Why is Bethesda so secrative?

Post » Thu Nov 15, 2012 6:21 pm

I don't get it.

Why hide whether this is a timed exclusive or not?

Be professional and announce it already.

All they are doing is causing discord with their fans and customers. Does that sound like a good way to run a business?

That's a very odd way to make an announcement.

When the Thalmor send their agents after you, you'll be secretive too.

Bethesda need to sort things out. Their communication is awful. I'm not even a PS3 player, but I can see the anger at the lack of communication. It has taken a year since release for an update on dlc fo PS3.

Legal reasons: break them and you have to take responsibility. Microsoft would be more than happy to take this to court and squeeze money from them just as a warning. And Beth would still be forced to cooperate with them in future due to the need to release their games on their platforms.
Doesn't matter if the rest of world knows something, legal rules must not be broken else there will be consequences. Thats simply business.

Being secretive... as long as it ain't official announcement and it is all pure hints it ain't breaking legal rules. In other words, using patches to announce DLC's (that was intentional for both DG and DB) is not a legal announcement so no legal rules are broken

Professionalism is not being kind and friendly. Professionalism is surviving in these legal Game of Thrones.

NDA sums it up. A lot of times companies can't go into details until all the big bosses have a say.

So is one rules of the contract with Microsoft is that Bethesda can't talk about the contract?

Most probably. For one, talking about it officially would be an attack on Microsoft's reputation (intentional or unintentional).
Also, the point of contract could be lost if it is talked about it: it could easily be used as an indirect but still official advertisemant for other platforms.

But in general, most of Legal Games (for all kinds of cooperations, not only video games) are not discussed with public, again for multiple reasons.

That they're working on some un-named content for PC (Dragonborn) and PS3 (The previous DLC, doubtful DB will get on PC3).
Probably due to legalities/commitment issues they're not allowed to say the actual names.

Because if they don't release DB, or any Add-ons for PS3, "content" could mean an update and no promises (based on that tweet) would be broken.

Reading the thread about DB beta, it seems there are some PS3 users in the Beta. Not sure that means there /is/ a beta for PS3 (very unlikely) because I believe the 360 beta testers were chosen at random.

Exaggeration does not serve your cause.

There have been plenty of updates and communication about the issues, they just have not had much to say other than we are working on it. All they really can say is they are working on it. That is all we can expect them to do. We can hope for and want them to fix it. What you have not received is the DLC, and you have been waiting for that since August 2nd, which is about the earliest a PS3 could have gotten the content if it worked on that platform.

I hate twitter and I will never join it ever. I refuse to ever ever EVER make a tweet, and I hate the thought of people calling messages "tweets". Very silly of me, I know, but I just can't get past that.

My guess is that since Skyrim is basically an Xbox-game that has been ported to PS3 and PC, they develop
and complete the DLC for Xbox and then port it over to the other two platforms, and thus cannot give an
exact date to when the DLC is going to come out on those platforms - not until it is certain that they can ship
the DLC in a condition that is playable - not without bugs - but without anything game breaking on the PS3
and PC. I'm fairly certain that PC and PS3 will be getting the Dragonborn DLC at the same time as Xbox, it's
just that Bethesda don't want to make a promise they can't keep.

It really saddens me that The Elder Scrolls have gone from a PC-game to an Xbox-game... I hope they'll work
past that when the next one arrives, although that one will probably be on the next generation of consoles.

I used to feel this exact way, and I would agree with you here, if not for having Carpal Tunnel.

It hasn't. The primary focus may be the Xbox 360, the largest market share (as far we know is there) but it's hardly an Xbox game. Continued support of the modding community flys in the face of that IMO.
