Who STILL can't figure out what race to play?

I'm not sure if there is a conjuration list but if you have the ability to summon bears, wolves, etc.. I'll be a male Breton ranger, but most likely a female Bosmer assassin.

[censored] me I can't decide either... I was interested in bosmer until I found out they're religiously cannibalistic/will kill you if you step on a flower accidentally. Maybe i'll just work around that, or save it for a time when I want a cannibalistic hippie, they look so awesome now though.

Me. I'm torn between 2;

Whatever I choose, I am pretty much using the same skills: One Handed (Dual Wield), Conjuration, Enchanting, Illusion, with dabbling in Alteration and an armor skill (haven't decided between Light Armor or Heavy Armor)

I'm contemplating either a Wood Elf, for their Animal Companion racial ability, and role playing a Wood Elf who is one with the forest, but consumed by evil spirits and dark forces, and has been corrupted by dark magic. Would be a mix between a Necromancer (summoning undead and reanimating zombies) and a Druid (Command Animal spells).

The pro's of this build are the RP, I really enjoy the idea of someone who is one with the woods, but corrupted by dark spirits. It's loosely based on my main Magic: The Gathering deck I built which is a green / black deck that uses black magic to reanimate powerful creatures from the dead (most of my deck's creatures are all forest style creatures). It mixes my 2 favorite magical classes into one (Necromancer, Druid = NecroDruid :P). Wood Elves also get the Animal Companion racial ability which highly reflects the character's affinity for the forest.

The con's of this build are that the Wood Elf's skill bonuses don't apply to the build at all as I will not be using Archery, I would -prefer- Heavy Armor over Light Armor (though I may still go Light Armor), and I'm unsure how much Sneak I'll be using (I would like to do it, but even if I do I don't believe it will be a staple of my character). Also, when it comes to Command spells, I highly doubt I'll be avoiding "Command Humanoid" spells, which breaks the animal affinity roleplay if I'm mind controlling bandits as well.

The other choice is a Breton, due to their skill bonuses in magic. The roleplay will be relatively the same as the Wood Elf, although as a Breton instead of a Wood Elf, he obviously won't have the "one of the woods" roleplay. Instead of an affinity with the woods, the roleplay would be that of a mage who eventually masters dominion over all minds, summoning them to do his will, as well as commanding them to his control.

The pro's of this build are the skill bonuses, in particular Conjuration which I want to be my main skill. This bonus includes an extra starting summon spell, which will help me get to summoning right off the bat. RP wise, I don't know if the character is as rich in flash and flair, but the build feels like an epic hero to me (a lot of this comes from the fact that both characters - the Wood Elf, and the Breton, are loosely based off of characters of my own fiction, with my Breton being loosely based off of my fiction's main hero, while my Wood Elf is loosely based off of a secondary side character. The character my Breton is based off of is also the opponent of the character that my Oblivion character was based off of, so there is a bit of a connection there by creating versions of my hero and villain). Also, since my character RP isn't limited to forest and animal affinity, Command Humanoid spells better fit under the roleplay of this character.

The con's of this build are that I'll be utterly giving up the "forest affinity" roleplay of the Wood Elf, the Breton doesn't start with an Animal Companion racial ability (and if Command spells are rare as they have been in past games, such as Morrowind, or even non-existent, then the Wood Elf Animal Companion ability is the only way for me to command a creature), and a Breton Tank Mage doesn't sound quite as unique as a Wood Elf Necro-Druid.

On top of my race, I'm still torn on what armor skill I want to use. I am torn between whether I want to play a Heavy Armor tank mage, or a Light Armor stealth night blade - both playstyles are about as equally appealing to me. I essentially played a Light Armor night blade in Morrowind, with a stealth focused archer / assassin / thief who also specialized in dark Illusion and Conjuration magic, while in Oblivion, I played a combat based, claymore wielding tank who specialized in dark Conjuration and Mysticism summoning and soul harvesting magic, with some Destruction and Alteration in the mix as well for extra damage potential and extra tanking potential.

So basically my choice comes down to:

*Breton Heavy Armor tank mage who focuses on my summoning capabilities by taking advantage of the Conjuration bonuses and extra starting Conjuration spell and doesn't limit his mind control capabilities to just animals, while giving up the forest affinity roleplay and Animal Companion ability

OR

*Wood Elf Light Armor night blade who focuses on my animal affinity by taking advantage of the Animal Companion racial ability, and limiting my mind control abilities to just animals, while sacrificing Command Humanoid versatility and the early head start on summoning creatures.

I used to have this problem with RPGs, then I came up with a few fixed characters that I use in all of them. Makes choosing easier when you already know what your first character or two is going to be long before the game even comes out. My first and second characters are those fixed, pre-decided ones, then if I make a third I'll try something new and random.

I'm sort of torn between Argonian and Breton at the moment.... ... and maybe Khajiit... or Bosmer...

Nord sounds quite appealing to but, RP-wise, the setting of the game actually deters me from wanting to play one; it seems too... predictable.

I played a Nord in both Morrowind and Oblivion but now it does seem too predictable. I play other characters but the Nord has always been my main one. If I can do a black Khajiit then I'll go that route, if not I may just stick with a Nord. He'll finally have a beard though!

OK, I came up with a solution for my worries, http://www.roll-dice-online.com/

first roll: 2 sided, 1=Male, 2=Female
second: 3 sided, 1=Mage, 2=Warrior, 3=Thief
third: 10 sided, one for each race.

So, a male dunmer thief it is for me!

Don't fret OP, despite the moderate gains of racial bonuses and abilites, TES has never pigeonholed you into picking a "perfect" race. Pick what you think is the coolest lore wise and roll with it.

I've been somewhat unsure but I think (hope!) I've decided. Im thinking about a Breton and using light armour, sneak, one handed and archery (and lock pick, pick pocket and alchemy. Maybe a bit of illusion as side skills) with a rough back story of him not being quite in tune with magic as his kins men, instead having an affinity with the shadows. He would of been brought up in the poor areas of high rock and start to envy and hate the nobles who look down on him. So eventually he decides if he can't earn what he has, he'll take it. One unfortunate day during a burglary of a nobles home the home's owner returns unexpectedly and during a brief struggle my Breton will kill the noble. Knowing it will only be a matter of time until he is found out he flees to the neighbouring Skyrim...

Just a rough idea but im quite found of it as of the time of writing, Im not very well informed on the lore of the elder scrolls but it sounds plausible to me. what do you guys think?

I figure I will have plenty of time to play around with some early characters. If you can't disable POI markers with an in-game option, I really can't play the game until the Creation Kit comes out. I don't want a GPS signal spoiling my fun.

I'm still not sure. I'll be playing a nord warrior, bosmer or argonian theif, and a dunmer blade/mage character. I just can't decide who to go with first.
I'm gonna be in character creation for at least an hour, lol.

I'm still not sure...

My Imperial Ranger? Should I make him a Bosmer? Dunmer Mage?

I'll have all day at school to contemplate. :)

Altmer need more love.

I 'intend' to play an Altmer who is heavily proficient with magic, but uses a blade also. Pretty boring, but i'm an Altmer, so it's all cool.

I will play a Nord or Imperial....NOT SURE YET.

Probably Nord since I usually play Imperials in TES games and...well it IS Skyrim this time round.

I'm conflicted of course... I generally go with Imperial my first play through since Morrowind... however with what the lore behind Skyrim I feel as though Nord is the more appropriate choice. I am leaning towards Nord right now.
