Why hasn't Twilight Sparkle been fired ?

American news is awful no matter who's on... apart from Jon Stewert and Colbert obviously. Gimme Paxman anyday.
Agreed, it's pretty sad when people find Comedians better at News than 'professionals'.

this article matches my opinion
http://www.bettyconfidential.com/hpc/1289604/larry-doyle/celebritybabyscoop.com/2012/03/23/jennifer-garner-seraphina-a-pretty-pair?fb_xd_fragment&source=1502

so... why hasn't she been fired years ago?

ps - I always change channel to anything else if she is on
Ratings. Have you heard all the calls she gets from the lonely gossiping house wives that look up to her?

There are far worse News People out there then Grace.

a few, maybe - I can think of only one - I forget his name - but he has white hair, is a little chunky, and is very abrasive and ALWAYS interrupts his victim (interviewee) - Mathews something ?

edit : after reading newer posts, add O'Rielly to my list, although to be fair, he is much less horrible than Grace

And I wouldn't call either one a "new person"

She's far from my favorite person, but at a guess? That she's still on the network likely means that she's drawing in decent ratings for her show.

Besides - I find her an obvious exaggeration. I would have a hard time believing that neither her or the network she's on (Fox News, right?) were not fully aware of how she comes across and the sorts of reactions she's likely to get from her show. She's set up to be a polarizing figure. She hasn't been fired because she's doing exactly what she was hired to do.

I remember her from the days of Court TV (I used to be a bit of a junkie for that channel,) and while she was very opinionated even then - her on-air persona now is more of a caricature of her than anything.

Had to google her and it seems shes on CNN.

I usually just listen to NPR, BBC, or John Stuart/ Stephen Colbert.

TV is for entertainment, advertising, and propaganda. I don't feel like it's taken seriously as a medium for serious news and information anymore. As has been said, enough people must like her and/or find her entertaining. As long as people are watching she'll probably keep her job. There are few people in media today that are as crass and spread as much misinformation as Rush Limbaugh, and he's still going strong because people tune in for his radio show.

Chris Matthews? That man is incredibly mean to guests on his show. I just feel sorry for the people he interviews.

I don't see why they mentioned Pat Buchanan in that article, he's a nice guy. Anyways, this is free speech, you can say pretty much whatever you want, you might not agree with it, but fine. It's not like she's any better than Bill Maher or Chris Mathews.

That's why his show is called Hardball. If you don't come prepared to answer the tough quesions, you need to be prepared for a verbal lashing.

I no longer have cable (got tired of paying for somwthing I wasn't using) but when I did, I used to watch all those shows. from Glen beck to Hannity and Colmes, Nancy Grace, Bill Oreilly, Keith Olberman, Rachel Maddow, and Chris Matthews. While they are all opinionated to one degree or another (sometimes a bit fanatical) they all have one thing in common, and that's the need for ratings. The more outrageous their opinions and shows get, the more publicity they get, which in turn results in higher ratings. Why do you think Rush is so popular?

As a counterpoint to Nancy Grace, I'd like everyone to consider http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/. Lovely woman.

Compared to whom? If she's smug, then O'Reilly has to be off the charts.

If she is smug, so what? At least she halfway makes sense.

Who?

Maybe I'm the only one, but I have now clue who she is.
She one of those glammed up airheads that have no idea how real life works?
News anchor? Talk show host?
I only usually watch TV when something funny and/or nostalgic is on. Oh, and ponies.

Seriously, I don't like to be out of the know

The answer to the question was in the linked article anyway :

"She's not terribly bright, and she's contagious."

Like so much of that which makes money, I suppose.

Wikipedia on Maddow:

[S]he attended Stanford University... Maddow earned a degree in public policy from Stanford in 1994. At graduation she was awarded the John Gardner Fellowship. She was also the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship and began her postgraduate study in 1995 at Lincoln College, Oxford. In 2001, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in politics from Oxford University.

The woman knows how to think, so a little bit of smugness on her part re: the stupidity of politics doesn't seem that odd. I don't agree with her on everything, but I respect that she actually has a well-reasoned and -researched argument to make on whatever topic she decides to cover, unlike Nancy Grace, Rush Limbaugh, et al.

You can't fire a show host for what should amount to libel/defamation?

Free speech doesn't mean you can say whatever you want and be damned the consequences.

She's a character. She's doing what the network wants, and that's getting people fired up and talking about their shows. This thread, if I recall correctly, is talking about the show. Oddly, this thread is probably something they expected and even encourage.

Secondly, free speech does (almost) mean that you can say whatever you like and be damned the consequences. It's a lot harder to sue for defamation (television would be libel) than people think. First, she has to be flat wrong and proven so. Second, she has to have had reason to know she was wrong (hard to prove). Lastly, if she's talking about major public issues (usually the case), she also has to maliciously intend to do harm to the person she's talking about.

Add all that up, and it's very very hard to sue for defamation, at least in the US.

But the real point is that a lot of conservative, stay-at-home housewives really like her show. It's sad, but the crazies in America actually do have very big fan support.

I'd be more inclined to agree with him if much of what he said was based on any actual facts or knowledge. Really, though, whether I agreed with him or not I wouldn't like him. He's made a career out of getting people riled up over their (oftentimes petty) differences and playing on peoples' fears and prejudices. I don't see how that's good for anyone.

That said, no politics, so...

she hasn't been fired for the same reason the oxygen channel and the WE channel primarily consist of made for tv movies about how every one outside of the house is a home wreaker and out to steal your husband. unemployed house wives eat that [censored] up.

My opinion of Pacman plummeted when he interviewed Bill Gates. I was expecting Gates to be savaged in the manner we've come to expect, but instead the interview was restricted to incisive questions like "so, Bill, tell us how great you are." Someone had obviously really reined him in and it was quite painful to watch.

I don't like or support Nancy Grace in any shape or form, but there is a reason why HLN and CNN keep her around. She draws a large amount of attention/viewership and brings in the advertising dollars.

My favorite entertainment political personalities are Jon Stewart, Bill O'Reilly, and Greg Gutfeld.
