Why are some people complaining about the vampires new looks

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:37 pm

I remember during pre-skyrim, people wanted to give the vampires a more "monster-like" appearance. We finally get that in Dawnguard and there's like a dozen threads complaining about how there character isn't "hot" any more. Vampires are creatures of the night, hunters of mortals, there suppose to look like this,

UGLY. I don't like vampires being "sixy", as I said before vampires should be beastly. Compare these two photo's one from Pre-Dawnguard and the other from Dawnguard,

The last one looks cooler in my eyes.

i never complained about the old vampire look. I prefer it over the current one, but eh, I'm not going to go make a thread crying about it.

I for one love the new look of vampires. Now I can actually see the difference when I turn.

My character doesn't have the bat nose. How did you get it? :sadvaultboy: I don't mind how my vampire looks. Lore-wise Volkihar vampires aren't meant to be pretty. But the nosebleed line looks idiotic to me. I wouldn't mind my vampire looking like that first pic though.

Couldn't agree more. Undead are walking corpses. They shouldn't be pretty.

I agree, the Volkihar should look as ugly as hell, but certain vampires(like the court wizard in Solitude) should have been left Cyrodilic.

I don't really love the dog thing it has going on but it's much better than the pre-Dawnguard Vampires that's for sure.

Agreed, i like what the DLC made to vampire looks, only that red line under the nose looks wierd

Well the thing is really bigger than vampires, because the people here tend to make their characters and companions into some cookie cutter plastic dolls (or kawaii girls), so a tranformation of their "cute" gal into a hideous monster are shock for them, i know this is not my concern what other people put in their game, but for me this says alot

For me, it's not a matter of what they look like, it's a matter of not being able to alter their appearance through the Riften person (which seems odd considering this is a DLC heavily emphasizing vampires, so why would you advertise something big like that that your character cannot use if they are a vampire. It's

More importantly however, is that while suddenly it's more than obvious to anyone with at least an iota of a brain cell that you're a vampire, nobody cares. They removed NPCs' hostility to your vampire characters, in a DLC that features vampires attacking towns, which would logically mean that they'd want to kill you if you came into their town and you are a vampire.

If they were going to do that, it would have been better to make vampires look even more human, not less human.

Of course, this could have (largely) been avoided if Bethesda had gone down a path of having multiple vampire strains to choose from. Those wanting to be the pretty vampires that you so despise could go down the path of the Cyrodiilic strain, and the people wanting to be proper monsters could go and be Volkihar. The Vampire Lords introduced in this DLC could be done either way.

That's another thing that bothers me about it. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason to the new vampire appearances. Harkon and his family are all normal looking, save for maybe their eyes, but others look monstrous. You can't seem to decide which way you want to go, so you're about halfway inbetween the two appearances. Very odd.

I love the new look. It reminds me of the old Morrowind look.

What I don't like, is how they got rid of Stage 4 hostility- which makes no sense, now that vampires look even MORE like monsters. I mean, your eyes GLOW for crying out loud! If they want to make it so that it's easier for vamp players to complete quests, how about an illusion ability that temporarily masks your appearance? Problem solved.

They should add some masquarade spells, first legacy of kain: blood omen, had that kind of stuff, normaly townsfolk were agresive towards the player, but you could easly disguise yourself into a normal folk, i think same solution would work well for skyrim,

They can't really add in those spells as that is the domain of Cyrodils vampires due to Clavicus viles gift to them. The Volkihar are more about physical superiority and they look undead. That's why RP wise I always wear my Serana hood which covers his eyes when in daylight or around people... Sad I know but I like it :) covers my chars awesome batface

Yes, give us two monsters! The monster with the sheep's clothing who appears a normal man but in reality is a fiend, and the monster in the closet and under the bed.

my evil wizard looks much more evil with his glowing eyes and undead type look. I think the new look works great for certain characters.

Seduction has always been an integral part of the vampire myth, so you cannot fault someone for wanting "beautiful" vampires.
That being said, the benefits of being a vampire and the vampire storyline are too uninteresting to me for me to ever devote my character to being one.

To be fair, most people equate vampires to the tragic anti-villain of Francis Ford Coppola's Dracula, rather than the repulsive monster of the original.

Yeah, the disguise and beguile abilities were great in that game.

Cyrodiil vampires may have a natural ability to take on a more mortal-like appearance, but that really shouldn't stop other vampires from using illusion spells to disguise themselves. Just because the Nords have a frost resistance doesn't mean that other races can't craft armor with enchantments to provide frost restistance. Same with vamps and illusion spells.

Actually, in the original novel Dracula is a charming, Romanian aristocrat who also happens to consume human blood.

I'm all for different clans looking different, what I wish though, is that they wouldn't be able to jump into town that easily. Perhaps at stage 1 they look alright, and at stage 4 they look obvious and people get scared and guards attack you because you're a beast.

I agree, I want my vampire to look feral. I really love those bat faces Dawnguard vampires have. However my character only got the glowing eyes and a nose bleed thing which makes her look kind of sixy. The opposite of what I wanted.

Exactly,I almost never feed anymore,But i do it mostly for RP. Makes no sense like you said D:
And i think the vampires in skyrim should be mixed,Like all of them dont need to have the new look, like we should have cyrodiilic vampires wich they are supposed to be right? and the volkihar.
