Why no Elvis ?

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 7:08 pm

We have the kings, so we know Elvis is popular, but why havent I heared any Elvis songs on the radio ? Why arent they in the game, I mean we have crap like Johnyy guitar, but no viva las vegas or anything, even though we have the kings, proving Elvis was popular, so yeah why did obsidian not put his music in, will we ever see more music added ?

I think it's because they never found any of his music.

You talk to the Kings and they don't even know Elvis.
All they know is people supported him and everything.

My guess would be noone has found any of his music to play it on the radio.

And they probably did it that way for legal reasons.

Legal/licensing issues?

:( Shame, it would have done his music a load of good, fallout 3 exposed alot of people to new music they hadnt heared, I bet it was good for the artist to have a new generation introduced.

I am sure they could have found his music, they had holotapes of how to be like him, to speak like him, if he has that he is obviously popular and ha been recorded, if hes that popular his music should be everywhere.
Sadly didnt think about the legal issues, shame it would have been great.

It's not so much legal as it is licensing, EP Enterprises charges VERY steeply for the privelege to use an Elvis Song. The Kings DID have holotapes of Elvis singing though, but The King explains that they stopped working a few years back, so they sold the them to a trader.

I know that, but I bet house could easily get them working again, especially when Mr New vegas works for house, it wouldnt be a stretch to have Elvis on the radio.

Would be awesome for a future DLC to come across that traider and he/she gives you the taps thinking they are junk but thanks to are pipboy we can get some music from them. Even if its only small bits.

It's copyrighted music, so I don't think it can be distributed via the Nexus or something.

It's undoubtedly the costs of licensing his music, because when you have a gang of Elvis impersonators, and you're talking about Las Vegas, you can't leave out Elvis, IMO.

I think there is already mods that allow you to put your own MP3s into a radio station, so you can add Elvis yourself, if you want to. Hell, you may not even need a mod. Just take a 'Hound Dog' MP3 and rename it to MUS_Johnny_Guitar.mp3 and stick it into the proper folder and you've solved two birds with one stone. :whistling:

Pretty sure what you're suggesting is illegal, and you're worried more about angry posters who cant rename a file?

Licensing issues. They said it would be more money licensing one Elvis song than all of the current songs.

I didn't say upload anything. What you do on your own computer with your own music that you presumably purchased legally is your business. You do know that you can get music for personal use legally, right?

True, but I think it's like importing Oblivion horses into a Fallout game, you can do it all you want, you just cant discuss it. Don't ask, Don't tell.

(Nope, I don't care much for politics, I keep to my own little world. I care about progress and reality, not petty political banter)

Don't blame Elvis, blame the guys running EP Enterprises, they are the very definition of 'Souless corporation' Which is a shame since I've grown up on Elvis. :sadvaultboy:

There is an in-game issue here and an out-of-game issue.

The out-of-game answer has been pretty well covered: The people who published the game couldn't afford Elvis recordings.

The in-game answer -- about old holotapes no longer working -- may be unsatisfactory to the canon-guarding purist in you, but that's the best that was ever offered. Try not to let it wreck your suspension of disbelief.

It is kind of strange that they didn't include horses in NV though, given it's otherwise western feel. I'd name my horse Elvis. Which brings us back to the title of the thread ... why no Elvis?

I’ve done this. There’s a mod (R.A.C.E.) which allows you to put 250 new songs in. I’ve loaded up the Sinatra and Elvis, among others, to give the radion more of the feel I think it should have. And I can’t imagine there’s anything illegal about, as it is playing my music, on my computer, shared in no way.

Also: from the way a few of the Kings dress, they’ve at lease seen a poster of Elvis’ Jailhouse Rock, if not heard it.
