Bethesda is preparing themselves for full player voiceovers. If you notice, the "topics" from Oblivion are gone. They are now complete sentences.

But characters do have voices, you just don't hear their dialogue.

Apart from the points already stated... Tongues in skyrim lore were kept gagged for a reason. All shouts are combined syllables after all. Say the wrong thing at home and your house in on fire, or the back wall is blown off, or you're teleported into the wall, or a dragon tears the roof off "you called?"

Main character in skyrim SHOULD keep his mouth shut... Unless we want him to.

...wonder if people will get nervous talking to us in endgame...

It's very likely the next Elder Scrolls game is going to have player voiceovers.

There is no source at all, heck Skyrim is still not out and you are already talking about the next game?

The reason why the main character never talks is because, we create the character, the character is our own, add a voice and honestly role playing will go down the drain, since we will all be playing the same character.

Dont get me wrong, i dont want/need him to talk. i am just wondering why some game developers just choose not too. and dont say because there cheap, or lazy. idk, give me your take on it.

EDIT: and you guys should all go to my Thank you, Bethesda thread and contribute, im writing down a big long list of heartfelt thank yous and stories to send to bethesda.

In a highly RP-centric game, having the PC talk breaks immersion by reminding the player that he's not actually the person on the screen.

They would have to get about 20 voice actors, and considering how much stuff the mc says...that would take like 1000000 terrabytes of disk space

Lol. It gave my statement the desired gravity. In reality, I can't "say" asterisks, so I wouldn't have really used the word.

Comedy appreciated, though. :thumbsup:

I pray to Todd that the next TES game doesn't have voiceover. That would almost certainly ruin the game for me. I HATED how Hawke was voiced in DA2 because it ruined my ability to roleplay. I hope Todd has enough sense to never include voiceover for the player's character. (I know dragon shouts are voiced over, but that is minor and doesn't hurt RPing.)

They should make him talk like the characters in Okami or Kingsley do.

No source, so we're fine, for now.

Though Bethesda feels a need to compete with other games. It's the same thing that happened with Morrowind to Oblivion with NPC voiceovers.

um... i kinda doubt it'd take that much space, otherwise there wouldnt be very much voice acting in the game... they said there are... i forgot how much exactly... 40,000 - 70,000+ i think... lines of spoken dialogue.

if voice acting took up as much space as you think it would for ONE character, then this game wouldnt be a game at all, just sounds. <_<

You need one set of dialog for each of the races and gender. Assuming every NPC tells you something and you reply in half the length. That is still ten times the volume of recordable dialog. That's not alot?

There are arguments for both voiced and non-voiced, but I would guess that primarily Beth does it for the immersion factor. Hmm... talking worked in the Mass Effects so *shrug* Its probably a space concern actually. Fully voicing all those conversations as many different characters... expensive and disk space prohibitive.

It works in mass effect because your character IS John Sheppard, you play as John Sheppard and no one else, it is a clear cut character.

Without a voice, the player can imagine any voice for their character. Overall it gives more freedom to the player, more control on their part.

Quick question;

Is anything known about the main character responses now ?

I mean in every past game, you could never respond in any way you found "cool" or fitting.
It was like;
"Hey there, My husband recently got his treasure stolen by a bunch of Sirens. Will you help him?"
1) Sure.
2) No.

What I mean, we need more options.

Bad example from my side maybe, But I hope you see my point.

it wont sound like my voice?
sylvester stalone and Swazerneger use to speak very little on their best movies.

Two actors you can barely understand, that is why they didn't speak.

I expect quite some threads from people complaining about their character's voice while dragonshouting.

I do not want a voiced main character under any circumstance. I've walked down that road for far too long. I like having a silent protagonist, that way I have my own "mental" voice on how he would speak/should sound. Voiced protagonists just ruin it for me. I hope Bethesda never adds it.

Morrowind = No full NPC voiceovers
Oblivion = Full NPC voiceovers

It can happen again.

You can always imagine your character voice and what you say. Like how DA2 svcked because of the whole 'voice' thing >.>
