Why are some people complaining about the vampires new looks

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 1:15 am

I love the new look. It reminds me of the old Morrowind look.

What I don't like, is how they got rid of Stage 4 hostility- which makes no sense, now that vampires look even MORE like monsters. I mean, your eyes GLOW for crying out loud! If they want to make it so that it's easier for vamp players to complete quests, how about an illusion ability that temporarily masks your appearance? Problem solved.
They got rid of the stage 4 hostility because players whined about it.

I won't complain either way because I like them both depending on the storyline. And about some people's theories they are supposed to be monsters and such. They are also supposed to live ageless lives and that is where the beauty comes in on some stories. Example I like the way they looked in Interview with a Vampire as well as they horrid way they looked in 30 days of Night.

Problem is OP they did not give our PC the awesome bat nose only gave us a red slit and the dirty face bug for females now I stand forever jealous looking at garan's awesome bat nose.

I am using the better vampires mod so I can re enable stage 4 attacks pretty stupid that they removed it imo.

The new vampire face looks way better than the old one! Yep.
I like the eyes the most- the way they glow looks great! All the more creepier when in a dark dungeon...

Actually, in the original novel Dracula is a charming, Romanian aristocrat who also happens to consume human blood.

...It's pretty established that Dracula is a complete monster by the end, given, well, everything. His charming nature is a facade.

I don't mind how my vampire looks. Lore-wise Volkihar vampires aren't meant to be pretty. But the nosebleed line looks idiotic to me. I wouldn't mind my vampire looking like that first pic though.

Lore? Lord Dracula... ehm harkon an his entire cliche vampire castle and court have not to do anything with previous lore.

Also the thing that's stupid about the Vampire apperance is simply that it would fit to the Volhikar mentioned in the book "immortal blood", but not to the vampires in Dawnguard, the main problem is that the appearance isn't just for the Volkihar, it's for all, which is stupid especially by vampires like Sibelle Stendor. Also in Radiant quests where you have to identify vampires - lol perhaps the guy with the glowing orange eyes? Tthat you don't get attacked anymore in vampire stages, combined with more obvious appeance is also strange.

You don't have to remind me that the lore regarding the Volkihar was retconned. The only lore-correct thing bethesda got right was the appearance. They shoud've kept the stage 4 hostility IMO. I'm still going stubbornly think Sybille Stentor is a cyrodilliac vampire.

It's good so many people agree with me.

This is why I like PC people like you who want to play bat nosed monsters can and people like me who want their characters to look at the very least vaguely similar to what we created in the character creator also can. Personally I wouldn't be able to get passed the idea that if my character looked like most Volkihar Vampires there is no way in hell she'd be able to get anything done with anyone other than other Volkihar vampires

This is kind of why I use mods to make myself look normal, Im sorry I just don't see how a yellow eyed glowing dunmer with a bat face or perpetual nosebleed would be able to walk anywhere passed the front gate without being attacked.

I guess I prefer Cyrodiil's strand of vampirism, Blending in with society and actually being able to question if that person is a Vampire is more fun, like that quest in Oblivion for The Order of the Virtuous Blood.

these vampires just stick out like a Flare at midnight, and the NPC's don't give a crap. I know they're supposedly under their spell or something, but come on! their eyes are glowing brighter than the sun right now!

I'm fine with how the Volkihar vampires are, only thing I could add is them actually BURNING in the Sun.

I liked the new vampire appearances so much I started a new character to go the vampire route. How do you use the more animalistic features though? My guy just gets the glowing yellow eyes, I want the flat nose skeletor look like Rorgal Thrallmaster and some of those guys who hang out at Castle VonDarkness get. Are they for npcs only? If so is there a mod that unlocks them for players?

Theres a mod at the nexus that allows for players to get the bat nose I don't remember what it's called though.

I remember during pre-skyrim, people wanted to give the vampires a more "monster-like" appearance. We finally get that in Dawnguard and there's like a dozen threads complaining about how there character isn't "hot" any more. Vampires are creatures of the night, hunters of mortals, there suppose to look like this,

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_T1GXmgj7TQk/TTJubmNZp0I/AAAAAAAAAvM/ZKOxUNRXcMM/s1600/Vampire_51570_CN.jpg

UGLY. I don't like vampires being "sixy", as I said before vampires should be beastly. Compare these two photo's one from Pre-Dawnguard and the other from Dawnguard,

The last one looks cooler in my eyes.
the new vamp look that you showed in that pic is great, unfortunately when you get turned you have a ridiculous red slit down your face and look like you just smashed your face into a wall ad then fell in a mud puddle.

For me, it's not a matter of what they look like, it's a matter of not being able to alter their appearance through the Riften person (which seems odd considering this is a DLC heavily emphasizing vampires, so why would you advertise something big like that that your character cannot use if they are a vampire. It's

More importantly however, is that while suddenly it's more than obvious to anyone with at least an iota of a brain cell that you're a vampire, nobody cares. They removed NPCs' hostility to your vampire characters, in a DLC that features vampires attacking towns, which would logically mean that they'd want to kill you if you came into their town and you are a vampire.

If they were going to do that, it would have been better to make vampires look even more human, not less human.

Of course, this could have (largely) been avoided if Bethesda had gone down a path of having multiple vampire strains to choose from. Those wanting to be the pretty vampires that you so despise could go down the path of the Cyrodiilic strain, and the people wanting to be proper monsters could go and be Volkihar. The Vampire Lords introduced in this DLC could be done either way.

That's another thing that bothers me about it. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to the new vampire appearances. Harkon and his family are all normal looking, save for maybe their eyes, but others look monstrous. You can't seem to decide which way you want to go, so you're about halfway inbetween the two appearances. Very odd.

Dracula's pretty ugly. He's a cruel-looking old man with a hooked nose and hair on his palms.

This. I prefer them too. You can still become a member of the Order Vampyrum and dominate others in the name of Molag Bal, but it is usually in a smaller, subtle scale than a public war. I still hope, depending on the location of the next game, that the Order are included. If it is High Rock, then you bet there will be some Order involved since they got beef with the Glenmoril Wyrd(maybe thats why Melisande is the last witch within Cyrodiil's borders).

Yes, but people are comparing the Volkihar to Dracula. I wouldn't go that far. There was some inspirations, such as turning into mist and such. There was also "vampire's seduction", which the Volkihar have. That power was first given to a vampire player in Oblivion, so I still do not know why they even have that ability. I guess cause they are ugly 24/7 and they need to charm their way into people's heads to enthrall them.

Seridur was going to enthrall Relfina in Oblivion, I suppose, when he hypnotized her and sunk his teeth into her neck. Like Dracula and Mina Harker. Also, a nocturnal visit into a cattle's bourdouir screams Dracula!

Now vampires look more like how vampires are described in the folk tales and original legends of the true world, and less like Hollywood,Gothic,Twilight like vampires.
I endorse.

Eh. They could have used this to make it so that Cyrodillic vampires look almost completely human, but Volkihar hideous. My subtle Cyrodillic vamp shouldn't have to have those eyes that scream "I'm a vampire!" like those filthy Volkihar.
