Why all the love for Serana ?!

Post » Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:59 am

I guess beth wanted to show different moralities between different vamp characters.
Moralities regarding . . .food?

 You may be right, there is already morality issues against meat lovers and vegeterians these days.

Why does everyone love Serana so much?

She svcks.

She nerfs your power.

Why would you be so fond of someone who only makes you weaker?

The predatory mind of Nocturne does not understand this...

She annoys me, only got the DLC this morning (you can get it on disc btw  if anyone remembers that..) and already I just want to end her but she's essential to the dawnguard side...

My main reason for posting was to share how she just ruined Frostfall Lighthouse, I won't spoiler much, but I was going through, killing em off, then stopped to read a note next to the authors body, came out of the note screen, serena goes "who's there" and raised the author!!! (of the note)

She also raised the brother in a fight...

Now they have turned to ashes, never to get a proper burial.

Hah! Funny. I was just running around killing bandits and Serana piped up; "So, this must be the famous Skyrim weather I've heard so much about."

...

Wait a minute! You were entombed in Skyrim! Your father's castle is on the coast! What are you talking about!?!

[Edit] Come to think of it, she has been under for several hundred years...so maybe the weather was different then?

But wait a minute, she said she "heard" about it, well, who the hell is talking to an entombed vampire?!

ooh and another thing absolut'e annoying , when you are talking to her and she starts doing her nails
Well, nails are very important to a vampire. Without nails, your coffin just falls apart.

Seriously? You may not like her, but the very fact that you DISlike her so much just about proves she's one of the strongest characters. Apathy would maybe lend some validity to your last snark. But, by virtue of your seeming intense dislike there must be something there that's intense enough TO dislike.

No, it only proves how terrible she is...

She's not a strong character, she's annoying and about as deep as a puddle. The fact that she steals my kills and weakens me is just another reason I don't like her.

Serana making you weaker is a bug, that was not meant to be like that.

Shallow? What game are you playing? She's the deepest, most fleshed-out character in Skyrim so far. Hmm... if she's better at killing than you, well, that's kind of you, not her, isn't it? And I keep hearing about how she weakens a player, but I've yet to experience it. Maybe it's because I'm fairly high level (over 50 Vamp side and 30 or so DG side) or maybe I just automatically adapt without noticing that I even had to adapt, but I've never had a problem taking Serana on any mission.

If Serana acted like every other vampire in the game I'm sure someone would complain about vampires being strictly the bad guys and that Beth has not imagination or something. Meaning somewhere, someone will find something to complain about no matter what.

"Bad guys" in their perspective. Vampires still think Dawnguard are the bad guys. I hate the fact that Serana would be so willing to betray her own people to join the bad guys.

I think it is because she sees her father as a moron because his plan would be the end of vampires due to the chaos he would cause. Not to mention she has the hots for your character.

Yeah thats the only reason why I see serana going to the dawnguard plus bethesda is on a budget and I don't think they have the money to make another npc like serana for the dawnguard.

My brother loves the dawnguard and agrees that they should of had their own npc since serana being there is pretty loose at best since you are vampire hunters. Plus her mother even points out that its silly. Its the reason why I think she fits more in the vampire quest line.

1. That's not good, that's pretty bad.

2. I never said she was better at killing than I am. I've been trying to fill the perk tree for my VL and every time I have someone at low health and I'm ready to kill them and get closer to a perk, she kills them.

3. She weakens the damage you deal. All I know is that I deal much more damage without her. Playing is also a lot more fun without her constant squawking in my ear.

So what? Hell, she could of plotted with her own people against her father or even manipulate the Dawnguard instead of shaking their thumbs with each other. She's a cool vampire, but she's not what a true vampire would do.

Yeah, I do think it would have been cooler if she manipulated the vampires into following her.

Well it's not cant get any in real life. It's an RPG, a game full of adventures and choices. But they took a choice away. A lot of people want to marry Serana and the only thing close to it I've seen is someone cloning seranas image onto a new NPC and making that one able to get married.

Also without mods alot of females are just ugly in the game in comparison.

Some people also just have their own RP story they want to fulfill.

Some people also use mods to make her more so attractive for those who didn't like the original appearance

1. Huh? Seriously dude? Then play DA:O if you want lots of yammer and a little actual roleplaying. That or you're just not paying attention, or maybe you don't understand and can't fill in the blanks?

2. Well, apparently she is better at killing than your character is if she's snatching your kills. This is REALLY easy to solve, BTW, VL it solo, dude. I thought that was pretty self-evident. If you want all of the brass rings, you have to be the only one on the pony, Chuck.

3. Nope, can't say damage levels change with or without her. At first, she did a bit more damage than I did in VL form, but not now. And again, if her yammering annoys you, tell her to beat it. There are only a few times were she NEEDS to be with you. AND, you can get her story then, or ignore it, whicch you must've done.

I think you might want to look into a Wiki or something to get Serana's whole bio as told by her, Valerica, and Harkon. Not only do we know her childhood to now, most pertinent info, but she also reluctantly tells us how she FEELS about it. Not in the caveman way Galmor Stone-Fist makes his feelings about Imperials clear, but in a very human way, a human tainted by centuries of being a vampire, of course, but a human nonetheless.

Now, since you agreed with me on point one, that she IS the most developed character, and you can't stand her, why are you even playing? Seriously. That's a serious question. Because, you can't be playing for character and story if you've already now admitted that this is the best of it and it svcks. So, if you're not playing for character and story, for RPing, then why are you even responding to character discussion threads?

I tend to see Serana as a bit of a lost soul, pardon the pun.

She's been locked away since before Talos, she only knows her family and the vamps in the castle, they all die with the exception of mom who she doesn't get along with too well, and the only other people she knows are either you or the dawnguard, so she really doesn't have a lot of choice as to where she goes or what she does. Added to that, it's pretty obvious if you follow a particular choice path in the questline that she is pretty keen on the player character, so a split with him/her could be pretty devasting for her emotionally.

Just my observations after I ran through the questline a particular way.
