Hi,
I love ID software, if you ask me what is the best game software house ever I know it for sure, ID software!
I really like John Carmack and all his innovation, he is a genius and we thanks him for all he brings to the game industry, I'm really convinced that ID tech 5 will be the next standard in terms of evolution, megatexture is the new technology from a good known genius and we know the benefit that this tech can bring to the game industry, but wait a moment.

I know that Rage is experiencing some problem with texture due to its "auto balancer" and so I tweaked the config file to improve the situation,
I followed this guide:

the situation improved but the above was the result.

My system:
Windows 7 64bit + nvidia latest 285.38 driver
Intel i7 2600 (4 cores - 8 threads)
NVIDIA GTX580 SLI
8GB RAM
every other components are high end components.

Ok not every texture is so low res, but the world is full of low res texture and the high res one isn't so high res.
What are the reviewers that wrote that RAGE has an amazing graphics? Is this the amazing graphics?

I'm really, really incredulous, is this the latest game from ID software?
Something must be wrong, I can't belive it!

Please give me an answer.

I any case I'm sure that you will fix the problem and if not I'm sure that DooM 4 will be THE ultimate game. I'm really confident in ID.

The original game was 150GB they had to compress most of the textures in order to put it on disks and make it bandwidth friendly for the users who buy a digital copy.

why can other developers do this better in other current games!? RAGE is a very big graphic misstake - not more!!! Sorry!

P.S.: The game is 21 GB big! 21!

The'll fix the textures with a patch. But I am really sick of the ports anymore. ID focus on PC only , screw the consoles.

I'm a really devoted fan like you but I'm not stupid, so I don't protect my loved "brands" in a silly way.
The graphics of this game is incredibly crappy.
There are some room when you can see a good graphics but most of the game I can see low res texture only.

Have you seen what Crytek done with 10GB in Crysis2 + texture pack?
RAGE is 21GB.

I'm an ID fan, I will continute to buy their game without reading reviews, I trust them, I love their work, good or bad, but this is bad.

Crysis 2 was'nt even that all impressive , Its Playstation 3 graphics dude.. Look at Crysis warhead that even looks more real then the cartoonish looking crysis 2 ..... It''s $$$$$ that talks and consoles have a ton of users.. Remember if it can be played on a console im not impressed , sorry...

I cant speak for all but I quite like those screenshots. I have a masters degree in art, and I think those images are strong. I like stylised graphics, yes they could be sharper but then the world could be flatter etc etc. I am not happy though at the footage they used to sell the game, as it was obviously not the same build we will be playing. (getting game at weekend) no im not cancelling, even with an ati setup.

OMG LOL. I thought there was something really wrong with my GTX460 but it seems this game has really ugly graphics. It looks fantastic in all trailers. But this.......... :facepalm:

Actually it reminds me of graphics in Duke Nukem Forever. Still waiting for a real jump forward. Unreal Engine 4. It will probably destroy id Tech 5 just like UE3 did with id Tech 4.

What problem are you talking about?
Sincerely I can't see any problem during game except that I can't use my second GPU and I don't think that a SLI improve graphics.

We are not talking about art we are talking about computer graphics and that graphics is a crappy graphics.

Megatexture is just a [censored] technology. There's no future in it. DX11 already looks at least ten times as good, and runs a lot smoother.

I will say that the wide-open spaces in RAGE look pretty good by DX9 standards. But if you get close enough to anything it's just a big blur.

When running properly, and after we as gamers do the developers work.... (ridiculous I know), the game actually looks amazing. Its a [censored] iphone cam, but the texture detail is insane when you adjust the config to allow more memory for the textures... i mean it is beautiful.

What's 50 or 60 dollars every 5 years on a company that you've enjoyed their products? I agree with this, it's just that catering to the console was a miscue on id's part.

id: "ohnoes, we can't fit out game onto 3 blue rays, damn us for making a game with 99.9% of UNIQUE textures, lets just make'm LOOK the same by dumbing them down into 1% of their uncompressed forms"
community: "wtf - this game looks worse than commander keen"
community: "wow, you can even LOAD the game, keeps crashing"
...
...

you get the point. <3 id, disappointed in this release.

RAGE looks just like Borderlands, and Borderlands is on Unreal 3 engine. id tech 5 is suposed to offer what features compaired to the Unreal engine ?

don't try to advocate rage game, and ID software. too late. this game is just unacceptable. it has no texture details, no physics, no dynamic sky changing, no depth of field, no dynamic light effect, and so on. and 21GB. Deus Ex Human Revolution is only 8.5GB but has very good detail, high textures, good light effect, physics (you move almost many object or destroy), other modern graphic effect. overall quality is 100 times better than Rage. 7 years old ID tech 5 engine can't handle them. making with openGL is a big mistake. what a pity.

OpenGL is the father of CG graphics, the problem isn't in OpenGL.
Games mostly runs on DX11 because its faster and easier to use, OpenGL is left to genious like Carmack.

No, it doesn't. Borderlands is made using toon shaders. It's a completely different story from Rage. If you consider Rage being a Borderland like game (graphically wise), please quit this discussion. You haven't technical knowledge to distinguish a shadow from a texture.
