Who STILL can't figure out what race to play?

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 6:01 am

I've honestly done way more lore digging in the past few days then I ever thought I would ever do for any game or franchise in my life (I thought I was fairly familiar with ES lore before, but it seems as though I was wrong...), and I still haven't made up my mind. Considering I already anticipate spending a minimum of an hour just tweaking the facial features of my character, I can't imagine I would be getting any sleep if I tried to mess around with every single race until one "felt right".

So who, like me, still doesn't know what they want to play?

By extension, who has made up their minds already?

I was leaning toward Redguard because I'm going to do a 1 handed/Heavy Armor/ with light to medium magic, but I'm really think I might go Nord just becuase of the environment.

I'm torn between making a Khajiit thief and a Dunmer assassin.

No clue, no stress.

I'll likely play whatever race impresses me most when I start the game, or make an Imperial look like myself.

Was originally going to go as a Breton but then went to Imperial, back to Nord and then finally back to Imperial. I can't wait to play this game.

When in doubt, go Argonian.

I had the same problem. I think ive gotten more immersed in the racial lore this time than previous ES games. I finally decided my first character will be a sadistic evil demon orc who lusts for power. After that prolly gonna go with a human stealth/thief/sin type. Then who knows maybe some sort of mage. The variety of combat options make me want to play more role specific characters than ever before!

I surely hope the sounds and kill animations are different for blunt weapons than edged.

Race isn't a big deal; the game is about what you do, not what you are.

I'm sort of torn between Argonian and Breton at the moment.... ... and maybe Khajiit... or Bosmer...

Nord sounds quite appealing to but, RP-wise, the setting of the game actually deters me from wanting to play one; it seems too... predictable.

I'm probably going to go with Dunmer my first playthrough, followed by an Imperial at some point. Those two have always been my favorite races in TES.

I'm playing an Altmer Mage first, relying heavily on magic skills. I'm not sure about the gender though...

I'm either going Khajit or Argonian. I don't know because I haven't seen the game yet. I'll figure it out on the fly.

I'm not really stressing about what race I choose, I have my mind set on a Redguard.

The only thing I'm stressing about is what kind of character that I want him to be...

I'm hoping there's a way to audition the voices before choosing. I want to be happy with the voice I'm going to hear doing shouts all the time.

I'm doubting between Orc and Nord.
I'll see when creating my character.

I've always been disappointed with all the Elf faces, as well as the Imperial faces. Bretons make cute female characters. All Redguards just look awesome. Orcs are hit and miss, but tend to be combat monsters... they just feel out of place in TES to me... like they're crossing over from a different fantasy setting. Argonians are just a touch too exotic for my tastes, although Khajit are just as exotic and I think they're awesome. Nords felt weird in earlier TES games, but they're the central part of this story, so I'm giving them heavy consideration.

So, yeah... my first character will likely be a Male Khajit, Redguard, or Nord. I'm still debating. Is there a chart of racial traits somewhere, or do we have to wait until game launch?

UESP has a page on each race as they appear in Skyrim, including their starting racial abilities and stats. I'm sure the information is in a litany of other places as well, you can probably just google it.

Although it's been said early stats won't be nearly as important this time around.
