Yep. Hagen, played by http://www.hotflick.net/movies/2000_Gladiator/ralf_moeller.html, is little closer to what I'm hearing in Skyrim. I actually had to check to see if he was one of the voice actors. He played the TV Conan (...the barbarian, not O'Brien).

They don't even sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger. At all. I do think that they are repeated a little too frequently though for a game that promised 70+ voice actors.

Not a big deal though I just took it as the 'generic Nord voice'.

Most of the voice actors were told to imitate a Germanic or Scandanavian accent. Not hearing most of them talk like Nords would be silly.

I've been here for a while. The reason I have this avatar is because I like the show, just like everybody that watches the show.

It's not a fad, in fact, hating it is infinitely more fad-worthy than liking it, due to the intense hate that most bronies receive across the internet. Thankfully, the Bethesda forums lack the same hate, and most of the posters tolerate it. The same can't be said elsewhere, and there lies the proof that you'd have to be a suicidal masochist to watch/like the show because it's a fad.

I've been called homosixual, [censored], handicapped, anti-human, a furry, etc. elsewhere on the internet for liking the show. It's toughened my resolve, and I react less to haters and trolls. The reason I stopped caring? Because I realized they wouldn't stop me from watching a show I genuinely enjoyed because they were too stubborn, stupid, or ignorant to give it a chance. I was just as reluctant as they were, but I finally watched an episode. Which led to another. And another. And another. And then to me waiting impatiently for the second season.

The writing, character development, and morals in the show put most modern Hollywood movies to shame. The animation, music, and sound effects are great, while not being the shows only merit. I have to say, MLP reminds me of Classic Disney movies, in that they teach a valuable lesson, have good animation, have lots of humor, have catchy songs, and are still enjoyable as an advlt.

So, I'd ask you to at least watch a few episodes before you condemn it to any extent. Because then you give it a chance, which is more than can be said of 90% of the haters. I don't care if you like it or not afterwards, but don't hate on it without watching it.

And to prevent the mods from round-housing me.

On topic, I think the guards having a accent like Arnold's is awesome. Especially with all the comments they throw my way. It may get tiresome in the future, but it's awesome at the present, which is what matters.

I'm too busy admiring the voice actor for Belethor in Whiterun.

At first,it was hilarious,then I started hearing some random nords talk like him,then some main NPC's started talking like him,now it feels like all the guards talk like him.

I think they took the Conan inspiration a little TOO far.

I thought there were 70+ voice actors? Did they hide 50 of them? Or did they save 50 of them for specific main NPC's I haven't encountered yet? It seems strange.

I always here different voices, I rarely ever hear the same voice actor twice in the same city. I really like the ones with the Scandinavian accents.

I love when one says "Let me guess, Someone stole your sweetroll" lol does anyone know the story behind Bethesda and Sweet Rolls?

Not really a fan of the whole Scandinavian accents in Skyrim. Don't sound like any Nords Ive ever heard or seen in Ob, and Morrow.

I love when one says "Let me guess, Someone stole your sweetroll" lol does anyone know the story behind Bethesda and Sweet Rolls?

I think it's a trend they've carried from Morrowind.

One of the class-choice questions was "As a child, you take your mothers grocery list to Salmo the Baker, and he gives you a sweet roll as a gift. On your way back home, three thugs ambush you in an ally, and demand the sweetroll. What do you do?"

A) Throw it in the air, and attack them while they're distracted.
B ) Run.
C) Spit on it, and give it to them.
D) Give it to them.

Or some such. The same situation occurred with Butch in FO3, in the intro. There was also a reference in Skingrad in OB. There was a Salmo the Baker's house, with dozens of sweet rolls inside. The guards in Skingrad also had an ambient line. "I'll buy sweet rolls from Salmo any day. This one time, three thugs ambushed me..."

It was the same voice for all nords in both games.

Yeah they almost would have had to force a less authentic more normal voice to not make everyone think of Arnold, which is somewhat ironic, but mostly a testament to his lasting star power. It probably wouldn't have been as bad if it wasn't the exact same guy voicing everyone either, but that was more a design implementation I think to keep the game around a 5gb install.

The Nords in Oblivion had the same voice as the Orcs. Something definitely had to change for a game that focuses on one of those races. I like where they went. Some have strong scandanavian accents, some are weak germanic accents, some sound similar to Imperials.

Still don't think they needed to have those overly stereotypical accents. I wanted them to differentiate them from their real life 'Viking' counterparts. More Alien, like they are,. not just re-textured fantasy Vikings. At least they don't sound like Swedish Chef though.

The Guards sound more Afrikaans to me.

They certainly do not sound stereotypically "Scandinavian".

The Nords have a pretty broad variety of accents. Some of them have the German-sounding Arnold accent. Then there's the Slavic Dracula one. And finally some that sound straight up American lol. Like the owner of Warmaiden's. All the Nordic women I've noticed sounds plain American. How they developed such a medley of accents I'll never know.

ahnold has an austrian accent, not swedish. a few characters like jarl balgruuf's brother really sounded like the governator, but for the most part i just thought "scandinavian accents... cool" or in the case of the nord women, "scandinavian accents... sixy".

but ive an unnatural obsession with viking culture, so i can tell the difference better than most americans im sure.

Do you think Arnold invented his accent? Nords are supposed to sound GERMANIC and SCANDANAVIAN. They hardly sound like they're impersonating Arnold, the comparison is a stretch most of the time if you have a half decent ear for accents and languages.

So far I have encountered very few men with this accent. And as evilknick said, that is a gross generalization. That's like asking why all the redguards sound like Denzel Washington or something. That is what Austrian, Scandanavian, and other Nordic culture accents sound like. I'm fine with it, and I don't encounter it that often. Honestly, I think they did a great job with voice diversity. I haven't really noticed the same voices anywhere except maybe the guards. Occasionally you get two guards next to eachother that sound identical, but honestly I don't mind because it's so rare.

Through your insatiable urge to correct people on internet gaming forums, you seem to have missed the point of the thread. That voice actor, regardless of whether or not he sounds like Arnold, is used as the voice of what seems to be like 30-40% of the male characters in the game.

There is also another strong accented voice actor in the Nord towns that seems to be extremely common.

What's odd is how some of the Nords sound Germanic, some of them sound like Swedes, and some of them sound Scottish. I like to pretend they are just various tribes of the north lands, just like Europe.

And some sound Like Disney's Pete.
