Why no Elvis ?

Why no Ol' blue eyes
Why no Louis Armstrong

There's Sinatra on the soundtrack. Not a lot, but I'm pretty sure he's on there. No Louis Armstrong though.

I don't think I've ever heard an Elvis song that I personally liked. Jailhouse Rock STARTED good but in my opinion quickly declined

Fixed that for you. Objectively, Elvis' legacy and the popularity of his music stands on it's own and needs no defense.

I believe Elvis is in Arizona hanging out with Odd Thomas. Even he can't be everywhere at once.

That said,
Elvis has left the building.

It's copyrighted music, so I don't think it can be distributed via the Nexus or something.

If the music is put into a mod, why would that be illegal? It's not for profit.....then again, I don't exactly know a lot regarding copyright laws.

Something about distribution IIRC, but, like you, I don't know a lot about copyright laws.

Licensing issues. They said it would be more money licensing one Elvis song than all of the current songs.

0.o [censored] seriously, its a song, either his kids should stop leaching of his sucess or the record companies should think of this as a mutually benificial thing, again the inkspts got a boost from 3, but seriously wht the [censored] ? Why cost that much, its insane and just greedy.

Also no Mods for me, im xbox, meaning when I get money I will jsut buy all 50s music put it on an ipod and turn ingame music off, just pretend its the ingame radio immersion and all that... Though I cant wear my headphones :(

Pretty sure what you're suggesting is illegal, and you're worried more about angry posters who cant rename a file?

Should not be illegal, assuming that you already own the song, to rename it and listen to it as part of a game. Not talking about selling it.

It would've made for a great song if Mr. New Vegas was a visitable character and what not.

Bring the King Back!
-quest starts off as a simple request from the king to meet with you. He tells you he has heard this unique song, and he decides it was from the people long ago. Liking the song a lot, he says, why keep it hear? Why not let the rest of the world here it? So, you, the courier, go onto a major journey to deliver the songs to Mr. New Vegas.

Legal/licensing issues?

That's what I would presume is the case. I don't know about the details of licensing regarding Elvis songs, but I can only assume it would have either cost too much or been too difficult for them to license them.

Honestly, though, I just wish there were more songs in general, they don't need to be Elvis songs, it just kind of seems like a missed oportunity to not have them in a game featuring a faction modeled after him (The fact that the Kings don't actually know who "The King" they're impersonating is and just do it because they happened to take up residence in that building is beside the point.) and where several quests reference his songs. Really, they should have included more of the songs referenced in quests, but regardless, mostly, I just wish therwe were more variety in music so I wouldn't need to listen to Big Iron every five minutes. I have nothing against that song, mind you, or even any of the songs in the game, although I think I liked some of the songs chosen in Fallout 3 better, but regardless, the main problem is that even my favorite songs get annoying if I listen to them over, and over, and over, and over, and... well you get the point, and due to the lack of songs that the radio can play in New Vegas, that sort of thing tends to happen, at least in Fallout 3, I could switch over to Enclave propaganda and patriotic marching band songs or classical violin pieces if I got bored with listening to GNR, but in New Vegas, is I switch over to another station, it might well be playing the same songs I'm trying to get away from. Sometimes I just turn the radio off because I don't want to listen to the same song again.

We have the kings, so we know Elvis is popular, but why havent I heared any Elvis songs on the radio ? Why arent they in the game, I mean we have crap like Johnyy guitar, but no viva las vegas or anything, even though we have the kings, proving Elvis was popular, so yeah why did obsidian not put his music in, will we ever see more music added ?

I understand that one elvis song would have blown out thier whole music budget, but I think it's funny they don't even mention his name in the game. The King tells you they do not even know Elvis's name, all they had to go on was a few nearly worn out holotapes and some rotting books. Mr House no doubt has plenty of info about Elvis in data storage, and you would think something could be found in one of the Vaults, especially Vault 3 which was only unsealed a few years before the game. But then they hired Wayne Newton to be thier DJ and didn't include any of his songs either. They need to change.....the GTA games usually have dozens of songs, many recent hits from major stars, why does gamesas make a game with a sound track of 50-70 year old songs and only have maybe a dozen? The music they pick is great, but there isn't nearly enough of it.

I remember a dev saying they'd rather have a list of songs than a single Elvis song. Licensing costs must be high indeed.

Fixed what exactly? Everything anyone says is their own opinion. We are all different people with different tastes thus it is quite impossible for everyone to like one thing. Or hate it for that matter.

The fact there are no Elvis songs in this game shows how broken the music industry's business model is. It's bogged down by [censored] lawyers and clueless executives. Instead of making some money by reaching a deal with Bethesda that was actually practical, they get no money at all. Brilliant business plan. It must be the piracy that is blocking their growth...

On a more positive note, I'm a Pandora One customer. I happily pay $36 a year to be able to listen to an enormous collection of songs grouped by stations which can be tightly grouped or loosely grouped as I wish. I listen to it at work, I listen to it in my car (smartphone). I didn't think about it until now, but it would be great to listen to a 50s themed station while playing FNV.

I wonder if the developers considered a deal or partnership with Pandora (or Last.FM) with a predefined set of stations themed appropriate for the game (with Pandora you can't set an exact set of songs, it chooses them quasi-randomly like a real radio station). It could also feature custom injected content (the DJ commentary). Compare this kind of subscription service with the paltry DLC they currently offer. And it seems with the right compromises they could avoid the cess pool of lawyers. I'm thinking an initial $8 startup fee on top of the game's cost to activate a Pandora One-like account. Regular Pandora One is always paid up front for a whole year, but obviously that would not work well as a game addon. A monthly $3 fee after the first month (or some adjusted value based on how often the game is played) would keep the service going. It's win-win.

Wow. 4 pages and no one's brought thjis up.
Elvis and Vegas didn't become associated until the 60's and 70's. Viva Las Vegas was filmed in 1963. The Kings are really pushing the limits of the game's theme.
