Why does half the male nord population sound like Arnold Sch

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 3:58 pm

At first,it was hilarious, then I started hearing some random nords talk like him, then some main NPC's started talking like him,now it feels like all the guards talk like him.

I think they took the Conan inspiration a little TOO far.

I thought there were 70+ voice actors? Did they hide 50 of them? Or did they save 50 of them for specific main NPC's I haven't encountered yet? It seems strange.

Do you think Arnold invented his accent? Nords are supposed to sound GERMANIC and SCANDANAVIAN. They hardly sound like they're impersonating Arnold, the comparison is a stretch most of the time if you have a half decent ear for accents and languages.

LOL, I was going to make a post about some of the Nords sounding like Arnold, but I thought I was just crazy and didn't bother. Nice to know I am not alone.

What's odd is how some of the Nords sound Germanic, some of them sound like Swedes, and some of them sound Scottish. I like to pretend they are just various tribes of the north lands, just like Europe.

If I had an accent like that,I'd be going "Hasta la vista, baby" to myself xD Thats probably gotta be the most badass accent to have.

In all fairness to the OP, I think North Americans don't really hear this accent that much. So the first thing they do is associate it with what they're familiar with. Most of us are very familiar with the govenator...so yeah, I can see why you'd say it sounds like Arnold.

I'm sure, Bethesda being a western game developer, had this in mind when casting. After all, Conan plays a large influence in terms of art direction for this title.

Very true.

I can honestly say I have never heard anyone else that talks like him ever in my entire life,so the first thing that came to mind was Arnold. The only thing close is maybe some Viking movies I've seen with the typical "Helga" character, but other then that,I haven't heard people with his accent anywhere else.

Maybe I needa go watch more movies.

Yeah the second I heard a guard with that voice talk, I was like "Did they get the Governator to do some voice acting?" I imagine it is just because I never hear anyone but him with that accent since I live in Illinois, and as such is the only person I think of that has that particular accent.

If you've seen Gladiator then pay attention to the champion of the Gauls who wears the big metal mask and get's an axe spike in the foot.
"we who are about to die, salute you!"

Also, the leader of the Norseman in the 13th Warrior is a voice actor in Skyrim.

They don't even sound like Arnold Schwarzenegger. At all. I do think that they are repeated a little too frequently though for a game that promised 70+ voice actors.

Not a big deal though I just took it as the 'generic Nord voice'.

The first accent I picked up on wasn't "Arnie", it was Michael Hogan. At first I wasn't sure it was him, but then he spoke a few more lines and that's when I realised that "COLONEL TIGH IS GONNA CHOP MY FRAKKING HEAD OFF!"

I actually yelled "Get to da chopper!" the first time I heard a guard talk in the accent...
