Her name is Irileth, and she's a dark elf, obviously has a deep trust and respect for Balgruuf. Friends forged in war. But, truly, who is she? That's a very philosophical question indeed, that many have tried to answer about themselves.

(Morag Tong is dead. Mephala's sword is still locked up . . . she really is paranoid and does show respect for the jarl, and actually is very honest and blunt. Nope. Don't see it.)

Dunmer are [censored]ty, Balgruuf is Single. Do the math, and the solution is Balgruuf fathering himself a Symmachus reborn soon enough.

Dunmer Women are promiscuous. Also, Symmachus is a lore reference. Symmachus was a Dark Elf sired by a Nord Male (Born to a Dark Elf Mother) which supposedly accounted for his immense stature. He married Baranziah, Queen of Morrowind.

Am I really the only person who reads the in-game books?

Not the only one. The only in game book I've read is the one that mentions Khajiit genital physiology. Because someone said it mentioned a nvde male Khajiit and as we all know, Khajiit are very sixy furry beasts  Spiked Schlongs Mmmmmm  :bunny:

Any woman in power must be sleeping with the man who put her there. Uh hmm.

Dunmer women are promiscuous when they're younger. Irileth is probably a couple hundred years old. Not saying she wouldn't sleep with the boss, but you can't just presume she is when there's no proof in the game.

As for who she was before... who knows. Dunmer can be many things over their long lives, as Barenziah demonstrated.

...And even in the Barenziah book it it clearly stated that it is _said_ the young dunmer women are promiscious - I recall someone saying to Barenziah that some are and some aren't. So my conclusion is that it's a prejudice.

Sure, it's possible that Irileth and Balgruuf are lovers, but they might just as well just be friends. Other relationships are hinted in the game, this isn't one as far as I can tell.

Couldn't it just be six out of mutual respect and attraction? Irileth requested the position of Housecarl, Balgruuf didn't put her there, so it's not a "Sleep to the top" kind of thing in any sense. And Housecarl isn't even a high "rank"... Proventus on the other hand... Skyrim doesn't judge.

An agent of Mephala who is quite happy for the Ebony Blade to be locked up so it can't cause any harm 20' away? And before you say the Admonition against Ebony says only Balgruuf and Farengar should have the key, and that's because they can't trust her, the journal makes it clear nobody can be trusted with it.

It could be. It might also be just what it appears, military comradeship, friendship and loyalty.
